Worst Person to be the Devil

Take your picks, folks!

drave 11-14-2023 12:43 PM

Rob Banks

Big Vic 11-14-2023 02:00 PM

Is this some AEW reveal type thing?

xrodmuc316 11-14-2023 02:06 PM

The best person would be Triple A, would explain why he is missing in action!

Big Vic 11-14-2023 03:15 PM

I remember Punks "Am I really the devil" promo from a HIAC PPV lead up.

rez 11-15-2023 08:03 PM

it's SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGG GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 11:12 AM

I voted Joey Ryan. Before I saw the list, I thought Tony Khan. Your sig made me remember Joey Janella.

drave 11-16-2023 11:39 AM

No Loose Cannon or Crossrine.

Bad poll.

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 12:09 PM

We keep talking as if there is only one Devil. But when you see a gimmick getting this much attention, why wouldn’t you get a costume and start acting like it was your idea all along. That’s why the Devil should be multiple wrestlers.

Kyle O’Reilly is obviously one of them. He’s Canadian. One of the henchmen is Roderick Strong. O’Reilly and Strong have been associated in the past.

Jack Perry is another Devil. He’s one of the four pillars and is the reason CM Punk — the original devil — is out on his bum ass. Jack Perry’s father was an actor — the Devil gimmick is theatrical and reminiscent of a Hollywood orgy costume.

Don Callis is someone that would organize this. He’s a master manipulator. He’s hiding his identity because he doesn’t want MJF and Chris Jericho to become friends. It’s all about friendship.

CM Punk is going to a Devil. But he will be on WWE television.

Britt Baker will be another Devil. Tony would have heard the rumors and thought it was a good idea. Who said the Devil needs to be a man?! She is Adam Cole’s wife and is the pillar who has replaced MJF, if you remember *that* promo.

You can probably make Sami Callihan and Matt Cardona Devils too.

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 12:32 PM

Oh and Heath Slater will be a Devil too.

drave 11-16-2023 02:16 PM

Just make a whole devil stable. They never take off their masks or speak. They just do moves that make you go OH ITS THAT ONE GUY!

Devil's Advocates. There ya go. It's carny enough

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 02:23 PM

It’s perfect. You can just have different wrestlers under the masks if someone gets hurt.

Corporate CockSnogger 11-16-2023 04:14 PM

You know who would’ve actually been a satisfying reveal who probably would’ve also still been a shock? Wardlow.

Why did they bring him back just to squash a couple of nobodies and threaten to eventually get involved with MJF from a distance? It could’ve been the thing needed to kick Wardlow back to the next level again, into a feud with MJF for the world title, and then see how he gets on leading a group rather than being a follower, see how crowd reaction is and if all goes well finally pull the trigger on him and put him over.

It’s probably Adam Cole and that’s fine I guess, but Wardlow would have been the best and most logical choice for me.

I guess it still could be him, but the surprise isn’t there now since he’s been back doing nothing for a few weeks.

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 05:26 PM

You still run into the problem of why Wardlow would be concealing his identity. If the plan is to re-emerge as a star, why wouldn’t he just kick MJF’s ass and make no excuses for it?

Lock Jaw 11-16-2023 06:06 PM

Wardlow would probably get a nice pop in that role and would be an interesting change of dynamic for him and MJF but I dont think Wardlow has the mic skills to close the deal in an ongoing way. Especially if hes going toe to toe with MJF on the mic.

I think its Cole, its a good story in the grand scheme of the him and MJF storyline but as the interest in the angle grows the chances of anyone being happy with the reveal get less and less.

People claim to want long drawn out storylines but as soon as you do anything like that with any sort of mystery sections of the IWC make up there own head cannon and anything else is disappointing.

Mr. Nerfect 11-16-2023 09:06 PM

Adam Cole doesn’t make sense. He’s injured. Also, why would he be doing it?

To fuck with MJF. It makes sense just fine.

Tony Khan being the devil seems to be gaining traction on Twitter. It's got to be Tony!

"It was me Friedman! It was me all along!"

drave 11-17-2023 08:00 AM

That line delivered with his awkward speaking skills would be funny as hell, and not in a positive way, but an Adam Sandler's mom "THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU" way.

Yup in a world where everyone hates MJF and Cole has failed to beat him twice it makes a lot of sense.

Befriend MJF, Isolate MJF, string him along and while hes distracted by everyone around him spring the trap. Whether Cole is injured IRL or its a storyline almost doesn't really matter beyond is he ready to go when the match occurs.

On a scale of making sense in wrestling this ones pretty high.

I honestly dont think many of the other theories make sense outside of it being Punk and I really dont want that tbh.

drave 11-17-2023 03:29 PM

Michael Cole > Adam Cole and has a better in-ring record :D

Sting Fan 11-17-2023 03:33 PM

I'm not really an Adam Cole guy but this has been entertaining. Him and MJF being friends, ADDDAAAAMMMM!!! is pretty funny.

If he is revealed as the devil I hope he goes full dick head heel not the semi face heel crap hes done since being in AEW.

Mr. Nerfect 11-17-2023 05:05 PM

No, it doesn’t make sense. If you want to send a message, you actually need to be able to convey what that message is. The Devil attacked Jay White. So Adam Cole or Wardlow, knowing they would reveal themselves (?) at some point, wants to make enemies out of Bullet Club Gold.

They’ve also beaten down The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn, right? So that’s another faction they don’t mind putting completely off-side for…reasons?

Wardlow has already attacked MJF and let him know that he doesn’t like him. What does he get from doing the same as a mystery figure? If Adam Cole wants to fuck with MJF, he’d just do the things he’s doing without the mystery.

Mr. Nerfect 11-17-2023 05:16 PM

This “it makes sense…for wrestling” talk needs to stop. Something is either logical or it’s not.

I’d laugh if MJF goes to the WWE and reveals himself to be the Devil there.

xrodmuc316 11-19-2023 04:21 PM

I want to change my pick. The worst option is nobody being the devil, where they just forgot about that angle entirely.

Mr. Nerfect 11-19-2023 04:23 PM

I can definitely see that happening.

Mr. Nerfect 11-19-2023 04:24 PM

And fanboys will still find a way to defend it.

Not a single thing about professional wrestling is logical. At all. Except gravity, maybe.

You are why we cannot have nice things.

drave 11-21-2023 08:46 AM

Yes me, a person who doesn't even consume the product, is why. The more logic you attempt to place on any pro-wrestling, the less sense it will make. That is nothing new.

Keep on keeping on.

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 08:51 AM

Adam Cole reveals himself to be the Devil. “Haha, my evil plan worked, Maxwell! I was never really your friend! You have no friends! Now pls grant me a shot at the World Title. I could have just asked, but I wanted to hurt your feelings! Muwahahaha!”

The Devil and his followers close in on MJF. The Acclaimed, Billy Gunn and Bullet Club Gold all hit the ring to get some revenge against the guys who attacked them.

It’s fucking stupid.

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 08:53 AM

I’m telling you now, this is 100% going to suck.

drave 11-21-2023 09:12 AM

Everything Adam Cole does sucks. I still don't "get" Adam Cole. I just know he is tiny and looks like a child trying to wrestle with men.

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 09:40 AM

No argument there.

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 09:42 AM

I could tolerate him in the mid-card or something, but everything being Cole-centric has always sucked. I wasn’t even interested in NXT when he was there.

drave 11-21-2023 10:37 AM

His song and the audience participation part with "BOOM" is more over, tbh.

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 10:57 AM

I just loosely booked out AEW until the third Wembley Stadium show. Adam Cole, unfortunately, does get about 6 months with the Tag Titles and gets to unify the ROH Tag Titles with them. The bastard.

His theme in NXT was better, tbh

Lock Jaw 11-21-2023 05:36 PM

I stopped watching NXT when he was champ.... I remember people here going banana over a Gargano/Cole match and I was just like "that was pretty bad"

Mr. Nerfect 11-21-2023 05:40 PM

NXT really lost something when Owens left. I remember that Finn Balor period being where I just couldn’t be bothered to stay up on it. Don’t know if it was “bad” per se, but it certainly felt like a slog.

The Revival/Alpha Academy/DIY period of the tag division was great though. But I could never get into Johnny Gargano as a single. Glad he and Ciampa are together on the main roster. In theory, anyway.

screech 11-21-2023 06:32 PM

Adam Cole is pretty meh for me. I won't change the channel or skip his segments, but I'm not super excited about him either. His size is definitely a factor.

The "training" vignettes with MJF were fun, though.

xrodmuc316 11-22-2023 01:03 AM

NXT for me lost the luster not even because of what they were doing, but because the way Vince used everybody good from NXT so badly that it made NXT lose being worth really investing in. At the time I came to that realization when Aleister Black was champion, thinking he should be somebody to be excited about getting called up to the main roster, but knowing there was no way Vince would book him well.

Looking back now, the truth is that it ended when Bobby Roode lost the NXT title to McIntyre, and then debuted on Smackdown the next week as a babyface for no other reason but people liked his entrance music.

Everything after that was hoping people didnt get called up and ruined, and just treating NXT as its own show, not building up anybody to make an immediate impact on the main roster.

Mr. Nerfect 11-22-2023 01:07 AM

Yeah, there was a real disconnect between NXT and the main roster. That’s one of the positive changes Vince being out of creative means. Triple H can plan forwards way more now.

Tom Guycott 11-22-2023 01:26 AM

I still think that was the plan when Vince was distracted with XFL 2: Electric Boogaloo. Set guys up in NXT, hammer out the things they consider kinks, and call them up as "new" superstars with something to them that's already kinda working. As much as I couldn't stand HHH as a talent, he does make a far better coach and team executive than the mediocre, up his own ass player he was on the field.

But Vince came back too early, saw the talent on the burner, and went "WHAT THE FUCK, PAL?!?" here and "BUT HE'S JUST SO TINYYYYY!!" there, and fucked everything up with touches and spins when they got called up. As much as they dodged a proverbial bullet with Velveteen Dream (we didn't know about the crazy batshittery and the child chasing at the time), but I remember being more fearful than excited with his "Call Me Up, Vince" gear that he would be taken up on it, then stripped of everything that made him so captivating. Multiply that by nearly everyone.

I think that's also why there was this whole "turmoil backstage" thing brewing a few years ago with Hunter - the rumors of people talking about how they were "lied to" was prob'ly because the original plan of pushing guys Vince wouldn't have running up against a returning Vince who wasn't having it. And because it's Vince, the issue goes unaddressed because you can't just throw "THE" big boss under the bus he's clearly driving.

Mr. Nerfect 11-22-2023 05:28 AM

I think there’s something in Vince’s nature that just means he has to clash with someone else’s “guys.” If Triple H thought you had the tools, Vince has to prove that you didn’t, pal. He fucked with so many Cornette guys from OVW, Heyman guys, Trips guys.

xrodmuc316 11-22-2023 02:05 PM

I can only imagine how pissed Vince is somewhere while Bronson Reed is getting a push and on TV every week but Omos hasn't been around since SummerSlam.

Mr. Nerfect 11-22-2023 05:01 PM

Oh, I’ve got a feeling Omos will be back.

Ben Rodrigues 11-23-2023 03:28 AM

People buzzing on the Twitter that The Devil is Jack Perry. Horrible.

xrodmuc316 11-23-2023 12:38 PM

Not just about Jungleboy being a really weird and lackluster choice, but to reward him right after his suspension would be yet another example of poor leadership within AEW.

Mr. Nerfect 11-24-2023 04:54 PM

WWE is going to get CM Punk back and AEW is going to go swinging with Jack Perry. Hilarious.

Mr. Nerfect 11-24-2023 05:25 PM

Nah, I think they may have planned for it to be Jack Perry, but then they’ve seen the reaction and are going to pretend it was Adam Cole all along, even though it doesn’t make sense.

Jack Perry will end up with Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus when Christian turns on them to team with Edge.

Mr. Nerfect 11-28-2023 06:07 AM

Wouldn’t surprise me if it was supposed to be Punk. He must have been working Tony to make him think there was no way he would sign with WWE.

Ben Rodrigues 12-13-2023 05:24 AM

Sepholio 12-13-2023 05:41 AM

Gonna be Atsushi Onita!

Helmsphere 12-13-2023 12:05 PM

Clearly it has to be Johnny Curtis. Clearly this was a plot by Ultra Mantis to get his nephew Jack Perry over, and the only person who can do that is Fandango.

Ben Rodrigues 12-31-2023 06:00 AM

Adam Cole. How do we feel?

Mr. Nerfect 12-31-2023 07:32 AM

Tickled. Pretty funny stuff. Why’d he do it? He didn’t even cost MJF. He’s aligned himself with Roderick Strong, who is comedy; Wardlow, who has been booked into oblivion; The Kingdom, who may not have won a single match before winning the ROH Tag Titles. This is HORRIBLE booking.

Ben Rodrigues 12-31-2023 07:47 AM

Did The Devil ever appear live and able to walk after Adam Cole's injury?

Ol Dirty Dastard 12-31-2023 07:49 AM

There was no good person to be the devil because these angles have historically been atrocious. This was probably the best way out, and by the reactions I'm seeing, it still didn't/doesn't work.

Mr. Nerfect 12-31-2023 04:04 PM

You’re right, but it’s by their hand. I’ve seen people say what you’re saying as an excuse and it’s like “hold on a minute…why are you even doing this at all?”

Masked figure stories rarely work (why would they act like that?), but Coke makes particularly little sense. Why has he made enemies with half the roster and done this to MJF? What does he gain?

Also, the execution was horrible.

I'm not mad about it. Cole is way more interesting as a heel so that's a plus already. I'm interested to see where it goes.

screech 01-03-2024 02:41 PM

I'm not really into these Kingdom guys (Mike Bennett and...I don't know the other guy's name), though. But I like Wardlow's inclusion here.

I can only tell them apart by which one is closer to Maria, and she isn't next to them. Maybe she also has an NDA?

Also, Taven looks like an NPC. He seems like his only piece of dialogue is about how much he likes using the hammerlock. Bennett looks like some dude. Like, there was a point in his WWE run where I joked that he, Curt Hawkins, and Buddy were all the same person collecting three checks.

In fact, you don't see Matthews and Bennett in the same place at the same time.

Sting Fan 01-05-2024 02:25 AM

Its a good outcome for AEW. It got the ongoing reaction week to week with lots of conjecture about who its going to be. Cole works in the role and it winks to some of the longer term plays they have done.

Hopefully AC is more of a proper heel this run and doesn't indulge in the catchphrase, cool heel bullshit.

My only real issue with it is how do you keep it hot until MJF returns with him and Cole injured, Seems like this has the potential to be a big MJF return pop straight into a cold angle.

XL 01-05-2024 03:55 PM

Talk of MJF being out for up to a year. Could be bull to make the return “even bigger” but I’m not sure how they keep it hot for that long if true.

xrodmuc316 01-05-2024 05:27 PM

It was never smart to books like 8 different angles around MJF, who even if he wasn't injured, would have been nonsensical if they were going to run the "oh he is a free agent" deal. That whole thing dies after the first WWE show he doesn't show up on. The tease of him going to WWE when his contract is up doesn't work once his contract is actually up.

Mr. Nerfect 01-05-2024 06:10 PM

I watched the promo. Fucking boring. Cliched. A bunch of white dudes dressed in black pretending to be evil. Be honest, this fucking sucks.

They’re already booking this to end too. Wardlow handing off the title to MJF? Lol.
