ron the dial 01-15-2015 06:19 PM

i haven't watched it yet. the network was being a dick last night, and kept saying something about invalid media so i just gave up until tonight.

SPOILER: show

Episode airing January 21, 2015
Announcers: Jason Albert, Rich Brennan, Corey Graves

Before the opening video, William Regal appeared on screen to announce that the next Takeover special would be on Wednesday, February 11th and that we will have a tournament to crown a new number one contender. He also announced that tonight we will see Charlotte vs Sasha Banks, as a result of Sasha's victory in the tag match last week.

Match 1:
- Sami Zayn vs. Tye Dillinger.
This was a non-match.
Zayn immediately jumped Dillinger and tossed him out of the ring. He then grabbed a mic to call out Owens. Instead, William Regal came out. Zayn stated that he refuses to wrestle any matches until he gets a match with Owens. Regal said that he won't reward Owens behavior with a title match, but will make a non-title match of Zayn vs Owens for Takeover.

Match 2:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament First Round Match: Curtis Axel vs. Finn Bálor
Bálor won with the double stomp.

Match 3:
- NXT Women's Championship Match: Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks w/ Becky Lynch
Charlotte won by DQ when Lynch attacked her only a few minutes into the bout.
Bayley ran down to make the save. As Bayley was holding the Women's Championship, Charlotte snatched it from her hands. This led to Bayley laying her out with a Belly to Bayley. Regal then came to the stage and announced a Fatal Four Way for the Women's Championship at Takeover between Charlotte, Bayley, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.

Match 4:
- Vaudevillians vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy
Blake defeated English by pinfall. Before the pin, Blake did a schoolboy on English near the ropes directly into an enziguri from Murphy, who was on the floor.

Match 5:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament First Round Match: Tyler Breeze vs. Hideo Itami
Itami won by pinfall following a sequence of the KENTA combo, 3 Roundhouse Kicks, a Corner Hesitation Dropkick and a Running Single Leg Dropkick.

Episode airing January 28, 2015
Announcers: Jason Albert, Tom Phillips, Alex Riley

A video package on Owens was aired. This may have just been for the live crowd, I'm unsure.

Match 1:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament First Round Match: Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd
Neville won with the Red Arrow.
After the match, Neville was interviewed in the ring. He was asked how he feels about his second round match being against the winner of Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey. Neville said he is not afraid of facing either man, as he was the longest NXT champ and vowed to regain it again.

Match 2:
- Charlotte and Bayley vs. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch
No Contest.
Charlotte and Bayley got into a fight after Bayley accidentally hit Charlotte when breaking up a pinfall. Banks and Lynch then attacked both of them, leading to the ref losing control and throwing the match out. A bunch of refs came down to break up the fight.

Match 3:
- NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Lucha Dragons (C) vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy
Blake defeated Kalisto with a reverse jackknife pin. Blake had tagged into the match behind Kalisto's back and grabbed the pin immediately after Kalisto hit the S.D.S. on Murphy.

Match 4:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament First Round Match: Bull Dempsey vs. Baron Corbin
Corbin won with the End of Days in a quick match where he was in control for most of it.

Regal held a contract signing for Zayn and Owens' match at Takeover. In order to ensure that the signing didn't end up like every other WWE contract signing, Regal stipulated that the match would be cancelled if either man laid hands on the other. Owens wouldn't speak, so Zayn signed right away and then cut a promo about him and Owens' past. He spoke about how they traveled up and down the roads for 12 years, both teaming up and fighting against each other. Zayn said that in retrospect, he should have seen it coming. However, all the battles they went through was with the end of goal of "making it here". So, he never expected Owens to betray him on the night when both of them "finally made it". Owens refused to sign the contract because it was non-title. Regal reiterated that he would not reward Owens with a title shot, but Zayn and the crowd convinced him to make the change. After signing, Kevin threw the pen in Zayn's face to taunt him. Owens walked away as Regal stopped Zayn from attacking him.

Episode airing February 04, 2015
Announcers: Cory Graves, Rich Brennan, Alex Riley

Match 1:
- Carmella w/ Enzo and Big Cass vs. Emma
Carmella won with her Leg Headscissors submission.

Match 2:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament Semi-Finals Match: Adrian Neville vs. Baron Corbin
Neville won with the Red Arrow. At the end of the match, Bull Dempsey snuck out to ringside and tossed Corbin into the ring post, behind the ref's and Neville backs. Corbin was able to make it back into the ring before the 10 count, but Neville took control and soon hit the Red Arrow for the victory.

Match 3:
- Bayley vs. Becky Lynch
Bayley won with the Belly to Bayley.
Sasha Banks came down to ringside mid-match. Bayley was able to hit the Belly to Bayley following Banks rolling Lynch in the ring from the outside. After the match, Lynch and Banks got into an argument which resulted in Lynch shoving Sasha down to the mat. The segment ended with Charlotte's music hitting, her coming to the stage and all 4 of them having a stare down.

Match 4:
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament Semi-Finals Match: Finn Bálor vs. Hideo Itami
Bálor won with the double stomp.
Before the match, Adrian Neville joined the commentary team.
After the match, both men embraced in the ring and the show ended with Neville shaking Bálor's hand on the stage.

Dark Match Main Event
- Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd and Kevin Owens
No contest.
The ref threw out that match when Owens attacked Zayn, following a pinfall attempt by Zayn on Kidd. Owens then laid Zayn out with his pop-up powerbomb and the show ended with Owens standing over Zayn, taunting the crowd.

Line-up for Takeover on February 11th:
- NXT Championship: Sami Zayn (C) vs. Kevin Owens
- NXT Women's Championship: Charlotte (C) vs. Bayley vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks
- NXT #1 Contender's Tournament Semi-Finals Match: Adrian Neville vs. Finn Bálor

What Would Kevin Do? 01-16-2015 08:24 PM

Ugh... SO NXT is touring... First tour show is in Columbus on March 5th... It's about an hour and 45 minute drive. I should probably go right?

VSG 01-16-2015 08:54 PM

Oh snap, hopefully they come by Houston. Where did you see the tour dates?

What Would Kevin Do? 01-16-2015 10:17 PM

There aren't official "tour dates." This is like a one off, but the rumor is that it is a practice run as they are planning on doing another on the road show during WM weekend, and then having more after that.

I would.

Lock Jaw 01-16-2015 11:29 PM

Just caught up with four weeks of NXT. Good stuff.

Finn Balor continues to win me over. Liked his match with Tyson. Still really hate the double-stomp move in general, though, no mater who is using it.

Not a fan of Hideo Itami yet, though.... dunno... supposed to have "devastating" kicks and whatnot, but there are like a dozen guys who do more impressive kicks than him. He also hasn't shown me a ton of charisma. I dunno. All I think when he is out there is "Tajiri was way better than this".

Emperor Smeat 01-17-2015 12:04 AM

Problem with Itami is that his war chest of moves got gutted badly in the WWE either because other guys use them (ex. GTS, Knee that beat John Cena, Kimura Lock, etc), nobody wants to take them (ex. most of his kick types), or banned as regular moves (ex. Crossface). Even his double stomp was given to Balor for finisher status (Balor did the same move in New Japan though).

Combine that with him struggling getting used to the WWE is why he's very likely staying in NXT a lot longer than expected.

Lock Jaw 01-17-2015 12:09 AM

I think part of the problem with Hideo Itami is Finn Balor. Hideo came in with all this hype, and then he brings in backup--which at least in NXT, has about 1000x time the presence and charisma he does. That blew up a lot of his momentum.

When Hideo debuted initially, he was treated like a star. As soon as he was paired up with Balor, Balor has such a "big fucking deal" factor, that Hideo seemed like less of a star in comparison.

Now that they've separated again, I think it'll get better. He does definitely have a problem like Smelly Meatball said with his move set. A lot of his stuff is off the table and it's a different style. That's going to take some time to get used to.

Neither man has had a lot of opponents in singles matches, but Balor's definitely gotten the better draw for their type of style in a couple of matches with Tyson Kidd. Hideo had Justin Gabriel early on, but that was only after a couple of weeks, which means basically no time for an adjustment yet.

I think of the two, Finn Balor is going to make it further, but Hideo can go a long way too, he just had the misfortune of debuting alongside the wrong guy at the wrong time.

XL 01-17-2015 05:22 PM

Dark One hitting the nail on the head there when it comes to the unfavourable Itami/Balor comparison.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-17-2015 06:06 PM

It's because Balor can speak clearly in English along with the other things that make him a great superstar. The war paint thing is the icing on the cake. He's ready to jump to the WWE roster. He should go as soon as possible so he can be separated from Itami and the comparison between them can close.

It can become better if Itami becomes the guy that WWE stars visit to see if they can beat. It's already started with Curtis Axel. Axel can be considered a big deal opponent by being a former tag team and IC Champion. Not sure if that's what they are doing brining in Axel or if its just to give Axel some time to develop again. Itami also has to work on developing his English or maybe he can get a face manager to be a talking piece for the time being.

Hideo Itami can win back ownership of his moves by simply doing them once instead of constantly teasing them. The cross-face technically isn't banned as Triple H has done it and others before him.

Pretty sure Itama's "cross face" is actually the YES Lock. So he can't do it.

Give him the KENTA combo and GTS. Just don't stick him with that lame ass spin kick to a kneeling opponent. It looks awful.

VSG 01-17-2015 08:16 PM

Give him back the GTS and the rough kicks, there are plenty of guys who can take it and give it back too while he figures out a good middle ground between too hard and too soft for the main roster.

He could have a story about how he is sick of people using his moves and getting over on his back. He could snap and hit somebody with the GTS, Knee Plus or whatever else they have stolen from him.

Lock Jaw 01-18-2015 03:02 AM

Even with a "limited moveset", he should still be able to not make his kicks look weak, and also exhibit some charisma no matter what language he is fluent in.

Exact same feelings..... I don't see him going anywhere, just a "Yoshi Tatsu 2.0".... Balor on the flip side seems to have much more potential.....

He's spent over ten years laying his kicks in. This among others is why he's down in NXT before going to the main roster. He'd be another Sin Cara if he didn't come to NXT first.

Mr. Nerfect 01-19-2015 01:06 PM

I would let Itami use the GTS and the Busaiku Knee. The NXT crowd pops for it whenever he teases it. Why not have commentary put him over as the innovators of each? Link him in people's minds as almost an inspiration to guys that have already "made it."

Finn Balor has got that "Superstar" vibe and his "special match" intros give hima "big deal" vibe. As weird as this sounds, I could see him as a shock winner of the 2016 Royal Rumble. Quick pushes have happened in the past, and NXT gives the WWE a chance to view what will work and what will not (although they don't often know how to adapt guys). Could see Cena vs. Balor as a weird sort of main event at WrestleMania, surrounded by other huge matches -- like (use your imagination), Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar, if the "timing" feels right for Austin. Dunno. Could definitely see Balor in a big spot at that PPV, anyway.

Nicky Fives 01-23-2015 03:28 PM

so who is the new backstage interview dude that interviewed Kevin Owens backstage in this week's episode?

ron the dial 01-23-2015 03:29 PM

i've been calling him Turd Boy, but i'm not sure if that's official.

Nicky Fives 01-23-2015 03:45 PM

He looks like a scrawny, non-red faced Brother Love.....

Punchable.
