Yeah. They can't afford to eventually lose that guy. Pay him for sure.

Evil Vito 02-10-2012 03:12 PM

<font color=goldenrod>With Manningham and probably Jacobs coming off the books, there should be money to give Cruz a decent increase. I could see his agent seeking something like what Jordy Nelson got from the Packers (3 years, $12 million). I don't know how much the Giants will be able to give this off-season though, since the cap situation is already a mess. They may give him a slight bump and promise him a bigger raise if he can prove he wasn't a one year wonder or something.

Nicks has 2 years left on his deal too, so the Giants probably want to lock him up too. The players have said that they want to keep the core of the team together, but with the cap situation the way it is the players will probably have to be willing to take a little bit less than they could get on the open market.

Thankfully, JPP has said that he wants to play out his rookie contract (3 years left) and not further complicate the cap. Of course you have people like Fatcesa saying "no no no, you gotta lock him up now! they'll never be able to afford him when his deal is up. he'll turn into another Osi, it's all about the money for them, etc."</font>

Evil Vito 02-10-2012 03:17 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Sometimes I wonder what the NFL would be like if contracts were guaranteed like in MLB, where money-wise both sides have no choice but to honor it. There wouldn't be a need for holdouts anymore because the players wouldn't be able to be released and screwed out of most of their contract...

...and then I realized that if that were the case, LaVar Arrington would be entering the final year of his deal with the Giants even though in real life he's been retired for 5 years.</font> :o

<font color=goldenrod>Bucs hire Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan as their offensive coordinator.</font>

Emperor Smeat 02-11-2012 04:50 PM

Steelers announce they probably won't be keeping Hines Ward for next season although Ward is willing to take a pay cut if it means he can stay. Ward wants to retire as a Steeler but not until his current contract (2 years left) is done.

Pat's Gronk had surgery on his ankle which will take about 10 weeks to heal. He was considering just resting the ankle but ended up listening to doctor's advice for the surgery now than potentially later.

Vikings hinted they will reject the current stadium proposal from the city of Minneapolis due to the stipulation requiring some of the funding to be done with the revenues generated from ticket and other game-related sales. The amount ends up being around $20 million per year for 30 years with the Vikings unwilling to pay that amount nor have a lease lasting that long.

OssMan 02-11-2012 06:30 PM

I love how when a team wins the Super Bowl suddenly all their coaches are qualified for higher positions.

Evil Vito 02-12-2012 12:38 PM

<font color=goldenrod>It's a lot different from SB 42, where the Giants blocked a bunch of their assistants from trying to leave. They didn't let defensive backs coach Peter Giunta interview for a D-coordinator job so he's been stuck on the Giants since and he never got another chance.

Old QB coach Chris Palmer was also banned from interviewing from an offensive coordinator job so he fake retired to get out of his contract and spent a year in the UFL before becoming the Titans offensive coordinator.</font>

Gonzo 02-12-2012 02:18 PM

Wasn't Peter Giunta a DC with the Chiefs once upon a time?

Droford 02-13-2012 01:25 PM

Wonder who will take a chance on 35 year old Randy Moss for next season.

Hanso Amore 02-13-2012 01:29 PM

Looks like Stevie Johnson is going to hit the Free Agent market...Fucking Bills arent even returning his agents calls....sigh.

Emperor Smeat 02-13-2012 02:26 PM

Eagles preparing to franchise tag DeSean Jackson with the tag expected to be around $9.5 million if done.

<font color=goldenrod>Apparently he was co-DC in St. Louis for a couple of years and then the full DC in 2000. But then he got fired and has been bouncing around as a defensive backs coach ever since. Kinda shitty that the Giants blocked him after the Super Bowl win, but then again I don't know what team he was trying to go to. Personally I'd probably block anybody trying to go to a division rival but other than that I'd let them advance.</font>

Ermaximus 02-14-2012 10:24 AM

So many good WR's out there for the taking. Get on it coach Mularky.

At least the rest of your division is utter shit.

When does ESPN start with the Cowboys hype?

As soon as Ed Werder can get his fat ass off the couch and show up in front of the Stadium.

Deep down you know you love it.

Kris P Lettus 02-15-2012 05:55 PM

ESPN is removing Jaws from MNF.. It will just be Tarico and Gruden starting next season..

RoXer 02-15-2012 06:03 PM

It should just be Nessler and Fouts, they're a much better combo.

RoXer 02-15-2012 06:03 PM

Something about Nessler's voice just seems appropriate for MNF. Has a "classic" tone to it or something, hard to describe.

OssMan 02-15-2012 07:12 PM

Madden and summerall

Evil Vito 02-15-2012 07:14 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Pretty sure removing Jaws just clinched the MNF team as being the worst in football. Not that Jaws was anything to write home about, but now Gruden can spout his bullshit unopposed.</font>

Crimson 02-15-2012 07:53 PM

"I love that kid, he's gonna be something special"

I like Gruden.. i think the annoucing wont be as cluttered and Tarico as the straight man to Chucky's zaniness will work well..

For the record, if the change again, i think Mike and Mike would be perfect.. id hate to lose them in the mornings but i think they would be GOAT..

Supreme Olajuwon 02-15-2012 08:02 PM

I like Tirico and I like Gruden. So I'm good with this.

Gonzo 02-15-2012 08:22 PM

I think Tirico is very good. Gruden just says how great everyone is and how what he is watching is the greatest he's ever seen someone do it. He is tolerable. I like Jaws though. Either way, whatever.

I'll take Diehl as the world champ.

OssMan 02-16-2012 07:20 PM

lmao David Diehl

After successfully ridding the Bengals of Carson Palmer and crippling the Raiders' future, Hue Jackson completes his fiendish plot by rejoining the Bengals as an assistant today.

Gonzo 02-17-2012 06:35 PM

well played. well played.

Evil Vito 02-20-2012 01:58 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Chiefs are already starting to get to work on filling their $62 million in cap space. They've signed Stanford Routt to a 3 year deal.</font>

Innovator 02-23-2012 12:20 PM

So it begins.

If Peyton Manning goes to Miami I will poop myself. Not even because I am loaded either.
