View Full Version : Favorite Luchador from mid 90's WCW?

I was looking at some random WCW matches from the mid 90's and who was your favorite luchador from that time? I remember Lizmark jr use to chokeslam other crusierweights (first time seeing someone other than a 7 footer doing it), Super Calo had some great matches against guys like Ciclope and Damian 666 on Saturday Nights, but my favorite luchador from that time period had to be La Parka.

La Parka was my fav, followed by Psicosis.

Rey and Juvi were my favorites. Out of 15 replies only 2 mentioned Rey. Come on. I know TPWW doesn't like him right now, but I'm sure a lot of you loved him until he took his mask off.

Didn't Super Calo do a Super Victory Roll from the top rope? Pretty sure he did. That plus wrestling in sunglasses made him pretty bad ass.

He wrestles with his sunglasses on because the sun never sets on being a badass.

I liked Rey, Psychosis, and Juvi. I started to get big on Blitzkrieg, but he wasn't on enough for me to get behind him.

The Chairman of WCW ......... La Parka.

If it was any cruiserwieght then Jericho, Ultimo Dragon, Eddie Guerrero (WWE era more than WCW era), and Jushin Liger would be my other choices but topic only wants WCW Luchadors.

On a technicality yes, but by the time he was in WCW he had already adjusted his style to be more mat based with minimal air time.

I was definitely a huge Rey Misterio Jr. mark. I'm also happy to see all the Super Calo love in here, because I thought he was great. Loved his theme song too. Juvented was the man for his 450 splash. Psychosis was pretty sick. Those were probably my favorites.

Silver King and El Dandy looked like a couple of fucking dorks, so I loved them, naturally. The Villanos looked like dorks, and I thought they WERE dorks, so I wasn't really feeling them.' Ciclope was odd. La Parka was OK....overall, a great time to be a WCW fan, though.

La Parka was sorta funny with the dancing and the chairs, but I never saw him as a real threat to anyone.

There is no other answer, his dance is timeless also he was the biggest cruiserweight yet he still could perform a lot of high risk maneuvers.

Lucha Libre isn't simply about "high flying" tho. It's also about rapid catch as catch can wrestling. Mat based wrestling is a big part of it too. There are a ton of luchadores(some even mentioned in this thread) that don't leave the ground that often.

And even in wcw, he still did his asai moonsault in just about every match, so that part of it was still in his game as well.

Mid-90's has to be Rey Mysterio or Dean Malenko for me, but 1998 was Billy Kidman all the way, he was a franchise player. I hate how WWE makes it like Rey, Kidman, Benoit, Malenko, Jericho and other stars weren't being pushed. Just because you're not the champion doesn't mean you aren't getting pushed. I know Benoit won it in 2000 for a day, but the rest of these guys were a major part of WCW. My favorite is on the Monday Night Wars DVD where he says you have all this talent and you're not doing anything with it. Then he says I mean look at the WWE you have Edge, Christian, The Hardyz. At that time they were in tag team status. They weren't at the top at that time. Rey was being pushed just as much as E&C and the Hardy Boyz at the time. He had a World Heavyweight Title shot against Ric Flair on an episode of Nitro in 1999 and they almost had him win.
