What are the kayfabe differences?.. because on screen there doesn't seem to be any. Off the top of my head I can't remember any cases of there being a gm and commissioner active at the same time, but if have been I'd imagine the gm being the boss.

Don't think there is a difference. They ended the Commissioner role with the brand split I believe. I guess they could eliminate all GMs and have one Commish for all shows if they wanted to.

Remember when Jack Tunney was the WWF President? It was basically the same deal.

So it's gone President -> Commissioner -> GM.

Piper took over for Jack Tunney in Kayfabe right? Or was it Monsoon? Or both at different times?

Then it was Slaughter as Commish, followed by Michaels, Foley, Regal and then it went to the GM system with Bisch and Steph...

right?

Yeah, pretty sure it went Tunney, Piper, Monsoon, Slaughter, Michaels, etc...

Different titles, same job. General Managers are usually for a team, rather than a league (which would have a commissioner), right? So maybe it's just to make the brands seem more separate.

Technically Vickie is the GM of Raw and Smackdown right no, right?

ECW doesn't have any storylines, but is rather just wrestling and fued based. Therefore I don't think they need a GM. Technically Teddy Long is, but he rarely shows up.

What I'm saying is, they should just make Vickie the WWE commissioner, and go from there. When she's done, make someone else the commish.
The shows are inter-meshed enough now that I think one GM/Commissioner for the whole company is enough.

RAW-related:

Vickie stepped down as SD GM and is now RAW-only.

Yeah, pretty sure it went Tunney, Piper, Monsoon, Slaughter, Michaels, etc...Wasn't Piper a temporary commissioner after they did the whole Vader attacking Monsoon angle.

Wasn't Piper commissioner during his feud with Goldust?
