Favorite personal Video Game moment?

What is the most awesome thing you've ever experienced in a Video Game, either as a scene, a storyline point, accomplishment, or something ridiculous in-game.

mine is tied.

WCW/nWo Revenge: One time, I was wrestling as Chris Jericho, and I faced Goldberg. I pinned Goldberg using his taunt pin. It was glorious.

Road Rash (I think 2): Not really winning a race or anything like that, but one time, I kicked a cop into the path of a truck. My reaction was "HOLY SHIT! THAT WAS AWESOME!!! BEST GAME EVAR!!!!!"

screech 07-25-2014 08:44 PM

Winning the survival mode in No Mercy by eliminating everyone was pretty sweet.

Also finally conquering Legacy of the Wizard was great. Took such a long time to navigate that one.

screech 07-25-2014 08:48 PM

Like, literally took years. Partly because my NES was out of commission for a while, but still.

screech 07-25-2014 08:54 PM

One time while playing GTA vice city, I was motorcycling about the land. I guess I hit something on the ground, because I flew off the bike "randomly." Landed a few feet away, but the bike kept going. It rode up and took a hooker's head clean off her shoulders.

Not really an accomplishment, but 2006-me thought it was the funniest thing ever. This seemed like a good place to share it.

End boss of Super Metroid will probably always stick out the most for me. Was actually sad that the metroid died, but immediately got gratification from bouncing Mother Brain's big fat stupid head off the wall with my powered up laser beam.

Too many local multiplayer moments to count.

First time I beat a robot master in a mega man game, I woke my parents up at 6am on a Saturday to tell them I beat Flash man. They didn't seem that impressed for some reason.

JimmyMess 07-25-2014 11:06 PM

Donkey Kong Country for SNES when you beat K Rool... and the game fakes the ending, and then you actually beat him.

First time it tricked me and he killed me, I'm pretty sure I cried.

Then I got it.

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 12:13 AM

King K Rool fight best music ever

Lock Jaw 07-26-2014 12:23 AM

Yeah... beating Super Metroid was a big event.... took me years... was before I knew "walkthroughs" existed.... not sure if we even had the internet yet anyways....

But I'd get stuck, frustrated, put the game away for months.... then pick it up again and then maybe make a huge breakthrough before getting stuck again....

Lock Jaw 07-26-2014 12:28 AM

Also, the first time I played WCW/nWo World Tour was pretty sweet as well.... remember playing it at a friend's house... I was Sting and he was Eric Bischoff and we had an epic 60 minute match that we taped via VHS.

Sepholio 07-26-2014 02:46 AM

FF7 scene were Aeris died was freaking awesome.

Beating Super Metroid, as others have said, was a huge accomplishment.

First time I played Super Mario 64. Also finally getting that last star and getting to the top of the castle.

First time playing FFX on PS2. The graphics were mind boggling.

The ending of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, though. That was epic stuff.

I'd say the best though would be finally getting up the nerve to play through Ravenholm on Half-life 2. I got there and it was just so creepy, and I would try to play through and end up freaking out like DUDE NO WAI. When I finally did it it was total awesomesauce.

Fignuts 07-26-2014 04:08 AM

Oh jesus, Ravenholm.

Legit gave me a nightmare after going to bed.

There was a game by EA called The Majestic that didn't last long. Played in college. It was a "puzzle" game that would interact with you in real life. You would get AIM's, phone calls, e-mails, etc. Crazy shit but really fun.

First phone call from that game happened around 3AM one morning and I was told to stop pursuing what I was doing. Couldn't tell they were recorded calls the first couple of calls.

Beating Zelda Ocarina of Time was pretty damn memorable. Lotsa moments, can't recall them all

The "All your base are belong to us" mistranslation or misinterpretation from Zero Wing.

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:04 PM

I have far too many that have been pushed into the recesses of my mind to vividly recall, but off the top of my head a few that stand out to me...

Beating SMB with my pops, I remember he jumped up and touched the ceiling of our living room. Good shit. After we beat that we bought SMB3 and I remember pouring a ton more hours into that than he did. Think he got tired of video games early on. I do remember he would come home from work with tips from coworkers on how to beat certain areas of TMNT though, lol was good times

Like a ton of others, Super Metroid had a special place in my heart. I played Legend of Zelda and all before then, but S. Metroid was the first game that really catered to the "exploration" part of my brain (I was late and didn't play the original Metroid until after). I just remember so many of the areas so vividly. The first time you walk through that tube to Maridia, using a Power Bomb (GUTWRENCH) to crack the glass, and the eery calm music. The feeling of just having no guidance or narrative and being literally ALONE on this foreign planet. Trying to find your way through obstacles. So many moments in that game. I played the shit outta that game so much, was able to 100% it in under 3 hours without using any shitty ass walkthroughs or guides. Possibly the moment of my gaming peak.

Related to that, the first time I played Metroid Prime was awesome. Really amazing take on the genre, and again it captured the exploration feel and loneliness perfectly.

First time I played Fallout 3, when you get out of Vault 101... fuck. I've played the original Fallout and Fallout 2 lots of times, so I was familiar with the IP, but that moment when you leave the fault then you can literally do ANYTHING in this totally hostile open uninhabited world was just overwhelming. To this day, FO3 is still my favourite "post-apocalyptic" form of media because I feel it just really captures what that entire genre is trying to create. The first time you encounter the Super Mutant Behemoth... holy shit.

I remember when N64 came out and my one buddy was the only one that had it. We'd all go there and play Mario 64 and I remember being so determined to be good at this game. Could never perform wall kicks for months until I eventually had my own.

Keeping on N64, the Christmas of '98 EVERYBODY got Ocarina of Time. I mean... Christ you could make a full thread just on the amount of awesome moments from playing that game. I know it's cliche but honestly, is there a better all-around game (when you factor in the context of when it was released, to compensate for dated graphics etc) than OoT? Fantastic fantastic fantastic.

The first time I played the last level of Doom 2. That giant fucking demon goat head on the wall where you had to shoot rockets into its brain. Terrifying. Loved it. Doom 2 in general was one of my first games I played. Wolfenstein 3D introduced me to the FPS genre and Doom 2 was the best. Duke Nukem 3D, the Quake games, Unreal Tournament etc cemented that love for FPS, though it's died down in recent years. That fucking last level of Doom 2 though, damn.

The first time entering Zeal in Chrono Trigger. Amazing. The combination of the Utopian oasis palace combined with the absolutely stunningly perfect soundtrack and the dark foreshadowing of the sinister evil with it all... like FO3 for me, this moment in the game perfectly captured the idea of what it's like to have a Utopian society (that eventually meets its demise), and every other movie/game/etc that tries to convey this idea pales in comparison to Zeal. Honestly though that Zeal theme is fucking epic.

The transition from World of Balance to World of Ruin in FF6. I rented FF6 from Blockbuster proibably like 12 times before I was able to beat the World of Balance portion of the game, and I remember it being like some giant mental block being lifted. To see my efforts culminate in the destruction of this beautiful world was staggering. Kefka was a crazy heel. Beating the game itself wasn't as significant to me as getting over that hurdle and seeing most of my adolescent gaming years crumble and fall into the ocean because of those fucking magic statues.

Christmas '97, my buddy got Final Fantasy 7 and it was like holy shit THIS GAME IS BADASS!!! I remember him and his brother and mom were at our house for Christmas that year (recently divorced etc) so they opened their presents and got the Playstation and FF7. We immediately started playing but had no memory cards so w/e just fucking rocked some Midgar reactors for naught but hot damn. Barrett all cursing and shit and this whole industrial look on everything just blew me away. The moment when you see that big fucking snake in that swamp, then go to that one cave and see the giant one impaled from Sephiroth... chills.

Lots of WoW memories that I won't get into, but I remember being down in Oklahoma (most of my guild were OSU students who lived in a townhouse together, and I was visiting) and our first Ragnaros kill was pretty fucking awesome. Just seeing everyone come together and accomplish it was boss hog. Tons of other WoW memories but that one sticks out for me the most.

Tons of others but I am typing too much crap

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:05 PM

Most of that is personal memories as opposed to actual in-game moments that blew me away, but w/e... same shit...

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:06 PM

Oh and, The Last of Us (game still fairly recent so I'll spoiler tag it):

SPOILER: show
That opening sequence. When you're Joel and getting away from the town and that fucking mall cop shoots your daughter. FUCK. That one legit got to me.

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:08 PM

Ohhh shit lots of Earthbound memories too. When you're fighting in the desert place (Scaraba?) and Poo comes down with Starstorm and fucks Master Barf up... FUCK YEAH

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:19 PM

Warcraft III when Arthas turns heel on his dad

road doggy dogg 07-26-2014 01:20 PM

Ohhh then the Arthas/Illidan showdown, then Arthas becomes the KING OF (lich) KINGS

Emperor Smeat 07-26-2014 05:59 PM

Beating the original legend of Zelda mainly because that was the first game I ever beat or remember beating first.

WWF Attitude - Mankind vs Rock, Best 2 out of 3 Falls. Was playing against a cousin and still was the best match I ever played in a wrestling game. Took around 45 minutes to finish and a ton of close calls.

Goofing off playing grenade basketball in Counter Strike although forgot which map had the hoops. A different cousin was testing out a server he owned at the time and didn't want actual matches to be played since it would mess up some of the things he was testing out.

That bombing the glass part I remember was a part where I had gotten stuck for a long time.... was just wandering around the planet no idea where to go or what to do.....

Finally after months of not playing it because I just had no idea what to do... went back and somehow ended up breaking that glass and I was like "Holy s**t!!"

Finding Starland and beating Rainbow Road in Super Mario World.

Lock Jaw 07-27-2014 08:40 PM

I remember downloading a demo of FF8 for PC.... and playing the hell out of it and being blown away by the graphics and cutscenes. Just seemed like such a far leap from FF7 graphics-wise and I was like "Whoaaaaaa"

Jura 07-27-2014 10:39 PM

It was the same for me except it was the FF7 demo and the comparative being FF6 to FF7.

Fuck that. Fuck that right in the ass. That whole level made me want to throw TMNT through the window when I was like 5 or 6. First level in a game that really made me lose my mind. Then I met the Battletoads and all was forgiven.

Yeah I remember that. I also remember finally beating all the levels and still scouring the game for that one more secret that never really existed. Couldn't accept that it was over. That game was one of the greatest games of all time.

I was in awe at the gap from 6 to 7, and then the gap from 7 to 8 almost as much. 9 was kinda meh, but then the leap from that to 10 was like OMGWTFBBQSAWCE!

You beat Legacy of the Wizard? I had figured out you could use the invincible dragon-dog to find the first crown, found 2 and 3 via Nintendo Power, Gamepro, and a magnifying glass, and stumbled into the last one... I don't remember how. But I could never figure out how I could get Rohas to the dragon, since he was the only one who could use the sword, but he sucked at everything. I chalked that up as a wasted Saturday and gave up.

Memorable *in game* experience was Metal Gear Solid's fight with Psycho Mantis... not so much the 4th wall break, but the subsequent fight. I actually beat him before I learned about switching controller ports. I used up pretty much all weapons (mostly the FAMAS- I would fan spray so that when he strafed, at least ONE bullet would hit him), and it took several tries, but I got the bastard. Wasn't until my second playthrough I learned about the port switch.

Memorable *gameplay* moment comes from Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. Yes, it was a pretty shitty, generic, and simplistic game, but it was the only full out game I ever remember seeing my mom play hardcore. And beat. Imagine walking into your house after school and seeing a parent who doesn't really play video games not only playing something other than Tetris, but about to head up to the final boss with no help. I thought it was pretty fucking cool.

road doggy dogg 07-28-2014 08:42 AM

Each crown was intended to be obtained by a different character... the monster dog had an area where he could waltz through enemies, the daughter had that one crown right near beginning that you had to use that jump item that looked like a hamburger to reach, had to use the unlimited key item for the mom and her crossbow, and the dad had his glove and bushy beard... I never beat the game on the cartridge because I think my cartridge is at my parents' still but I beat it on an emulator... which is funny because the ROM is glitched so when you engage the dragon finally you just instantly die. Sad news.

DaveBrawl 07-28-2014 08:43 AM

I know there are so many, but only 2 stick out right now.

WWF Warzone - My best friend and I had an amazing match between Bret Hart and HBK, so many close falls and both were down to no life. I went to run in for a Hart Attack so I could lock on the Sharpshooter, but he landed a drop kick and got the pin. Wanted to be furious as that was supposed to be vengeance for Montreal but it was such an awesome match we were just so happy.

Gears of War 1-3 - Just playing the entire series with my brother, it was probably the last time we will ever sit down and play a whole series of games together like that as he moved away some time between playing 2 and 3 and we would play 3 in bursts when he came back around. Especially with the whole brothers theme of GOW3...I know it's a few years old now, but still
SPOILER: show
when Dom dies it took a lot of the Thunder out of the whole experience for us. We just kind of wanted to quit especially since he was Josh's character throughout the series. We just kind of went through the motions to complete the last 1/3 of the game, but the whole series was a great bonding experience.

The Mask 07-28-2014 10:50 AM

Me and my brother had some awesome matches on no mercy. The one that stands out was a last man standing match between two of our CAFs (dunno if there was a last man standing setting or if we had just set it to TKO). Anyway, it was a really insane back and forth match and the game seemed to let us go on a lot longer than normal, there were all last rides and dominators everywhere and there were so many times where the match would normally have been over where our guys crawled to their feet instead of collapsing, by the end it was so tense. I don't even remember who won now (think it was me) but man.

Jura 07-28-2014 11:58 AM

There was that one WCW game on N64 in which I just kept spearing the referee over and over.

Hanso Amore 07-28-2014 12:06 PM

Most of my stuff has been noted already

- Beating FF7 for the first time. I had been stuck on Sephiroth for a few weeks and finally went at him one night with a buddy. Just to show him the game. Was like in 8th grade. I think I couldnt beat it because I was too low level, and didnt have enough high level spells and weapons. That night I kept getting lucky, with people like surviving attacks with 1 health left instead od dying. Fought the boss for like 2 hours, jsut basically surviving for rounds at a time then doing a bit of damage. Then I beat him. Couldn't believe it I never thought I would when I sat down. Just sat there in shock!

- Castlevania Lord of Shadows - ending - Fucking great game, really underrated. Loved the whole story and then the last 15-20 minutes or so of the game plus end scene are fucking epic.

- Elder Scrolls - Any point where I become a member of the Dark brotherhood is so great.

-Everquest - Hitting Level 50, then 55, then 65 as the level caps increased. Took so much time, just leveling was an achievement back then

KOTOR - Turning Heel and embracing Darth Revan

WCW/NWO - Working tag matches with my brother and landing Frog Splash/Guillotine Leg Drops off the top at the same time on a guy

Lock Jaw 07-28-2014 12:08 PM

Not really a "personal" video game moment, but I was present....

First game system we got in the house was a SNES that was given to my oldest brother as a birthday gift....

I just remember him screaming "Super Nintendo! Super Nintendo!!" at the top of his lungs with his squeaky teen voice and finding it amusing. Vivid memory.

Taft 07-28-2014 06:32 PM

I have accidental moments a lot with my bro playing Street Fighter. other than that i'm lame
