Jericho makes offensive comments towards Middle Easterners and Gays - TMZ is there with the video (http://www.tmz.com/2009/11/05/chris-jericho-wee-racial-slurs-wrestling-statement/)

Jericho was at the Sacramento Horror Film Festival two weeks ago ... for a screening of a movie in which he appears. During a Q&A session, Jericho referred to the moderator several times as "Hadji" -- a term sometimes used as a racial slur against Middle Easterners.

After the first wave of slurs -- and a random shot at Paris Hilton -- the host jokingly takes Jericho's drink to sniff it for booze, when Chris chimes back, "it's apple juice ... fag."

Jericho tells TMZ, "After seeing the video I realize some inappropriate comments were made and I apologize if I offended anybody." Jericho continues, "Just know that everyone on stage was having a blast and we all shared a drink and a laugh after! The good news (http://www.tmz.com/2009/11/05/chris-jericho-wee-racial-slurs-wrestling-statement/#) is I got my wish of being posted on TMZ."
The video is kinda funny..its Jericho for crying out loud.

Political correctness bullshit. Jericho was just trying to show some personality at a Q&A session. He should have known it would come back and bite him on the ass, but I'm sure Jericho didn't mean any genuine offense by it.

He shouldn't have used the word "fag" like that, he should have known people like GLAAD would get offended. People like the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation never take context into consideration. All they think is that saying "fag" in such an off-handed way makes it easier to say in a hateful way for others. It would be like him calling the guy "nigger" or "kike" either of those would be offensive, and as a public figure Chris Jericho should know better.

That all being said I'm sure Chris Jericho is not a homophobe or a biggot. The context of his words make it fairly obvious that he was just joking and being playful.

Like someone else said, stand-up comedians and just people in general say stuff like that all the time in the same joking manner as Jericho did with no backlash. There's no reason he should be held to a higher regard.

I mean... there's no reason people should get so offended anyway but that's a different story.

Most comedians are less know then Chris Jericho.

That being said name me one comedian, as famous or more than Chris Jericho, in the last 10 years that called someone a fag (not that the word fag was in their act, but actually called someone a fag) and didn't get backlash from the media for it?

I know the sensetivity to words is a little silly at times but words do have power and the word fag being said by non-Gays is hateful at times.

Yes but that's why I qualified 10 years, things have gotten very serious about slandering gays (not saying anyone is slandering gays) over the past 10 years. Back in the mid-80's making gay jokes was far more accepted.

Funny thing is, if Jericho called Paris Hilton "a dirty camel jockey cock fucker", TMZ would still be throwing donuts at Khloe Kardashian today trying to get a headline story.

Noone would have cared.

It's not about whether you appreciate such jokes or not. I don't need to appreciate what he said as a joke to know the fact that people throwing a huge fit over it is fucking ridiculous.
