ESPN is removing Jaws from MNF.. It will just be Tarico and Gruden starting next season..

RoXer 02-15-2012 06:03 PM

It should just be Nessler and Fouts, they're a much better combo.

RoXer 02-15-2012 06:03 PM

Something about Nessler's voice just seems appropriate for MNF. Has a "classic" tone to it or something, hard to describe.

OssMan 02-15-2012 07:12 PM

Madden and summerall

Evil Vito 02-15-2012 07:14 PM

Pretty sure removing Jaws just clinched the MNF team as being the worst in football. Not that Jaws was anything to write home about, but now Gruden can spout his bullshit unopposed.

I like Gruden.. i think the annoucing wont be as cluttered and Tarico as the straight man to Chucky's zaniness will work well..

For the record, if the change again, i think Mike and Mike would be perfect.. id hate to lose them in the mornings but i think they would be GOAT..

Supreme Olajuwon 02-15-2012 08:02 PM

I like Tirico and I like Gruden. So I'm good with this.

Gonzo 02-15-2012 08:22 PM

I think Tirico is very good. Gruden just says how great everyone is and how what he is watching is the greatest he's ever seen someone do it. He is tolerable. I like Jaws though. Either way, whatever.

Evil Vito 02-26-2012 07:53 PM

Manningham is going to the Bucs apparently. NFL is really weird in that teams can pretty much negotiate a contract with a player before the free agent period officially starts, at which point it's formally announced. That's why there's always a huge flurry of movement the second the free agent period opens.

Manningham had said in a radio interview yesterday that he was 75% sure he was gone because he wanted more money and wanted the ball to be thrown his way more. Then he added in that the Giants were unlikely to repeat and, while repeating in the NFL is extremely hard, it seemed like an unnecessarily dickish thing to say. Thanks for the great playoff run Mario, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Innovator 02-26-2012 07:54 PM

Vito, Giants have no cap room and Manningham is gonna demand a lot of money, let him go.

Evil Vito 02-26-2012 09:01 PM

No shit. I never expected him to be back, and don't want him back as he was always going to be paid more than he's worth. I'm just saying that going on the radio and saying "they aren't going to repeat anyway" is a low blow move on your way out the door. Totally unnecessary.

OssMan 02-26-2012 09:08 PM

Manningham will be the 2nd best receiver in the NFL

Naw, I think you're just being a bit bitter. Let it go, man. He's right, they probably won't repeat. I don't think it's that shitty of a thing to say.

Who knows though. Maybe they will repeat. And then they can rub it in his eye.

It just doesn't make sense to me. He's far from the first Giants player to take parting shots on his way out. I never got why it happens so frequently, you'd think you'd want to leave on good terms.

Going forward, I don't think the Giants will have much of a problem replacing him anyway. I've got a really good feeling about Jerrel Jernigan. Think he could be a real weapon in the slot, and the Giants have had a tendency to see an explosion in productivity from guys in their sophomore season.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-27-2012 03:35 AM

Since he's pretty much the reason they won the Superbowl with that amazing catch he's allowed to shit on the team if they decide they don't need him. He was also vastly underpaid along with all of their receivers. When the 8 mil a year QB is throwing to 500k receivers there is gonna be animosity.

Life is short in the NFL and he needs to get paid.

Evil Vito 02-27-2012 11:05 AM

Nobody is faulting him for cashing in. He should. Nicks and Cruz drawing the majority of the coverage allowed him to put together an excellent postseason, and now he'll get paid #1 receiver money for it. I sure as shit know I'd take it.

The Bucs play the Giants in Metlife this year. Mario would have gotten a huge ovation during intros. But now he's probably going to get booed because he talked shit on the way out. It's just unfortunate that it had to end that way.

Evil Vito 02-27-2012 11:14 AM

In an odd twist, apparently the odds for Peyton Manning going to the Chiefs have dropped from 50-1 to 3-1. :o

They show old Giants highlight packages before the games and the fans always seem to boo anytime they show somebody who has talked down to the team after leaving, even if it was a great moment in Giants history (Plax' SB42 TD catch, for example). Emperor Smeat 02-27-2012 09:13 PM

ESPN is reporting the Rams will be trading out of their #2 spot in the draft saying they are confident in staying with Sam Bradford as their QB.

So far the Browns (#4 pick), Redskins (#6 pick) and Dolphins (#8 pick) are in trade discussions with the Rams wanting at least something similar to what the Chargers did in 2004 involving their Eli Manning pick as a starter to any deal.

Skippord 02-27-2012 09:20 PM

is it weird that #'s 2, 4, 6, and 8 are all involved in the same trade discussion?

Evil Vito 02-27-2012 10:57 PM

I could see the Redskins or Dolphins moving up. Would be surprised if the Browns traded all that just to jump up 2 spots though. I'm sure they'd take RG3 if a trade doesn't get worked out and he's still on the board at #4 - but McCoy is still young. They are lacking in receiving weapons regardless of who their QB is.

If I'm the Browns, I stay put and if a trade happens and RG3 goes at #2, I take Blackmon at #4 (Matt Kalil to the Vikings at #3 is pretty much a given).

James Steele 02-29-2012 04:34 PM

Cowboys need to trade up and get Morris Claiborne.

Corndad 02-29-2012 08:04 PM

Steelers release Hines Ward. Figured would happen. To be that low on the WR depth chart he would be expected to play Special Teams and he just doesn't have it in him anymore.

Not to mention that Pittsburgh is gambling with Mike Wallace now too. Rather than tagging him, they're going to tender him. Yeah, you must really want him to finish his career there huh? I hope like hell that the Jags snatch him right from under their noses.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-02-2012 12:27 PM

The Jaguars should sign every wide receiver.

Hate when players celebrate prematurely like this.

You guys remember that one.

Gonzo 03-03-2012 01:17 AM

This scenario is a part of football too, things like this happen league wide and the Saints are hardly the first team to do it. I just happen to think that the Saints are going to get punished heavily for it because they were caught actually paying players for it and the league is trying to clean up its public image. John Clayton and others have said that the Saints' punishment is probably going to be worse than the one the Patriots got for Spygate.

Evil Vito 03-03-2012 01:44 AM

Gotta figure we're going to see a ton of rule changes this year based on how injuries are handled. Teams might be forced to shut players down for the year if they get multiple concussions or something. Also practices are probably going to be monitored.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-03-2012 01:45 AM

Since they got bonuses for guys getting carted off, I wonder how many times they gave someone a serious leg injury but they were helped off by trainers instead of getting loaded onto the cart.

Would be gutted in that situation.

Triple Naitch 03-03-2012 03:47 AM

How much for when a player fakes an injury?

Evil Vito 03-03-2012 11:02 AM

I'm interested in seeing if any suspensions come out of this in addition to whatever other penalties they hand out. Gregg Williams probably will be even though it would hurt the Rams, not the Saints.

Player punishments would be tricky to figure out because they were encouraged to make hard, but clean hits. Any punishment would be based not for what they did on the field, but for what they got paid as a result. If they have a record of how much everybody made, I'd guess the players would get fined that amount rather than being suspended.

Kris P Lettus 03-03-2012 01:05 PM

Its part of football.. Head hunting goes back to the dawn of time..

Just because the head hunting worked (e.g. Favre, Warner) made it bigger news than it should be..

I don't agree with trying to hurt other players but to have no incentives for performance is ridiculous.. In reading on this players cant even get bonuses for INTS, sacks, forced fumbles, etc..

That's pretty stupid..

Supreme Olajuwon 03-03-2012 01:18 PM

Hey guys I know this is football and we all act like a bunch of irrational mongoloids when our favorite team is involved, but intentionally trying to injure people in not a good thing.

Kris P Lettus 03-03-2012 01:20 PM

No paying bonuses to intentionally injury players is against everything Gooddell has tried to do..

This wouldn't even be a discussion if Tagliabou was still around..

Supreme Olajuwon 03-03-2012 01:27 PM

Well then it's probably a good thing Tabliabue isn't around anymore.

Kris P Lettus 03-03-2012 01:30 PM

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...ram-on-twitter

Supreme Olajuwon 03-03-2012 01:57 PM

I don't remember who said it, but someone had the idea that they should just take away players' equipment and have them play without pads. Would probably cut down injuries a ton seeing as how guys would stop launching themselves at each other thinking they're invincible wrecking balls.

I can't see anyone who was offered a sum to take out a player, would even second guess it. I am a Saint's fan and I think it WAS ridiculous the way they organized the bounty, but this has been going on in every football team for years.

Evil Vito 03-03-2012 04:23 PM

Speaking of the Saints, they officially franchise tagged Brees today because they couldn't come to terms on a long-term deal. So now Carl Nicks is going to go elsewhere and probably get one of the largest offensive lineman free agent contracts ever to boot.

Players can get incentives for play if it's included in their contract. If a system exists outside their contract with the team then that's when the NFL rules were violated.

SammyG when did you get a job in the front offices of the Rams? Good job bro. :y:

Crimson 03-03-2012 11:55 PM

I'd rather sign a CB thru free agency and draft another one in the late rounds. And draft a rush line backer or DeCastro in the 1st if we don't get Nicks. One can fall in love with speed positions but imagine just having a solid G that could make the O-line that much better, giving Romo more time and lanes for Murray.

Also Spencer hasn't lived up so another rushLB is in need..I dont know why Victor Butler doesn't play more he seems to make plays when he does.

RP 03-04-2012 02:26 AM

Wow!

Apparently the orgin of Mannings neck injury came from the Redskins game in 2006. And guess who was the defensive coordinator. And no coincidence, now the Redskins are being investigated.

I hope Greg Williams never coaches again. What a piece of shit.

RP 03-04-2012 02:28 AM

Ofcourse, he did get us Andrew Luck and potentially 20+ years of elite quarterback play. Maybe he's The ( piece of) Shit.

Blakeamus 03-04-2012 09:07 PM

Just love how deep this investigation is going...

McLegend 03-04-2012 09:12 PM

Yeah that hit on Manning was especially brutal. I also thought every hit on Favre in that NFC championship game was extremely brutal.

Emperor Smeat 03-04-2012 09:23 PM

Won't be surprised if other coaches/assistants get caught or eventually outed considering how strongly the NFL has been in regards to the concussion and other "dirty" hits issue. Even Spygate had other coaches admit they did similar tactics in the past.

Probably going to affect a lot of the hard hitting teams with people questioning if those hard hits were normal or had some extra incentive the past previous years.

DaveBrawl 03-04-2012 10:25 PM

Wasn't this an "issue" with Baltimore or Pittsburgh a couple of years ago? I seem to remember ESPN making a fuss about it for a week or so and then it just faded away and nothing came of it.

Crimson 03-04-2012 10:47 PM

Any little football news just gets magnified by ESPN. Not saying this is small news, but like if Peyton Manning gets a cold im sure 10 reporters will be on his porch monitoring what kinda cold medicine he takes.

Kris P Lettus 03-05-2012 10:49 AM

"Peyton Manning had intense diarrhea this morning.. Chris Mortenson will be coming in soon with the inside scoop.."

Kris P Lettus 03-05-2012 11:07 AM

Actually now that I think about it, a scoop of Manning diarrhea would prolly bring in big money on Ebay.. But than RP would be broke for life..
