I had to base my decision on what they made out of their career and Sting was more successful. Everywhere else they are a great match!

Supreme Olajuwon
01-26-2010, 05:50 PM
That's not really fair though. If Sting did make more out of his career (debatable), it's only because he was constantly pushed as the babyface hero. And he was always pushed as the babyface because he couldn't play a heel to save his life. Savage was ungodly good as a heel, but that meant he had to lose a lot of his feuds to put the babyfaces over.

The Franchise
01-26-2010, 05:56 PM
It's debatable who was more successful. Savage was insanely successful and made a shit ton of money, won close to as many World Title's as Sting and was voted #9 all-time by PWI or WON and Sting was #15 for best wrestler's or whatever.

The Franchise
01-26-2010, 06:01 PM
Other than Hogan, Stone Cold, The Rock and probably Flair who's a "bigger star" or "more successful" than Macho Man Randy Savage of the 80s? I dont think Sting could make that claim no matter how big he was in WCW. Savage was RIDICULOUS huge.

Dante69

^ REASON TO VOTE STING.

Apparently going off the deep end means he never had anything to offer in his entire career? Kind of ridiculous. Savage is in my #1 favorite wrestler of all time. I don't even know where to begin here...

I'll say this. Buy the Savage DVD and watch his very first match in a WWF ring against Rick McGraw. Most of the people in the arena (Unless they were AWA fans) had never heard of Savage before and from the very get go, Randy worked these people into an absolute fucking frenzy. He got them to absolutely want to tear his face off within the first 5 minutes of the match by using only facial expressions and body language. It was apparent in his very first match that he was one of the most gifted and charismatic wrestlers ever to step foot in the WWF at the time.

I like Sting and think Sting is a great performer but to compare him to Randy Savage... There's no way. Anybody who votes for Sting here either never got to see Savage in his prime or just has some sort of bias towards Sting. I don't really think an argument could be made that Sting was a better overall professional wrestler than Savage. Savage had everything.

Sting I have pretty much always enjoyed. I enjoy him still to this very day. He is past his prime, but I still enjoy seeing him and his matches.

Randy Savage I LOVED during his prime... but in his later days in WCW, when he was past his prime, I did not enjoy him.

Still, I kind of hate voting against Randy Savage.

Going with Savage.

On both careers overall it's very close. Both were draws in different eras, both were main eventing during the height of WWF in the 80's (Savage) and the height of WCW in the late 90's (Sting). Work rate wise, both a ton of great matches throughout thier careers. Savage edges out Sting in the promo department. Charisma wise, it's a tie.

One major win for Savage is Sting sucked as a heel. He could never pull it off. Savage was an awesome heel and an awesome babyface. Also, like someone mentioned I saw Savage as the HBK of the 80's. He really was the MVP of so many Mania's in a row.

Bottom line, Macho Man Randy Savage

Macho Man.

Besides the final few years in WCW, Macho Man was a good character in both WWF and WCW. His feud with Hogan over Miss Elizabeth was one of the best feuds he had in the WWF even if later in life he really began to get paranoid over Elizabeth.

Macho Man played the face and heel character pretty well while Sting is more known for his face and "tweener" character with the Crow version.

Phenomenal 1
01-29-2010, 05:08 PM
No suprise here that Macho Man won this....While both Savage and Sting were great performers, I think what made the miss of the boat here was the lack of national exposure for WCW vs the mainstream exposure of WWF/WWE in the late 1980's and the early 1990's. While Sting is a legend and a phenomenon in wrestling in his own right...Savage was a more established and well known name by the time mainstream exposure came to wrestling fans to discover who Sting was.
