Guitar Hero Live

Seems kinda neat, they are changing quite a bit, which is a welcome change.

On one hand, the audacity of Activision the killer of the sub-genre is thick as tear gas tossed in a Rock Band 4 parade.

On the other hand, there's some fucking good ideas in there. Just different enough to be worth a look. The new guitar is interesting.

Indeed. I was kinda stoked for RB too, even though I enjoyed Guitar Hero more. Hopefully they will bring something "fresh" too.

Using live-action shots of the crowd is a big mistake. Should have stayed with 3D models for the new perspective.

drave 04-14-2015 04:31 PM

I'll bite - why is one over the other a mistake?

While they recorded enough footage (allegedly) to generate dynamic crowd reactions to your performance you can't possibly create an algorithm using live recorded footage - ALONG with recorded band play (for EVERY song!) to maintain visual sync with your gameplay. This has shown itself 20yrs ago with early Sega CD and certain arcade games. At the end of the day they're using movies that play on cue, and I doubt very much these DJ Hero guys figured out what nobody else ever can.

It's either gonna sync 'just well enough', or have jarring hiccups that will break the immersion. Also factor in multiplayer play which would have to remove a recorded band mate, I assume. Multiplayer wasn't even discussed. They could have used the great new perspective with 3D models (and crowd sounds) that will also animate on cue, rather than hoping to god they recorded enough to meet every possible permutation of play and performance.

Activision revealed the list of the live artists in the game.

Quote:

Apart from Skrillex, the remaining 12 musicians are the type of mix we've come to expect from these games -- a lot of popular faces along with some classics. It's far from a complete list, but The Black Keys, Blitz Kids, Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy, Gary Clark Jr., Green Day, The Killers, The Lumineers, My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil, The Rolling Stones, and The War on Drugs are all that Activision is willing to divulge this early.
Mobile version is also currently in development.

Looks interesting, haven't decided if I'll pick either games up though. Apparently Guitar Hero Live is going to JUST be guitar this time, which appeals to me as I always loved the early Guitar Hero games. But then Rock Band will allow me to use my previously bought DLC.

Tough choice.

Kalyx triaD 04-15-2015 05:40 AM

You understand you can simply play RB4 as strictly a guitar game.

Disturbed316 04-16-2015 01:26 AM

Yeah, but always felt Rock Band restricted single instrument players, to really progress and get more fans you needed more instruments. :-\

Does anyone remember the poster Lord of Darkness? Hasn't posted here for a number of years but I know him outside the world of TPWW. Anyway, he recorded a number of scenes as part of the live action crowd, pretty sweet.

Unlike the previous time, Activision doesn't have plans to annualized the Guitar Hero series again. No plans on releasing a new game for next year.

Quote:

Speaking to Game Informer, Tyler Michaud, the senior director of product management, stated, "It is not in our plan to put out a new disc in 2016."

Don't fret though, as Activision has likely found a more lucrative way of selling you stuff constantly -- DLC. Michaud says it best: "When you look at what [Guitar Hero Live's GHTV] can do, we can bring you that new content and new ways to play without having to ship you a new disc."

I YouTube these tracks as they're revealed and I gotta say this has a strong playlist, but only because some legendary tracks were already released via RB DLC.
