NFL 2012 Off-Season Thread
Dammit we have to wait another 6 months. :(
Get some players Chiefs. |
lol WTF 2 minutes apart
|
lol. Somebody delete mine. D-Mac decided to be a huge fucking asshole.
|
Also, Where will the almighty Peyton go? Let's spin the wheel, gentlemen.
|
I am praying that the Dallas Cowboys hure a competent GM.
|
Honestly. If Peyton fully recovers, I think he's going to have the biggest FU season of all time. The touchdown record could fall. I think if the Colts were smart, they trade the number one , get a ton of athletic defensive players like Burfect from ASU and a 1st round corner like the kid from LSU, Morris Claiborne. He could be had with a top 10 pick, Burfect will be in the 20's, so if they can get two first rounders this year, they could really build an outstanding defense. Chuck Pagano is a defensive guy.
Scenario: Indy trades the number one pick to the Browns for there two first rounders, a 2nd rounder ( 36) and Joe Haden. Now the Colts have the number 4, 22, 33 and 36th pick in this years draft. Your starting DB's are set Haden is fantastic and Jerraud Powers is one of the most underrated corners in the league. With the 4th pick, you take RG3. With the 22nd, maybe Mark Barron, Saftey from Alabama, or Michael Brockers , DE from LSU, or maybe you grab a playmaking receiver like Michael Floyd or RG3's Baylor WR, Kendall Wright. Or you can sure up your Oline. The 33 and 36 picks will net you someone really good. For instance, Vontaze Burfict is a classic top 10 talent that's gunna drop because of discipline questions. He could be there at 33, ripe for the picking. You might even see Dont'a Hightower, ILB from Bama, available. The Colts could really restock big time if they trade this number one. |
There is a snowball's chance in hell Indy trades out of the number one spot.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Much like after their last Super Bowl win, I think the Giants are going to lose a ton of guys to free agency. Manningham immediately springs to mind, as does Kiwanuka. Terrell Thomas is a free agent but missing the season this year may actually help the Giants...he might have to take a 1 year deal to prove his health.
I'm sure we'll also have some more Osi drama. Their cap situation was a mess this year already so I have no idea what to expect come the 2012 season. But my faith in Jerry Reese has been restored. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Giantsssssss</font> |
I think Kiwi will be back. Manningham is probably going to leave. I think the Giants will gladly let Osi go. They won't pay him what he wants for how long he wants. I think Jacobs is gone. Terrell Thomas will be back.
The Giants most definitely need to draft one of three positions: OL, TE, or LB. Or maybe they'll just draft another DE and play DE at every position. |
Lions will be busy, as we will have to stock up with better defenders and shore up the offensive line in the draft. Also, do not be surprised if they decide to draft a RB as well as Best is more than likely dead, and Leshoure will be coming back from a torn achilles. Oh and the fact that Kevin Smith is either a beast for 45 minutes and then dies
|
Face it, RP. Peyton is going to the 49ers.
And no, I don't actually believe that. |
kind of want the Broncos to draft Vontaze Burfict based solely on his cool name, really hope they can get either Dre' Kirkpatrick or Janoris Jenkins though
|
Everyone be sure to post on the first page about what their favorite team should do this offseason and then for the rest of the thread only comment on headline news

Nvm, you guys are on it

Congrats to all the Africans enjoying their brand new Patriots swag.

To be fair, Lady Brady isn't too far off. Tom Brady can't pass to himself... yet.
|
Really hope Manningham comes to Jacksonville. I know it's a longshot but, Mike Wallace too.
|
Some people are actually hoping that Welker isn't re-signed next season after his dropped pass last night.
|
Saw a report that Gronkowski and Matt Light were out partying shirtless after the game.
|
thats not the appropriate response?...
|
Hoping the 'Boys sign a guard in free agency. Grubbs or the guy from the Saints I forgot his name. Then in the draft just focus on defense..secondary, a fat D-tackle, and a rush linebacker.
Maybe switching to a 4-3 defense would be good, but I think Ryan is a 3-4 guy |
Peyton Manning to the Cardinals.
|
I can totally see Peyton going to the Cardinals or Redskins.
|
Seahawks and the 9ers would be great places for Peyton, IMO. Good defenses, solid lines... DO IT, PEYTON.
|
Alex Smith would slit his wrists if they signed Manning
|
Ray Rice is gonna get FRANCHISED
thats about the only thing for sure I know will happen with the Ravens. |

I had a friend today ask me if Drew Bledsoe still played for the Patriots.
|
Well... Does he?
|
Giants took the rabbit's foot Rex had up in his office this season.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I see Kareem McKenzie is one of the Giants' impending free agents. He's gonna be a really tough call actually. He's old and sometimes ineffective, but the line really gelled nicely down the stretch. The Giants could probably try to have Beatty replace him, allowing Diehl to stay at left tackle (where he plays his best IMO) and keep Boothe as a starting guard.
Even though many are calling for the Giants to draft a LB, I there's gonna be a massive logjam there as it is. Goff missed the season so he can probably come back on a 1 year deal and the coaching staff likes him...I'd expect them to give Sintim one more shot too in pre-season. Blackburn is a free agent and was incredible filling in this year, no way does he miss half the season in unemployment. Boley and Kiwi are still there...as are the 4 rookies from this year (Herzlich, Williams, Jones, Paysinger), all of whom showed flashes of brilliance at times. Can't keep all of 'em, especially if they draft another one. Hate to say it but I think Blackburn is gonna go elsewhere next year...not because the Giants don't want him, but I just think another team is bound to give him more money. Ditto for some of the other quality backups, like Tollefson.</font> |
FOX 31 Denver reports that Knowshon Moreno was arrested on drunken driving charges on February 1.
Moreno was driving a Bentley convertible 70MPH in a 45MPH construction zone last Wednesday. After pulling him over, police smelled alcohol on Moreno, and he "did poorly" in sobriety tests. The Bentley's license plate was personalized and read "SAUCED." |

Home: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions Away: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings looking at 8-8 at best |
Saints need to resign Brees and Carl Nicks imediately.. Colston and Meachum will be big losses on offense but should be replaceable.. I think Vilma will be gone and Dunbar will be the new starting MLB.. I love Vilma but we can keep Dunbar for a fraction of the price and he can play all LB positions, not just MLB.. I hope they resign Tracy Porter but I could see letting him go and getting a CB from the Rams or the Dolphins since that's where out DC and new DB coaches are from..
Most important is signing Brees, Nicks, and Dunbar then go from there.. |
And get Peyton Manning to come in and backup Brees..
:shifty: |
<font color=goldenrod>Not sure what the Saints' cap situation is but I think Carl Nicks might get one of, if not the largest offensive lineman contract of all time. That in addition to Brees getting an enormous deal as well. Wonder if they'll be able to afford both without anybody taking a hometown discount.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Looks like the Giants already took care of one of their 21 impending free agents, Steve Weatherford is about to sign a multi-year deal. Love that guy.</font>
|
Patriots top priority is resigning Welker because regardless of the critical drop, he's been the team's best offensive option since he arrived. After that the defense needs a lot more quality and depth in the secondary.
Probably also going to need to draft a ground pound style RB because while Green-Ellis is good, he's not a pure ground pounder for RB. Giants had the luxury of having a pounder and a bouncer for the SB game which helped their rushing attack a lot in the 2nd half. |
Patriots impending free agents: Receiver Wes Welker, defensive ends Mark Anderson and Andre Carter, receiver Deion Branch, running backs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Kevin Faulk, guard/center Dan Connolly, defensive linemen Gerard Warren and Shaun Ellis, linebacker Gary Guyton, returner/receiver Matt Slater, defensive backs James Ihedigbo, Antwaun Molden, and Nathan Jones, and linebackers Tracy White and Niko Koutouvides.
Wow that can be brutal for the Pats. |

The @Giants announce that TE Jake Ballard suffered a torn ACL in the Super Bowl 6 minutes ago Well, looks like we're going TE adrafting. |
<font color=goldenrod>Shit. At first they thought it was just a sprain too...wonder if he actually tore it while testing it out on the sidelines. He fell into a heap trying to cut.
No idea what the free agent market looks like for tight ends, but they're definitely going to have to sign and/or draft a new TE. Ballard and Beckum are locks for the PUP list at the least, who knows how long it'll take them to heal from there. At least Bear Pascoe has some extra job security.</font> |
Whatever they do, he must have an awesome midwest white guy name.
|
Not a huge fan of Ballards59. I hope they draft a nice black tight end

Thank you Giants for making Menounos pay off a bet:drool:

While Tebow politely chatted with many of the girls, one source told us that “he only seemed to have eyes” for brunette beauty Menounos, who was spotted “chatting to Tebow for over an hour. It looked quite flirtatious. They were taking pictures Tebowing together.” The two, along with a big group of friends, were the last to leave well after 2 a.m. BAM! |
Aw shit, Timmy gonna lay it down

Brandon Jacobs to reporters on Tom Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen: "She just needs to continue to stay cute and shut up." |
I have a feeling Kurt Warner doesn't like Eli Manning.
|
Wasn't he stuck with having to mentor him early in Eli's career?
|
Yeah I think. He's just said weird things. Like
"Eli first two seasons were the worst Quarterbacking I've ever seen." And now "Eli is not a Hall of Famer" You don't hear current Qb's say that stuff about each other. |
Eli can't hear Kurt over the sound of his deafening awesomeness.
|
<font color=goldenrod>The joke of it is that Warner's the one who agreed to sign with the Giants in the first place, what did he think was going to happen? They were a team in transition and were always going to bench him to get Eli some starts as soon as it became clear that they weren't going to be contenders.
It's one thing to say you don't think Eli's a HOFer yet, but the way he goes about it just makes it pretty obvious that he's bitter. Eli 2, Warner 1</font> |
Oh my god. If Peyton Manning goes to the Arizona Cardinals I'm going to find a way to stab myself with an actual Cardinal.
Peyton should stay out of the NFC West... unless he becomes a 9er. :shifty: |
would be a ripping good laugh if he went to Tennessee or Jacksonville
would also enjoy him as a Dolphin |
Well ESPN thinks Peyton most likely is staying in the AFC with a strong possibility of staying in the division (Indy, Tennessee) or returns to the AFC East (Miami, maybe the Jets).
Then again very unlikely the Jets would get him mainly due to the fanbase would trash him if he doesn't instantly bring results, comparing him to Eli now who is considered a lot better especially in the playoffs, and their recent habit of favoring trash talking instead of winning. They also managed to reward Santanio Holmes who essentially quit the team with an extra $7.5 million for next year ($15+ million overall). |
If Peyton signs with the Titans it would be the best marketing decision that club will ever make. Living in Knoxville, nobody gives a flying fuck about the Titans or the NFL in general for that matter. Those few that do follow the Colts simply for Peyton Manning. If he signed, the Tennessee Titans would actually start to get a following from the state and not just from Nashville.
|
Really? Everyone there likes college football I guess right
|
Yep. Most people here are pretty much anti-NFL because of its "lack of tradition and that it's too commercialised" apparently. Peyton Manning's the only thing that will catch their attention. I think I come across more NFL fans in Wales than I do here...
|
It was.the same way in NOLA and the Gulf South until the Saints started winning.. I'm sure intrest picks up during good seasons..
|
You heard it here first. Kris P Lettus says SEC fans are bandwagoners.
|
I wonder how many Saints fans have Aaron Brooks jerseys?
|
Or Jeff Blake

<font color=goldenrod>So apparently here's the list of the Giants' impending free agents. Since I'm bored I'm gonna go through them.
T Stacy Andrews: You gotta have a veteran backup OL on the roster and the Giants have used the extra blocker jumbo package quite a bit. Whether it's Andrews or someone else there are no shortage of vets who fill the same need and can be brought in for 1 year. TE Jake Ballard -- ERFA: Apparently ERFA means you get a 3 year deal from your old team for the veteran minimum. With the Giants' cap issues, veteran minimum is always a good thing. Ballard is definitely worth keeping around even though he will miss a large chunk (if not all) of the 2012 season. DT Rocky Bernard: He's nothing special but I doubt he's looking for a lot of money at this point in his career and would probably take a cheap 1 year deal to come back to the defending champs. If that's the case I'd bring him in for depth. LB Chase Blackburn: Mentioned it earlier but the Giants have a serious logjam going on at the LB position. He'd be a great guy to bring back but I'd expect him to get a lot of interest from other teams. PR/DB Will Blackmon: Meh. This guy did basically nothing for the return game the last 2 years and isn't even really good enough to warrant backup playing time on defense. He can go. QB David Carr: The season's over if Eli gets hurt anyway, but you gotta have a backup QB. Carr already knows the playbook and Coughlin prefers a veteran reserve option rather than somebody like Ryan "on and off the practice squad every week" Perriloux. If Carr leaves look for some cheap free agent vet to be brought in. WR Michael Clayton: Manningham's probably a goner so bringing him back in to compete for a backup job wouldn't be a big deal. CB Michael Coe: This guy pretty much sucked and I don't think he would have even made the final roster last year were it not for any of the injuries. No great loss. LB Jonathan Goff: Touched up on this already but his injury works in the Giants favor. He'll probably have to take a cheap deal to prove himself. Should re-claim the starting MLB job especially if Blackburn goes elsewhere. S Deon Grant: Decent player, but he's probably gotta take a really inexpensive deal (theme of the off-season) if he wants to come back. Wouldn't be surprise if he retired after finally getting a ring. KR/WR Domenik Hixon: It sounds like he wants to play despite 2 torn ACLs in 2 years. If he wants to give it a go I think the Giants should give him a shot in pre-season. If he even remotely resembles the player he was, he'd automatically be the best return man they have. CB Bruce Johnson -- ERFA: Forgot all about him since his injury happened so early on in the year. Veteran minimum salary and he's better than guys like Coe and Blackmon, so I'd bring him back. DT Jimmy Kennedy: See Bernard, Rocky. WR Mario Manningham: He had a pretty crappy regular season but his postseason performance and amazing SB catch probably guaranteed he'll get good money elsewhere. I can't see the Giants putting up big bucks for him especially since Nicks is gonna get a huge deal soon, so he's a goner. If nothing else his place in Giants lore is secure. S Derrick Martin: I seem to remember a ton of ST penalties from this guy. He's not gonna make a lot of money either way so he'd be an extra body competing in pre-season if anything else. T Kareem McKenzie: The more I think about it, the more I think he's gonna be gone. I have no doubt another team will offer him more and he's probably too old to justify it. Beatty, Brewer, or a draft pick will probably fill in instead. TE/FB Bear Pascoe -- RFA: Don't think another team will try to sign him and really the Giants have no choice but to bring him back anyway. Decent role player and an awesome name. CB Aaron Ross: He works way better when he's not starting. I really have no idea what the interest level from other teams will be though, so this is really a toss up. Prince Amukamara being healthy from the get go next year would relegate him to a #4 CB so I'd say he's likely gone. KR/WR Devin Thomas: Worth bringing back. The guy was a good special teams contributor, and I'll take that from a #4-5 WR any day of the week. CB Terrell Thomas: Same thing with Goff, should be had for cheap. Huge, huge boost for the secondary and the fact that he'll probably be had at a great price makes it all the better. DE Dave Tollefson: Love this guy and would love to have him back. I think he'll finally get a pay raise from somewhere else though and would get a lot more playing time on a team that wasn't loaded on D-line depth as is. DB Justin Tryon: Didn't get much of a chance to play before his injury. Probably worth another pre-season look. He's gotta be better than the Coes and Blackmons of the world. T Tony Ugoh: See Andrews, Stacy. P Steve Weatherford: Weatherford is the fucking man and kept getting better as the year went on. Definitely gotta give him a multi-year deal and lock up the punting position for the forseeable future.</font> |

Another guy to take into consideration (who I had totally forgot about) is Chad Jones. Sounds like he might actually be ready to play after his horrific 2010 accident.</font> |
Cruz wants to get paid, I say yes.
|
Yeah. They can't afford to eventually lose that guy. Pay him for sure.
|
<font color=goldenrod>With Manningham and probably Jacobs coming off the books, there should be money to give Cruz a decent increase. I could see his agent seeking something like what Jordy Nelson got from the Packers (3 years, $12 million). I don't know how much the Giants will be able to give this off-season though, since the cap situation is already a mess. They may give him a slight bump and promise him a bigger raise if he can prove he wasn't a one year wonder or something.
Nicks has 2 years left on his deal too, so the Giants probably want to lock him up too. The players have said that they want to keep the core of the team together, but with the cap situation the way it is the players will probably have to be willing to take a little bit less than they could get on the open market. Thankfully, JPP has said that he wants to play out his rookie contract (3 years left) and not further complicate the cap. Of course you have people like Fatcesa saying "no no no, you gotta lock him up now! they'll never be able to afford him when his deal is up. he'll turn into another Osi, it's all about the money for them, etc."</font> |
<font color=goldenrod>Sometimes I wonder what the NFL would be like if contracts were guaranteed like in MLB, where money-wise both sides have no choice but to honor it. There wouldn't be a need for holdouts anymore because the players wouldn't be able to be released and screwed out of most of their contract...
...and then I realized that if that were the case, LaVar Arrington would be entering the final year of his deal with the Giants even though in real life he's been retired for 5 years.</font> :o |
|
<font color=goldenrod>Bucs hire Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan as their offensive coordinator.</font>
|
Steelers announce they probably won't be keeping Hines Ward for next season although Ward is willing to take a pay cut if it means he can stay. Ward wants to retire as a Steeler but not until his current contract (2 years left) is done.
Pat's Gronk had surgery on his ankle which will take about 10 weeks to heal. He was considering just resting the ankle but ended up listening to doctor's advice for the surgery now than potentially later. Vikings hinted they will reject the current stadium proposal from the city of Minneapolis due to the stipulation requiring some of the funding to be done with the revenues generated from ticket and other game-related sales. The amount ends up being around $20 million per year for 30 years with the Vikings unwilling to pay that amount nor have a lease lasting that long. |
I love how when a team wins the Super Bowl suddenly all their coaches are qualified for higher positions.
|
<font color=goldenrod>It's a lot different from SB 42, where the Giants blocked a bunch of their assistants from trying to leave. They didn't let defensive backs coach Peter Giunta interview for a D-coordinator job so he's been stuck on the Giants since and he never got another chance.
Old QB coach Chris Palmer was also banned from interviewing from an offensive coordinator job so he fake retired to get out of his contract and spent a year in the UFL before becoming the Titans offensive coordinator.</font> |
Wasn't Peter Giunta a DC with the Chiefs once upon a time?
|
Wonder who will take a chance on 35 year old Randy Moss for next season.

Looks like Stevie Johnson is going to hit the Free Agent market...Fucking Bills arent even returning his agents calls....sigh.
