Spyware and virus question...

I believe I do have spyware or some kind of virus, I ran a virus thing with Norton and it tells me nothing is infected and all that...and I dont believe it....

I just want to know, what exactly is spyware and how can you get rid of it? Cant you buy a spyware or some kind of program like that at the store (Walmart or something) to get rid of it? And can someone give me suggestions of a good anti virus program and a good firewall? Thanks.

In addition to what DW suggested try Spybot, it catches what AdAware misses. As far as a free and excellent anti-virus give AVG a shot.

Spybot Serch and Destroy is an excellent product.

Use it. Fix the problems it finds. Then immunize your PC and install the blocker for IE.

AVG is a really good, free anti-virus program. Be aware that it catches some things that other do not. This is because most AV programs ignore some adware/spyware. When using AVG keep in mind that many websites (35MB for example) will try to get you to install an application when viewing their pages or attempting downloads. AVG may detect this as a virus.

Some say it is BS, while others think it's a good thing that AVG draws your attention to these things.

If you don't have a firewall, I would recommend Sygate Personal Firewall. It is also free. Firewalls are mandatory these days.
