Al Snow is the better wrestler, he is an accomplished wrestler and trained other people on national television how to wrestle. Mick Foley does not know a wrist lock from a wrist watch. Name one actual wrestling move that Foley has ever done that even looked decent. This poll is "better wrestler" so I voted Al Snow. If it was "better entertainer", I would vote Foley, easily, but we are talking wrestler not entertainer and Mick Foley is not an accomplished wrestler or even a good wrestler.

Even Foley said himself "I don't have alot of room in my life for pain, its just that I can absorb more than most people and that has made me marketable." He is admitting that he is a stunt guy. Watch Beyond the Mat.

How is Foley not an accomplished wrestler? Foley has always been humble, he's not going to deny that a big part of his accomplishments are his pain endurance, but he's also not going to admit that he's a talented wrestler.

Name 5 great Mick Foley matches, and 5 great Al Snow matches. We'll see what happens.

No, CWK. Respond to my post. Avoiding it will not be acceptable.

I view the term wrestler as one who knows holds and can execute them very well as in a Chris Benoit or a Bret Hart. Guys who can have a wrestling match. I don't view Foley as a wrestler at all. If the name of the poll was "better performer" I would be more likely to vote Foley in many cases because performer to me is not just limited to wrestling, its comedy, drama, microphone work and just overall entertainment.

Do I think Foley is a better "performer" than Vader? Hell yes.

Do I think Foley is a better "wrestler" than Vader? Absolutely not.

Foley was just in the right place at the right time in the attitude era where his particular style shined. Justifying this would be flashing back to the early 90's when Foley and Vader both wrestled in WCW. Vader was the champ, a believeable one and was headlining PPV's with Flair and Sting. Yes Vader and Foley feuded in WCW, but Vader clearly shined by ripping Foley's ear off and powerbombing him on concrete. I know I have got to be making some sense here.

CWK, what about this aren't you getting? "Better Wrestler" is nothing more than a title for the thread. Your vote can be based on ANY criteria you'd like. You can call it "Better Professional Wrestler" if you'd like to drive home that this is evaluating them overall as performers and not just specific aspects of their game (ie: Their actual "wrestling" or in-ring skills)

It has been said many times that there is no specific criteria for voting. I'll say it again. There is no specific criteria for voting. Stop making me hate myself for being a wrestling fan, please.

Ok I was wrong, Vader threw Foley into the ropes, his head got caught between the top two ropes and severed his ear.

Supreme Olajuwon
11-16-2009, 12:50 AM
CWK, the story is Foley was supposed to a hangman spot where he gets his head trapped in the ropes. That requires the ring ropes to be looser than normal. Unknown by Foley and Vader, the ring crew had tightened the ropes before the show so they were too tight. Foley still did the spot and tore his ear off trying to get free.

CWK

What happened to his ear?
March 16, 1994: Munich, Germany. In a match against the WCW champ, Big Van Vader, Cactus Jack gets his head tied up between the top and middle ring ropes. Accidentally, Cactus slipped out of the ropes. The tension in the tightened ring ropes was enough to tear his right ear completely off and badly tear his left ear. Part of the right ear was iced and saved. The left required 12 stitches. He continued the match for two more minutes before the planned ending (he lost by pinfall). Vader punched Cactus many times in the side of his head, until his ear just fell off. The referee picked the ear up and gave it to a ring attendant. Cactus was in good spirits afterwards with little damage to his hearing and some trouble with his balance. Cactus returned to the ring April 17, 1994. Reports were that Cactus was planning to take a few months time off to have reconstructive surgery on the ear, but it never happened. To date, he has shown no hearing problems or other ill effects. Only one other wrestler has had their ear ripped off in a match (Yukon Eric against Killer Kowalski). In an ECW interview, Cactus said he woke up in a hospital bed in Munich, German and saw his severed ear laying in a trashcan, while a nurse said "Is this a joke?" Sorry, it really happened. Here's a picture. The entire incident is available on videotape

Narcissus

Mick Foley lost his ear to the famous wrestling rope trick known as the "hang man" if I'm not mistaken. Too Cold Scorpio had complained about the ropes being too loose earlier in the night so they tightened them. When Foley went for the hangman (Where your head is stuck between the two ropes to make it look like you're actually hanging) the tightness of the ropes almost popped his fucking head off. He kept his head but lost an ear.

considering that it was a planned spot that was a mick foley signature so it was probably his idea, you could put the blame on him. or on the ring crew for tightening the ropes too tight. but vader is really the last person involved to be able to "take credit" for it.

Al Snow is a great wrestler and a pretty good talker. The reason he didn't make it into the main event and Foley did was because of his gimmick. It's the kind of thing that got people interested in somebody, but you knew he was never going to be a serious threat to the WWF Championship. Foley had the better gimmick(s), was a better talker, and took bumps that Snow didn't. That is why he was able to evolve as much as he did.
