I recently stumbled upon this website, flickchart.com and I am absolutely addicted.

The premise is simple, you are presented the option of two movies and you decide which one you like better. If you havent seen one, click that you haven't. If you haven't seen either, click that button.

Over time it creates a ranking system that tells you your top 20 films of all time and beyond, ranking everything you've seen. It also tells you which movies rank where globally.

It's still beta testing so there are some movies missing and it runs slow, but it's so much fun to me.

Currently, it is an invitation only service until its officially released, but here is a link to autmoatically join: http://www.flickchart.com/Splash.aspx?i=9CE35639-A03C-4F82-87EC-5B1D140A9D29

I've currently found myself picking stuff that is critically not as good over some reknowned movies based on pure enjoyment factor. I love the first two Godfather movies and all, but Lucky Number Slevin is a hell of a lot more fun.

My username is MitchFoist, if you wanna add me.

Been doing this for awhile now. Surprised at some of the choices I am making and at some of the matches that I have to stop and really think about.

It takes a long time for the list to fill out like you would imagine it would. I had a pretty shitty number one for a long time because it never went against any other movie. I am thedricamndest.

Some really tough choices come up

Jeritron

like Eyes Wide Shut vs The Fugitive.

There's a matchup I never in a million years would have thought I'd have to answer. Neither are neccesarily one of my favorite movies of all-time, but they're both amazing and I honestly don't know which one is I feel is "better"

Yeah, it sucks when you get a really hard out of genre match like that. It also sucks when you get a string of matches like "Scarface v. Broken Arrow".

Starting to get my list to where I want it to be. Kinda sucks that their database of movies is so small though.

I don't know how many times this thing has asked me about Mel Gibson's The Patriot. That must be the baseline for good or bad movies.

Breakfast Club vs Star Trek is one that just threw me for a loop. Just an odd matchup. One's brand new that I loved. One's as old as me that I enjoy watching whenever it's on.
Dunno if one has been out long enough to know.
See, this shit really can be confusing. Sometimes there are shades of grey

lol yea. It's asked me like 50 times. I feel like they're using that and The Dark Knight to see where everything else falls in between

The Aviator is my current favorite movie. It was pretty good.

Yea, The Dark Knight is mine but it isn't in real life. Also, I've come across some of the movies I like more than it already, just not against it. It's just that my favorites haven't started squaring off.

I imagine it will take a long time before this list begins to resemble the rough list in my mind, if at all

This has been a great way to remind me of forgotten gems like Dark City or The Fountain. I forgot how much I liked that movie. I'm up to near 400 movies and so far my top 20 is shaping up to look kind of like a list of movies I might rattle off to someone to go see (in no particular order). There are a few odd movies in there that snuck in from early rounds that I'm kind of ashamed to have in there.

No Country for Old Men vs The Wrestler.

I wish you could vote "draw"

This was horribly tough. I sat until I had picked 500 different movies I have seen and rated over and over and over until I got a decent top 20 list. It' s by no means perfect and some of the favies are out of place or not around at all..but here is a general list:

Your Top 20
1.American Beauty
2.The Shawshank Redemption
3.Reservoir Dogs
4.Stand by Me
5.Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
6.The Dark Knight
7.Eternal Sunshine
8.Star Wars: Episode 3
9.Remember the Titans
10.Apollo 13
11.Shaun of the Dead
12.Forrest Gump
13.Halloween
14.Night of the Living Dead
15.Resident Evil
16.Finding Nemo
17.The Simpsons Movie
18.What's Eating Gilbert Great
19.The Nightmare Before Christmas
20.Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
