Good point.

NeanderCarl 03-11-2007 01:58 PM

Apparently, this was the original Evolution Titantron vid. Is it even called the Titantron anymore? Hmm. I don't remember that theme tune, though.

Xero 03-11-2007 03:20 PM

LOL, I remember that theme. I think it was in one of the games and they had used it for a week or two. I do remember it because I remember thinking the one with lyrics is better.

NeanderCarl 03-11-2007 06:26 PM

Flair's hair looks awesome in that video. So out of place.

NeanderCarl 03-11-2007 06:27 PM

How come Batista never made it into the video?

Xero 03-11-2007 06:31 PM

They probably filmed it before Batista was a lock.

Nah, Batista was in before Randy Orton was. I know he was laid off with an injury for a while, but the plan was always for him to return into Evolution, which is exactly what he did. Even with his injury, they could have planned ahead and put him in the video. It just seems incomplete without him.

Jeritron 03-12-2007 12:35 AM

Evolution is one of the most underrealized stables I have ever witnessed. Could have been great, could have gotten a bit bigger, could have switched leaders when Orton was a main eventer, and could have been one of those stables that runs the show.
Could have been a great one.

NeanderCarl 03-12-2007 01:00 PM

To be honest, I think they had a nice two year run, which is a long time in today's wrestling business. They won titles, made an impact, were involved in some memorable matches and angles. I wouldn't call it underrealized. They had a good run, and it ended at about the right time.

The only thing that could have made a difference would be if they had added new members. Maybe when Orton and Batista broke away, Trips and Flair could have brought in two new young guys and led a feud between the new-look Evolution against Orton and Batista. That might have been a missed opportunity, but other that that I can't see much to complain about with Evolution's run.

NeanderCarl 03-12-2007 01:02 PM

At that time, Christian and Tomko would have been interesting replacements for Orton and Batista.

PullMyFinger 03-14-2007 01:46 PM

LMAO Yet another reason why no one should be surprised as to why WCW made poor business decisions that led them to close down.

This is the night after Starrcade 97, check out the ending to this match....I think Shiavone's last words actually meant to say, 'OH SHIT WTF IS GOING ON, NO ONE PLANNED OUT A TIME STRUCTURE TO THIS NITRO!'

Xero 03-14-2007 02:09 PM

When the hell is WWE going to use Michael Buffer? Seriously, I'm surprised they didn't use him for the main event at Mania last year.

SammyG 03-14-2007 02:20 PM

I hated it when they did that shit. Who won that match anyway?

On the next Thunder they claimed it was a controversial Sting win and they title would be vacant till the next PPV for another Sting vs. Hogan matchup.

All in all, they really fucked up that feud.

SammyG 03-14-2007 04:26 PM

And it had such promise.

addy2hotty 03-14-2007 07:35 PM

Love the way Shavione claimed the bell hadn't rung when Hogan hit Sting with the belt.

Er, it had.

The One 03-14-2007 09:24 PM

Heavy bet says Hogan somehow convinced them to put the match on way after time limit so that he wouldn't have to put Sting over again that night...even though he did a shitty job of it the night before...god I hate Hogan for all I know he did, and all the random things I can accuse him of with no proof that I chose to believe are real out of pure spite and hatred.

PullMyFinger 03-15-2007 06:52 PM

Doink the Clown and Jerry the King Lawler vs. Bret Hart at SummerSlam 93

IMO this is Heenan at his best...I wish we could have a commentator as great as him today. This guy is truly a legend. lmao @ "It's a miracle!"

I liked the way they would bring Michael Buffer in as an announcer for the main event. Having a special announcer made the main event seem all the more important. I think WWE should do the same thing on all three brands with The Fink.

NeanderCarl 03-15-2007 08:41 PM

As for the match itself.... Sting really should have destroyed Hogan at Starrcade '97 and the nWo should have fallen apart in the immediate aftermath. 1998 should have focused on Goldberg, Raven, Jericho, Benoit etc., with the former members of the nWo feuding, but with all nWo affiliations over with and done. Meh it's all hindsight I suppose...

The only good thing to come out of the nWo continuing beyond that night was the way it helped build Goldberg in mid 1998.

Best theme song ever? Most racist video ever? Worst lip synching ever? You decide.

Was the nation meant to be a wwe version of the black panthers? Never realy thought about that till just now. =/

Also listen to jr when the rock misses the second elbow drop, he takes his elbow pad off yet JR says he drove his unexposed elbow into the canvas. :nono:

More like a WWE version of the Nation of Islam, with the Boricuas as the Sharks from West Side Story and the DOA as Hell's Angels. It wasn't a creative highpoint.

Pretty mild reaction there for Austin, considering this was mid 1998 when Austin was white hot.

I have to post it because I love Jericho :(

I get chills every time I hear that pop. I must have seen it a thousand times now since, but still. Honestly, I love the collective 'yyyyyyyyeahhhhh!!!'

Jeritron 03-21-2007 01:33 AM

That youtube is pretty quiet, if the volume went further that pop would be given more justice. I have it on tape and it's awesome.

Jeritron 03-21-2007 01:33 AM

nevermind, the volume on thats fine, I was assuming it was the same one I found on youtube.

Jeritron 03-21-2007 01:34 AM

I mark out when the lights go on too. And when he says Welcome to Raw..Is..Jericho, and turns aroudn with the most confidence ever.

Best debut ever. Best first lines ever. Best first appearance ever. Best debut promo ever.
