Excited about a tag team

Yeah I don't know if you guys have read/taken notice of the Velocity spoilers but British wrestler Paul Burchall (was known as Burchill in FWA) debuted on Velocity but more interestingly it was in a pre-match beat down with William Regal of Mr Babyface, Scotty 2 Hotty.

Can somebody say heel British tag team?

To be honest I don't know why it's taken them so long to test out some British workers what with their UK tours and Raw and Smackdown yearly events from the UK. If they do tag, this team has a lot of promise we all know what Regal is capable of with his European style wrestling and top notch mic skills. Burchall's mic skills aren't up to much with what I remember he was the silent monster type with a manager to do his talking in FWA but fucking hell, this guy can do a standing shooting star press at 6'4" and 275lbs. I once saw a video of FWA where he ran from one corner and threw himself over the opposite corner's ring post in, I think, a forward flip type aerial assault. He's kind of like a more aerial Brock Lesnar but doesn't sound like a baby.

In summary, if Regal/Burchall do tag and are pushed right, I will be creaming.

Couldn't agree more Mack, there's a few Brit workers that deserve a shot and offer something different IMO.

Doug Williams:

He's in my top 10 workers in the world right now, the guy is just awesome, the only problem is that he would suffer from Chris Benoit syndrome as the guy aint that good on the mic, but as a worker he's fucking awesome

Jody Fliesch:

In his prime words cannot describe the greatness of this guy, he's on the come back trail right now, he needs to get back to his former chizzled look and maybe beef up some more, he would only really end up as a velocity cruiserweight because of his size, but that guy deserves a shot IMO

Nigel Mcguiness:

I haven't seen loads of him as he's mainly ROH, but from what I have seen i've liked, he's got a real world of sport feel to him with his chain wrestling, he's got a good look to him and he's already getting booked in the states, so he's probably got one of the better shots

Johnny Storm:

He isn'y going to make it, too small and he needs to work on his body, on the mic he's great and his matches with Jody are things of legend, but I don't consider him to be a WWE contender, shame really.

The Mackem 08-27-2005 04:21 PM

Yeah you've picked four of the best their Dave and they've all got experience in the US. I think the main problem that may effect UK workers is AJ Styles syndrome, I'm not so sure that many British workers would want an OVW development contract in a foreign country. You never know how long you are going to spend there.

I dissagree, i think it works the other way round, why would the WWE want to clear visa's and shit for UK workers when they have ample US workers of the same quality, you need to be something pretty special for them to take that much of an interest in you, Birchill is an example of that as he does things no one else of his size can do. The other 3 guys have US counterparts, which limits there sucess on TV, a TNA deal may not be out of the question of course though.

The Mackem 08-27-2005 04:35 PM

Yeah you have a point, WCW seemed to be more open to UK workers that the WWE ever was. Bar the British Bulldogs and now Burchill no names come to mind quickly who they brought over themselves, that's making a massive assumption on the Bulldogs and Dynamite was massive around the world back in his day.

ROH went with McGuinness and Williams because of their pure abilities, ROH and CZW went with Fleisch because of his insane spots, CZW with Storm to have an all British fight with Fleisch. TNA brought a few of NWA UK's workers for Team GB in the International Cup tournment thing they have occasionally, I remember seeing Storm get squashed by Teddy Hart in one of those matches :nono:

errrm yeah just rambling about UK related stuff. Get yourself over to the US and do us proud Dave.

This is the first time I can think of when the WWE actually brought over a guy themselves, Regal was via WCW and Bulldog and Dynmaite were via Stampede.

That Storm/Hart match was pretty good IMO, but was for some international super x cup tournement thing.

The NWA UK team sucked big time, was only used once and didn't involve Storm or anyone i mentioned already, I think Frankie Sloan was in there and Harry Smith? But they are the only one's I can think of.

On a side note, after watching Smith work a couple of matches, thus far i've been unimpressed, i didn't include him on the list as he's US breed and seems to suck.

The Mackem 08-27-2005 05:02 PM

Yeah Smith is better when he's with TJ in the Stampede Bulldogs team but still he's at least half British.

Storm was used in a Team GB (no reaction when he came out :( ) one year but not the year they used all the NWA UK guys. That year it was people like Frankie Sloan, Dean Allmark, James Mason, Robbie Dynamite might have been more not sure.

In conclusion

We are the only 2 people who seem to give a dam about this thread

and the UK has some very good talent that will most likely not get US TV exposure, because the USA is rubbish and don't recognise decent talent.

Case closed

I thought the thread was interesting...

Last week, Regal got pops for going back to his old ways. I thought it was funny.

Anyway, sounds pretty good.

RottingFreak 08-27-2005 05:35 PM

Yeah, I always liked heel Regal.
Always entertaining in the mic.

Danny Electric 08-27-2005 07:18 PM

I agree Mackem, I'm a big fan of Burchall from his FWA days and I agree with the Fleisch thing. His matches that I have see have been amazing.

I must admit though, I liked him when he was looking out for Eugene. That was the primary (Or perhaps sole) point of interest in the angle.

Boondock Saint 08-27-2005 09:43 PM

I'd like to see more British wrestlers as well. LOL @ one guy named James Mason.

Too bad we'll prolly never see this Burchall dude do his shooting star press while in WWE. :nono:

Danny Electric 08-27-2005 10:11 PM

It is a sight to see :)

cafctom 08-28-2005 03:02 AM

Also, the C4 (I think that is what it is called) - A rock bottom kinda move but with a backflip. Incredible the way that this guy pulls off sick moves.

Mr. Nerfect 08-28-2005 05:17 AM

Burchill needs to just bust out the Standing Shooting Star Press (this he would get away with, IMO) and the C4 regardless if the WWE lets him or not. Why? Because once people see he can do this shit, he will be OVER.

I love Regal, and I was a bit sad when I thought of the heel turn, becuas eface Regal is a character I could really mark out for, but then I thought this either meant push, or heel British stable. Looks like we're getting a heel British tag team. If Regal is ever going to retire, I think he should be a manager. He could really get some guys like Burchill over.

The ONE thing I am worried about is that Burchill will be called "Charles Regal" or somthing. Just the way Josh Mathews and Steve Romero were screaming "Who is this guy?" makes me think he'll play Regal's nephew or something. I hope not, because this guy can get over for just being himself.

The Mackem 08-28-2005 06:23 AM

He should keep the insane moves for stuff like win championships.

I agree the natural progression for Regal should be him becoming a manager.

of coruse, there are always issues with working permits and that for going to the WWE right?

I beleive that why Burchill took so long 2 debut

Loose Cannon 08-28-2005 11:30 AM

we're gonna give them no reaction so they never get over.

hahahahaha

Loose Cannon 08-28-2005 11:31 AM

nah, I hope they get over cause more tag teams are needed.

Kane Knight 08-28-2005 11:44 AM

Anyone got images of these finishers?

Kane Knight 08-28-2005 11:45 AM

Well,, MOVES.

Funky Fly 08-28-2005 12:53 PM

Fliesch and Storm are amazing guys. It just makes me wish more and more that WCW weren't dead or that TNA would get their shit together.

The Mackem 08-28-2005 06:24 PM

Burchill in FWA doing a suicide dive which I mentioned earlier in the topic

Dave Youell 08-28-2005 06:59 PM

Ok just saw the debut, he looked more toned and alot more tanned. The beard seemed to suit him.

They look good as a team, this should be very good

Kane Knight 08-28-2005 07:05 PM

Not bad.
