History of the Cage

Okay some I'm looking for some answers.

I bought the WWE Steele Cage DVD and on the DVD is Luger vs Flair Capital Combat '90, in the match it's a shitty bar cage. The cage is weak and pussy like, but it surrounds the ring like Hell in a Cell with an inclined top instead of a total cover.

It sucks.

WCW either used the same cage years later in 97 with Roddy and Hogan or made a new shitty one much the same way, either way it sucked.

My question was the the first cage which surrounded the ring like Hell in a Cell? My instincts tell me WCW stole the idea from the innovative WCCW but I don't know for sure.

Is the first time WWE used a giant cage like this Hell in a Cell 97? Or did the even try it out on a house show or what have you?

I know the history of the cage, the chicken wire etc... but who was the very first to use the giant HIAC like cage? Also why did WCW have this shitty cage match at Capital Combat only to end in bullshit D/Q? My smarts tell me it was so that infact they could raise the cage (as The Horsemen did) and interfere to cause a DQ, for the non finish with Luger/Flair.

By god were Lugers good qualities on par with his bad.

Also, on the DVD they show Michael/Janetty cage match in White Plains NY. It's funny when HBK does a headlock/sleeper rest and ref. Bill Alfonzo goes into the ring to lift Janetty's hand in a match that was heavily advertised by the announcers as an escape only finish. Was this a fuck up of Bill Alfonzo (I think it was) or the booking of the match.

BTW what a shit match for HBK and Marty, that match fucking sucked. And LOL at Johnny Polo being like "HBK LOOKS PUDGY", at that moment in HBK's career he was so done with WWE (as documented) and what a shit show he put on to display his bitch ass attitude. It really made me like him less and any story or video I have seen of him before. And yes he was my childhood favorite wrestler, but right now I just wanna see Bret Hart beat his ass!

If I had to guess, I'd say War Games was the first cage with a top.

I remember a cage match with Austin Idol vs Jerry Lawler in Memphis 1987 that was a Hair vs Hair Loser Leaves Town match that took place inside a cage that was surrounding the ring rather than being attached to it. It was chain link cage that was twice the height of a normal cage of that era. Other than that, I dont believe there was another cage match where the cage wasnt attached to the ring corners. I'll try and find the match im talking about on youtube.

The UWF in the mid 80s also used a cage that surrounded the ring...but only gave a foot or so of room between the ring and the cage. It was also made out of bars like WCW's Thundercage instead of the chainlink fence.

Goddamn wrestling has had no new ideas since the 70's.

Am I fucking nuts or did Lawler come up with the most edgy shit in wrestling first? Like in general not just with the cage, his angles in Memphis were amazingly personal and got over like rover.

Sounds like Fragile X has spent too long in DLVH and Seth82 threads.

Actually, two of the first wrestlers known for Cage matches were Fred Blassie and The Original Shiek, back in the '60s, I want to say.

Maybe, but I doubt it.
