View Full Version : Futurama Back In Production

Have you grown tired of bad TV news? And by bad TV news, I mean bad news about television shows. Bad "TV news" is redundant.

Well, get ready for some good news. No wait, get ready for some great news. No, great doesn't really describe it. Here is some grantasticularly wondergasmiclicious news! (And my 12th grade English teacher said I'd never amount to anything as a writer.)

Comedy Central has ordered all brand new episodes of Futurama, and the show has officially gone back into production.

An insider told Collider.com that the network has given the series an order for 13 additional episodes to air now that the network has run through all of the series' original episodes and the four full-length DVD movies. This news has sparked rumors that production has officially started again on the series and casting is underway.

It's not just good news for Futurama fans, even though the fans are slipping into grinning comas and twitching with joy over the news. And who can blame them? It's one of the few comedy series that just seems to get better and better the longer its run gets. It's the bizarro According to Jim.

It's also good news to every show that has been cancelled before its time. Matt Groening, David X. Cohen and company have proved that no show can truly die just because a single-minded network doesn't have the patience to let it develop and expand. Their dedication to the show and its fans is truly astounding, and if new episodes do make it to Comedy Central's doorstep, disappointed fanboys across the universe will have one less thing in life to be disappointed about.

That is the stupidest generalization I have ever heard. Shows like Futurama, Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy.. etc.. they all target the SAME demographic. The fact that you're insulting people who watch Futurama is laughable, because those same people probably watch King of the Hill too. What does that say about you if you and a bunch of douchebags find the same thing to be funny?

Gertner
06-09-2009, 05:25 PM
Futurama is nerd comedy. It's a niche audience. King of the Hill, Simpsons and Family Guy, totally different.

Requiem
06-09-2009, 05:27 PM
What? Not at all. How is it a nerd comedy? Because it's sci-fi instead of present day? Since when do you have to be a nerd to enjoy sci-fi?

Edit: No.. just no, I mean come on you are reaching here. The style of comedy used in Futurama is no different than the other shows.

Family Guy is in your face, shock humor. That and played out references to pop culture absurdity, like David Hasseloff and Gary Oldman beating up Hitler, or something ridiculous.

If some people want to laugh at that, fine. I don't really think it's skillfull or entertaining humor.
I prefer the wit and subtleties of The Simpsons (seasons 3-9)

Family Guy can't hold a candle to that. Also, King of the Hill isn't a favorite show of mine, but I respect it's humor.
It's subtle and smart.

I feel like the majority of Family Guy's jokes are geared to the meathead americans who prefer their humor to be direct and mindless, as a result of IQs that match their shoe size.
Even The Simpsons have been guilty of pandering to this in recent years with Homer Simpson.
It's a sad state of affairs when the average viewer would rather see a character make a fat joke, or fall on their face, than laugh at the hilarious musings of the Van Houten family.

'Futurama' getting new voices for Fry, Leela, Bender, and others

Jul 17, 2009, 03:17 PM | by Margaret Lyons

Just when I was getting really excited for the revived Futurama, total bummer news emerges: The voice actors are going to be different. Who's going to Zoid my Zoidberg?

Twentieth Century Fox, which is still producing the series even though new episodes will air on Comedy Central, is recasting the major voice roles for the show. That means no more Billy West (Fry, Professor, and Ziodberg), Katey Sagal (Leela), John DiMaggio (Bender), Maurice LaMarche (Kif Kroker, among others), or Tress MacNeil (Mom, and several others). Worst!

Fox released a statement saying "We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."

Horrible.

I can't imagine the cast were after a lot of money, I suspect it's more to do with Fox being cheap.

I highly doubt that.

I don't think the voice cast would demand loads of money for doing the voices. Like The Destroyer said, I think it's just Fox wanting to be cheap. I'm going to watch the first episode with the new cast just to see what it's like. I'm sure I'll hate it though, and if so, I won't watch any of the new episodes.

Futurama was the best thing going for Groening at the moment, with The Simpsons losing there magic a long time ago, Futurama was probably all that he had left. Now, because of Fox, it looks like Groening is screwed.

This news is terrible.

The new episodes/films they made weren't great to be honest, and a new series was slightly worrying.

With new voices for the characters, it's gonna be worse.

To be honest, they would be better off creating new characters and doing something that's more of a spin off set in the same world than attempt to keep everything the same. At least that way old characters could make cameos.

I've already said this will suck now, and I stand by that. The voice work is one of the best aspects of Futurama. I could handle Katey Sagal leaving, as her voice is easily replicated, but they'll never in a million years get anyone half as good as Billy West, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille an Maurice LaMarche.
