Returning Pokémon

If you haven’t played the last game or the one before that, you may be left wondering something like, "Why isn’t this Pokémon or that Pokémon in the game?" All I’ve been introducing are the ones new to this game.

So now I’d like to introduce several of the Pokémon that appeared in past instalments that will be appearing again in Brawl.

The likelihood of mysterious Pokémon appearing is quite low. Mew and Celebi are especially rare, but they may leave you some kind of present.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...07_071204k.jpg
Mew dropped a CD. Accept it with gratitude!

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2007 02:40 AM

Holy crap, I have never, EVER seen Celebi...

Extreme Angle 12-04-2007 02:56 AM

I saw all of them excep mew, whats that cd do?

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2007 02:59 AM

I've seen Mew twice I think.

And the CD unlocks new music for stages.

Drakul 12-04-2007 03:00 AM

Mew was pretty common for me in Melee. Can't recall the Celebi thing though.

Funky Fly 12-04-2007 03:15 AM

I have seen Mew 4567548765 times. Only seen Celebi like 5 times maybe.

But then Smash Bros Melee is by far the most played game when my brothers and I are together. No other game has ever taken as many hours of my life as this one.

MTH15 12-04-2007 07:32 AM

Lol. I havn't seen Celebi a lot, Ho oH as well

Loose Cannon 12-04-2007 08:06 AM

yea, you must of been blind or played the game three times if you've never seen Mew

MTH15 12-04-2007 11:59 PM

Lol. Im wasting my money on a Wii just so that I can buy this game....Im using the original Gamecube controller though.

The Battle for the Smash Ball

A Smash Ball appears! The tension rises. Since it gives you an attack as powerful as the name Final Smash implies, everyone will battle frantically to get it.

You can’t get the Smash Ball by simply touching it. You have to bash it and smash it many times until the player who breaks the Smash Ball gets it.

The Smash Ball’s endurance diminishes with each hit and with time.

Once a character gets it and begins glowing on standby, he or she just does a standard special move to unleash the Final Smash. Just press the B Button without any directional input.

It depends on the particular Final Smash, but simply pressing the button at a random time or place might not work to your advantage.

So pick a position that your move will strike from. Or create conditions under which you will definitely hit your foes. Do all of this while glowing on standby.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205e.jpg
Now just jump up and fire off that Final Smash!

However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205f.jpg
Even if someone gets it,
attack is often the best form of defence!

Do you use it as soon as you get it? Or save it for later? Do you run from an enemy who got it? Or do you chase him? You’ll need some instantaneous situational decision-making!

And then there’s an element known as the Pity Final Smash. Once a significant point advantage is reached, the losing player is given a bonus chance. When you get this, you will reappear after a KO in Final Smash standby mode.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205g.jpg
It’s OK to give this out, isn’t it?

Now, if you don’t want to use Final Smashes whatsoever, you can restrict the appearance of this item in the Item Switch. If you just turn Smash Balls off, you’ll be set.

The game-changing Final Smash. Using it is fun. Running from it is fun, too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other update today was music from a game called X which only came out in Japan.

MTH15 12-05-2007 07:30 AM

Final Smash should make it interesing

King Dedede: Final Smash

Waddle Dee Army

King Dedede’s Final Smash is a mountain of Waddle Dees called the Waddle Dee Army!

Hmm. I guess it’s in his character to leave the work to someone else.

You can’t tell from a picture, but the speed of these Waddle Dees is quite a bit faster than the ones he normally calls. You’ll need to watch out to make sure you don’t suddenly get swept off the screen.

But the most dangerous thing of all is that the spike-headed Gordos are also mixed into the crowd.

Shadow 12-06-2007 11:59 PM

...daaaaamn.

Extreme Angle 12-07-2007 12:19 AM

Na I played the shite out of it, got mr game and watch and all those and still play up my cousins, I saw celebi millions of times but can't recall mew once

With Anyone/Basic Brawl

Join a quick and simple brawl against someone, somewhere! If you’re not going to be playing with a friend, this is the mode you’ll tend to use.

This time, we’ll take a look at how it flows.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207a.jpg
The Wii console is trying to connect in earnest! And it succeeds!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207c.jpg
You could also choose Team Battle,
but we’ll choose Basic Brawl here.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207d.jpg
You go straight to the character selection screen.

Huh? We’re already at character selection? That’s right. You don’t make any rooms.

At this point, you’re already requesting a match. If you connect to someone, you’ll see their status at the bottom of the screen.

Character selection is limited to 45 seconds. If time runs out, your character will be chosen for you at random, so make your choices quickly so as not to make others wait.

You can cast one vote for the stage you want to play. A stage is chosen by lottery from among those voted on by the players.

Also, the items that are turned off in the item switch are also determined by lottery.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207f.jpg
Practise on Sandbag while you wait...

Then just wait until you get everyone together.

Isn’t that simple? You don’t have to bother with any settings. You just choose characters and stages.

Names won’t be shown and messages won’t be sent. Neither your identity nor your opponents’ will be known, so you can play without any worries.

By the way, have you ever had an experience where your opponent was disconnected and the match never came to fruition? Like when you started with four players, but ended up with only one?

I don’t like that feeling, so I’ve tried to counter it.

If you get cut off, your character will get taken over by the CPU without your opponents even knowing – it pinch hits for you!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207h.jpg
Hold on! You can’t tell it’s a CPU!

That’s epic! Can we really do this? Wouldn’t you say it’s way better than having all your opponents drop out?

However, we won’t be swapping in CPU characters when you’re playing With Friends. Sorry about that.

And there is one more important thing...

When you have a battle mode that runs online like Basic Brawl, the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises. If one of your opponents chooses a character you haven’t unlocked yet, it will be spoiled for you immediately.

But even without this mode, given the proliferation of the Internet these days, the existence of hidden characters is going to get exposed anyway.

So, this time I’m moving in the direction of not being too hung up on hidden characters.

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.

And as the case has always been, I’ve made it so you can play the characters you unlock in battles.

Vietnamese Crippler 12-07-2007 02:21 AM

Yeah, we definitely need to set up our own league for this :o

Drakul 12-07-2007 02:27 AM

A TPWW SSBB League would be great but the European & Austrelian members wont be involved for a while. Nintendo has said SSBB wont get a PAL release until sometime after June 2008. So July at the earliest.

Vietnamese Crippler 12-07-2007 02:34 AM

Like we North Americans need you guys :shifty:

Drakul 12-07-2007 02:40 AM

Of course you need us. Who else can you brawl and annoy by assigning "USA! USA!" to every single taunt?

Funky Fly 12-07-2007 03:03 AM

Sexy time.

MTH15 12-07-2007 04:10 AM

Lol. Yea Im sure we can set that up. And post pics and vids and shit. This is gonna be awsome

Drakul 12-10-2007 02:04 AM

Bonsly

Why is this Pokémon named Bonsly? Those familiar with the world of Pokémon understand that while it appears to be a bonsai tree, Bonsly’s body is made up of rocks and stones.

Even if an opponent’s damage meter is below 50%, this thing packs enough power to potentially knock him or her off.

You may only get hit once in a while, but if you do, watch out!!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...08_071210f.jpg
Oh, and it’s not like it can’t be reflected.

MTH15 12-10-2007 02:51 AM

wtf IS THAT?

Vietnamese Crippler 12-10-2007 03:22 AM

It's a walking bonsai tree, what else :o

Rotation

Picture five or more players huddled around a Wii.

The number of people who can play is limited by the number of controllers that can connect. When that happens, you usually have the people who win or lose rotate out so that everyone gets a turn, right?

So be nice and give everybody a chance to play!

... ...That’s how I feel anyway, but just in case you need a little help being nice (and since everyone has their own controller preferences), I went ahead and rigged up a Rotation mode.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211a.jpg
This is the top menu for Group mode!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211b.jpg
First decide the number of controllers.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211c.jpg
Then get a count of people in the room with you
and enter that in.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211d.jpg
How many people per brawl?

You can set the rules to rotate out a set number of winners or losers from the brawl. Rotation doesn’t have to be about coming in first place.

If your group is on pretty equal footing with each other, go for Loser Swaps Out. If you’ve got some green players in your midst, why not start out with Winner Swaps Out?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211e.jpg
It’s always useful to log your name.

But, hey, if it’s too much of a bother for you, you can play fine without it. Just as long as you remember your guest number, that is.

If a new player happens to come by during a Rotation match, you can add him or her to the group if you’re willing to head back to the name-entry screen.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211f.jpg
When your name comes up, press a button to confirm.

Press a button on the controller of your choice when your name pops up. That sets the controller you’ll use.

And of course, your control settings will be applied when you play.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...17_071211g.jpg
Need a bathroom break? Opt to sit out a match!

Even with numerous controllers and dozens of people lined up to play, you’ll be good to go if you use this mode!

... ... Well, not quite.

Rotation is limited to 16 players. Mm hmm.

Vietnamese Crippler 12-11-2007 02:33 AM

Ok... Don't think I'll ever have to use that mode, but ok :-\

Drakul 12-11-2007 02:36 AM

Same here.
I'm guessing these are filler updates because of the delay.

Vietnamese Crippler 12-11-2007 03:10 AM

Sucks knowing that instead of studying for finals right now, I could've been playing BRAWL :foc:

Funky Fly 12-11-2007 05:57 AM

My nephews and nieces will certainly use that a lot. They always lose track and leads to fighting.
