Rey Mysterio: "I'm not retiring, deal with it muchachos" *UPDATE* Rey Mysterio out with injury

He should go away, tho.
Where has he been? I understand Sin Cara's (permanent) absence, but I have a hard time believing there isn't a spot for him in the current program.
Something about Rey Rey trying to emulate Andre makes me chuckle inside. It's not the sentiment of the statement, but the mental image I'm forming of a giant Rey Mysterio.

What are the odds he blows out a quad doing his entrance one day? I'd say pretty good.

Steroids are a helluva drug
Roid Kneesterio should just retire.
Really hope he has one good feud left in him. Hell of a wrestler, when 100%.
I can't think of anyone I would be interested in seeing Rey feud with.
Rey kind of always got the same underdog push Cena did, except with zero character growth. Cena, like him or hate, has had character growth over the years it seems. Rey has just been given stale feuds for the last years when he wasn't injured. |

My favorite Mysterio Moment (TM) is still when he got lawn darted into the WCW production trailer. And as a huge Kurt Angle mark, my least favorite moment was when Rey Rey was handed the belt at WM22 out of sympathy for Eddie. |

As for Rey retiring, I'm kinda on the fence here. On the one hand he's always been one of my favorites, but I also can see he's just slowly going down hill every time he comes out to the ring. It's a shame that Sin Cara didn't work because it'd have been great if Rey could have gone out while passing the torch. Maybe if he's got a few more years in him they can find someone who will actually work in the role and he can have his retirement match against them. Honestly I just don't understand why they didn't just give the Sin Cara gimmick to Hunico in the first place. He'd have been more than adequate as Rey's "replacement". |

rey mysterio said he tries to emulate andre the giant........
I have to assume his English is so bad he doesn't know what "emulate" means.
Love Hunico as Sin Cara. Rey Mysterio gets too much shit. One of the best workers the WWE has at its disposal. He can still make some stars.

"it really did smack of doing it for Eddie"... I'm not sure what you mean by "smack" here. Did you mean "smell of doing it for Eddie"? Anyway, of course it was for Eddie, and for his fans and family and friends. Does that make it a bad thing? I wasn't aware that kind and endearing gestures were bad. As for Orton going over it'd have been a complete waste. The guy was already pretty well over by that period of time, and a triple threat win for the B-title wouldn't have done anything for him. In fact I'd argue that it was good for him because it helped lead him to becoming the guy he is today. Had he won the title there he'd probably have remained on Smackdown! longer, and been thrown into some "meh" feuds before losing the title to somoene that wouldn't have needed the rub and wouldn't give Orton a rub. All in all I think that Mysterio winning the title was a great way to cap off the entire story, and to give closure to the fans and people that loved Eddie. It also helped put Rey into Eddie's spot as "the" Latino star for WWE. |
Really don't think Orton has accomplished all that much, status wise, since that Mania 22 match. I mean, he's had some forgettable title runs as a transition champion type champion. The only run I remember loving was his feud with Christian, and of course, putting over Mark Henry. That's about the peak of Orton's career, there. He's been pretty blandly booked as champion before and after that.
But yeah, I teared when Rey won the title. One of my faves of all time getting a well deserved moment, regardless of Eddie's death. It's still an awesome moment for me. |
The 619 is a terrible finisher, just terrible.
So is the People's Elbow and Hogan's Leg Drop. Like those moves, the 619 is over, and that's what counts, regardless of how terrible it is.
It hasn't been over for a while and neither of those moves force someone to act unconscious on the middle rope for an eternity.
Probably the best for him if he did retire soon just for his knees sake. Do think he's right about once he retires, he'd go straight into the Hall similar to Edge's induction.
Shame the Cara-Rey feud barely worked because of both guys health and Cara's bad reputation since the idea of the entire crowd wearing Cara and Rey masks would have been cool to see. |
Yeah, a guy lying down, while his opponent stands, removed his elbow pad, throws it into the stands, waives his arms around, hits the ropes, leaps over you, hits the ropes again, completely stops all his momentum, poses, then drops an elbow is an instant, out nowhere maneuver.
It's nowhere near as clunky looking as the 619, and from a kayfabe standpoint they've at least took a big impact move prior to it, not a head scissors or a drop toe hold.
I also think the peoples elbow is a ridiculous finisher btw, I just think the 619 is worse.
From a kayfabe standpoint, taking two knees to the face at the speed and velocity Rey generates makes a lot more sense then a basic elbow drop or leg drop. Point is, when Rey was over, his move was over, regardless that its set up/execution is ridiculous. Just like the Rock getting over and, thus, his ridiculous finisher is over.
For the record, I absolutely hate the pumphandle slam, finisher or otherwise.
I just don't think it works on larger opponents, as soon as I see him signalling it I lose interest in the match, everyone I know is the same. I will concede it is infinitely more believable than the Worm though.
Christ, I forgot about the worm.
it's all unbelievable and all of the finishers mentioned here are gold
I want Rey to stay around but only if he stays healthy.

Rey is now out with injury

That's not really news anymore. That's just his standard state nowadays.
It'd be like having a segment on the nightly news just to remind you that Charlie Sheen is still alive. Only, y'know, less surprising. |
GIVE IT UP YOU GOD DAMN MEXICAN DWARF IT'S OVER
Mysterio's knee braces made the 619 hurt more. I'm pretty sure Chris Kanyon lost a tooth from the move at some point, though it was already loose before the match due to cavities or whatever. Can't be arsed to find the years old news link.
has anyone met him in real life? Feels like it would be painful holding a convo with him when you know all he's thinking about is tripping your ass into a rope and kicking your face in.
Rey: Hey I'm ready to check into the hotel, I had reservations for me and my family, haha booyaka booyaka, Jason Derulo.
Hotel Clerk: Ok....what's the name on the reservation sir? Rey: Pfft, you don't recognize me? Piece of normal crap you are, punta. I'm the best wrestler alive, haha what? booyaka. Mysterio ma'am. Hotel Clerk: *Pushes security button* Ok sir, I'm going to need you to ca..(Gets tripped into edge of desk, 619'ed) |

So what's up with everyone who has been hating on the People's Elbow in here? You all act like there's no way, even ONE of those times that Rock could've incapacitated his opponent long enough to do the entire move. THAT is what's ridiculous here.
