They ended p cancelling today's meeting. Set for tommorow, LOL

Hanso Amore 08-22-2012 08:10 PM

If this happens that will be the 3rd NHL stoppage that I can remember in my life.

Baseball only had 94.

NFL had one in the 80s then last years offseason lockout.

NBA has had two lockouts effect season play.

NHL kills itself with CBA bullshit.

The NFL made it happen and havent missed a game in 20 years plus. That is why it is the fucking king of American sports.

Adder 08-24-2012 03:12 PM

90 minutes and done yesterday. Not getting together again until sometime next week.

YOUR Hero 08-29-2012 12:07 AM

New offer by the owners. Now the players will review it.

Emperor Smeat 09-05-2012 12:39 AM

Meetings broke down again with 2 weeks left in the deadline and it doesn't look good considering both sides are still too far apart but not bad enough to potentially kill the upcoming season.

Nicky Fives 09-07-2012 08:44 PM

looks like we'll have to settle for NFL..... fuck do I hate Gary Bettman......

YOUR Hero 09-07-2012 09:45 PM

Bettman is just the talking head. Hate the owners

Gertner 09-08-2012 09:47 AM

I honestly can say I have never card less about hockey

Arashi Kage 09-13-2012 06:54 PM

Now, I've been a huge anti-Buttman NHL fan since he assumed power in the NHL, however, as much as I dislike Bettman, prior to and after to listening to his live press conference on cbc.ca this afternoon, I still (unbelievably) am on Bettman's (Ownership) side with the new CBA negotiations.

Absolutely can't stand Fehr as part of the NHLPA. Dislike his background with the MLB (and the '94 strike), and with his brother getting to simply jump in as the #2 man - just seems wrong to me.

Never imagined that I'd ever find someone involved with my beloved NHL to dislike more than Buttman, but that man is Donald Fehr. :foc:

On an LOL note, was amused when Bettman made mention of the improved parity during the about to expire (current) CBA, "...29 different teams have made the playoffs during this past CBA...".

......Poor Leafs  lol

Adder 09-14-2012 01:32 PM

You side with - because of your personal feelings on the people representing , not the issue?

Odd.

Arashi Kage 09-14-2012 07:05 PM

The whole like / dislike thing is fundamentally based on the issues. I side with Buttman because I agree with his stance on the issues (hell has frozen over, lol).

Emperor Smeat 09-14-2012 11:00 PM

In about an hour from now, the NHL will officially start its lockout since the first attempt by the players to have it broken in the courts failed.

The NHLPA wanted an extension to prevent the deadline from occurring while the courts said no for now but will officially considering hearing the case at a later date.

The owners are happy it failed but at the same time are pissed since they didn't plan on the players finding an actual Canadian law that could end the lockout quickly before the owners are able to capitalize on a desperate union for more concessions.

El Fangel 09-15-2012 05:26 AM

Quebec is good for something. [/CanadianShisen]

James Steele 09-15-2012 04:21 PM

How in the hell can the NHL and NHLPA be dumb enough to let this happen? The league almost died and still hasn't recovered from the last lockout. While I'm not a hardcore fan and don't know all the details of the negotiations, I enjoy hockey and hope they figure this out.

Emperor Smeat 09-15-2012 05:23 PM

From what I understand, the owners learned nothing from the last lockout just like the NBA owners. Still giving out horrible contracts and complaining about the salary caps or tax fees even though they are making more money this time than before the last lockout.

The union itself isn't as stubborn but also not as aggressive in getting a deal done since they know they can play in other leagues in Europe if the season is cancelled.

The CBA is almost the same as the one used by the NBA although the main difference is Stern is a lot stronger than Betterman and the caps being a joke since big market teams just ignore them.

El Fangel 09-15-2012 05:53 PM

Might go kill myself in a few hours.

Nicky Fives 09-15-2012 09:44 PM

They know that they can get away with another lockout in Canada because we Canadians will always watch and the few hundred loyal fans in the States will follow as well, the general public of America that they were trying to win over will be the ones who won't give a shit.....

YOUR Hero 09-16-2012 11:22 AM

Malkin and Gonchar already signed with the KHL

Mike the Metal Ed 09-16-2012 12:26 PM

When was this other lockout people keep talking about? I know of 94/95 and 04/05, surely they can't lose another full or even half a season without working something out.

Evil Vito 09-16-2012 12:39 PM

A bunch of tiny hockey leagues benefited during the last lockout by signing a bunch of NHL guys.

Time for the Danbury Whalers to bring Jonathan Quick back to Connecticut. :shifty:

Emperor Smeat 09-16-2012 12:56 PM

So which league gets to have the Stanley Cup this season if the NHL ends up loosing the season?

El Fangel 09-16-2012 01:02 PM

1) Extend current CBA to end of season
2) Work shit out during season
3) Keep fans happy
4) ???
5) Profit

So pissed right now.

El Fangel 09-18-2012 08:44 AM

Someone submitted an opinion piece in our paper, stating that Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemeuix should meet at a local tavern and with fan input, write the new CBA.

My response got published :)

You seem like the type of person who would call into a sports radio show hot headed after a loss and start calling for every coach to be fired etc. Then they cut you off and move on to the next person.

El Fangel 09-20-2012 11:43 AM

Nah, I blame Scott Gomez.

I just dont care. Baseball has been my 1st passion for quite some time. Hockey is diluted and the style of play has become more cautious, there is little to excite me. THEN there are the lockouts. I personally never recovered fully from the last lockout. I became more of a casual observer than a die hard fan. I know I'm just one person, but I bet I'm not alone in my feelings

You aren't. I care less now then I ever have about hockey. Considering starting to watch football more now that hockey isn't available.

SammyG 09-23-2012 01:49 AM

Kings will be defending champs for 2 years.

Fignuts 09-24-2012 12:20 AM

The Fraze is the most confusing poster, ever to grace these forums, I swear to god.

El Fangel 09-24-2012 01:02 AM

Yeah, who in the fuck is a Sharks fan?

Fignuts 09-24-2012 01:20 AM

Like, we are having this big discussion about the lockout that has been going on for several pages, and he randomly posts a sharks promotional image.

I mean what is this I don't even

El Fangel 09-24-2012 02:29 AM

I suppose I can feel for him. I have been painting the Habs logo on the wall for days now.

I don't have any paint.

Blitz 09-24-2012 08:47 PM

I'm choosing to believe Brian Burke knew the lockout was coming and that's why he did fuck all for the Leafs in the off season.
