Actually truth be told, I'd rather them let some And1 guys like The Air Up There or 50 or Main come do a dunk showcase...

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:48 PM

Next year they really need more...something. Personality, effort, crowd involvement.

Shaq offered all three a million out of his pocket to the charity of their choice if all three would go at it, Lebron was the only one who was down and wouldn't do it on the basis the other two didn't.

Least that was the rumor I was hearing ages ago.

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:49 PM

I hate Skip to My Lou in the NBA, but they need to get him out there or something.

Droford 02-13-2010 10:50 PM

Needs more Dwight Howard Superman dunks

Rafer has done ok for himself. The only And1 player I think could do was is Alimo. He's got some good length and strength on him. I think he'd be a good fit.

HeartBreakMan2k 02-13-2010 10:50 PM

They told them no props this year? I mean, I agree but that still messes with the creativity.

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:51 PM

Nate by default.

Droford 02-13-2010 10:51 PM

51%? Really? Recount!

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:51 PM

could have used a 12 foot rim this year.

Would be funny if they also involved the Globetrotters as well since they always do crazy stuff in games.

I believe the dunk contest started to lose its specialness once they started to hype storylines and not on the dunks themselves. Last year was horrible just from the commentators alone who either made fun of a few dunkers or kept talking about Nate-Dwight/Lebron.

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:52 PM

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{NATE}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Droford 02-13-2010 10:52 PM

Someone should have dunked over one of the cheerleaders.

I'm not saying that I want a sideshow, but the reality is there are no NBA players worth watching willing to do a dunk contest.

At least guys like Air Up There can do something like a 720. They don't belong in the league, but if we're going to have a dunk contest at least give us something to talk about. Even if it's not NBA players.

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 10:54 PM

dunking over people is so passe. Someone needs to bring back the failed Michael Finley cartwheel from 1997.

Brujesino 02-13-2010 10:54 PM

worst dunk contest EVER:rant:

McLegend 02-13-2010 10:55 PM

Kobe and Vince couldn't a win dunk contest now if they tried.

Agree since it would help refresh the dunk contest and help the popularity of And1/Street style basketball. NBA already allows WNBA and the D-League to be part of the All-Star break so it would make sense to include others in a "contract"-style agreement.

like how they're pretty much acknowledging that the dunk contest sucked

This is the guy who I was talking about, and Kenny mentioned as well. He did this dunk back in 2007.

HeartBreakMan2k 02-13-2010 11:03 PM

And yes, I know the reaction of the players is very annoying.

HeartBreakMan2k 02-13-2010 11:12 PM

I miss the dunk contest being good :(

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 11:13 PM

"STEVE NASH IS THE MVP! STEVE NASH FOR MVP! STEVE NASH FOR MVP!!!"

DaveWadding 02-13-2010 11:13 PM

Possibly the greatest dunk ever that's been forgotten.

HeartBreakMan2k 02-13-2010 11:16 PM

Truth be told, Nash should have won that dunk contest without even having dunked.

Emperor Smeat 02-13-2010 11:34 PM

I like how the announcers are saying the "Dunk Contest is back" when a few years later they go back to saying it needs help and how before 2005 they said it was getting stale/boring.

Juan 02-14-2010 12:14 AM

Kind of disappointed with Shannon Brown's effort in the dunk contest.

Evil Vito 02-14-2010 12:52 AM

Nate

But yeah overall the dunks were pretty weak. Contest isn't going away though. Nate should be back again next year to try and make it 3 in a row and 4 overall...but besides him I think they should try and get more "sexy" names in there. I dunno, I don't follow NBA much so I had no idea about any of the other guys in there except Nate.

alvarado52 02-14-2010 12:55 AM

Shannon could have done much more. Dude has ups and can palm the ball easily...i was looking for a 'rock the cradle' or something similar to show the control of the ball. I dunno what he was thinking. Weak contest.

Juan 02-14-2010 01:04 AM

The Mavericks have reached a tentative agreement to send Howard, Drew Gooden and two other players to Washington for swingman Caron Butler, center Brendan Haywood and guard DeShawn Stevenson, numerous NBA sources said Friday.

Skippord 02-14-2010 01:11 AM

the best part of the dunk contest was definitely the announcers mocking everyone's dunks

Droford 02-14-2010 02:02 AM

watching the celeb repeat on ESPN2 and Mark Cuban keeps on getting beat by some woman..Still dont know who it is

Nancy Lieberman

Nervous Ferret 02-14-2010 02:38 AM

The birthday cake is still the best dunk in like the last 10 years

Loose Cannon 02-14-2010 11:00 AM

Amare might be heading to the Cavs.

and dam wish Curry would of pulled it off last night. love him. should be a Knick

Nate's got incredible ups though.

SammyG 02-14-2010 02:48 PM

Shannon destroyed my hopes.

Droford 02-14-2010 07:50 PM

This is pretty ridiculous..

Londoner 02-14-2010 08:03 PM

Hate how goddamn long it takes for this all star game to actually start.
