If you were an MMA fighter
what would you rather happen?
|
I'd rather not fall out of consciousness.
|
Yeah, bad for you in general for one. And you look like a complete bitch, whereas a guy who goes the distance still jobs, but it takes a lot to put him away.
|
This is f'n retarded.. Pretty much asking is you'd rather be a human highlight reel or a tough bastard who couldn't put an opponent away..
Paul "The Wall" Carrington, stop posting stupid shit in here.. |
SICK THREAD!
I would rather get dominated the whole round me thinks. |
I don't want to get my ass kicked for 3 rounds.
|
Quick KO
|
Looking like a bitch for 10 seconds with the "everybody can get caught" line vs looking like a bitch for 15-25 minutes and having to say that you were obviously not as good as him and you could do nothing to beat him.... how is this a choice?
|
you'd learn from the longer fight though and walk away with ideas on where you needed to improve. if you got sparked out then all you'd learn is you need to keep your guard higher or something.
|
I would think you would get most of learning done in sparring before the fight, though.
|
what, no. if you were getting hammered like that in sparring you wouldn't be fighting. you'd lose the fight because someone was leagues ahead of you, so you might as well take what you can from the defeat and try and improve.

err. getting sparked out in 10 seconds doesn't make you a better fighter with less to improve on than a guy who gets hammered for 3 rounds though.

Think about it as a competitor, if you get KOed in 10s, you learned you can get caught and that probably wont happen again. If you get dominated, you take a huge hit to your ego. Its not always technique that gets you dominated. Thats the misconception. Sometimes that shit can haunt you mentally. Especially because theres no way you can say that you think you could have beaten the guy. |
well of course, that's my point. if you're sparring with really good guys and you feel like you're doing well and then you get absolutely schooled it means you have to step back and work on the holes in your game, which you might not have even known were there to begin with and thus you become a lot better fighter for the experience, as opposed to getting knocked out and saying "well, it can happen to anyone"
|
When you get caught, you have to think about correcting bad habits like keeping your eyes open, keeping your hooks high, hands up, working your range, etc.
When you get dominated you have to work on your toughness both mentally and physically, on top of what technical mistakes you make. You also have to completely change your game up because your shit doesnt work. WAY harder to do. |
Get destroyed in 10 seconds and then say "I tripped" over and over again.

you're approaching this like it's two different fighters at two different levels though. let's say some rocky like situation occurred and you got put into a one time only fight with brock lesnar, would you rather just get fucked up quick or go the full match and have the full experience and despite getting ruined have a bunch of shit to work on after to help you become a way better fighter than you are now? bearing in mind there's no shame in getting your arse handed to you by lesnar.

Yea if they pulled me off the street to fight lesnar i would like to make the entire time but if i was carwin, id rather have to come back from a qwicky than a domination. |
Look at all the really good fighters that get caught either by KO or submission off of one mistake and come back to never do it again and even DOMINATE others.
Liddel vs Horn, GSP huges 1 and GSP Serra 1, Lesnar Mir 1 |
I would chose option C which is me getting slapped in a arm bar, then fighting through the pain and refusing to tap. Which causes my opponent to snap my arm in half like a twig, and sending me to the ER. But hopefully my agent plays it just right so I then get the awesome nick name of Johnny "Lion Heart" McNasty.

and I would not want to get dominated by Brock for 25 minutes. You wouldnt feel right for weeks after that. |
Wow this thread turned into a good debate ... weird.
|
What sort of dominated are we talking here...like Jon Fitch/GSP dominated, where you come off looking like a tough sob, or Tito/Shamrock(1), where you're made to look the fool.
|
more along the lines of Jon Madsen vs Abe Wagner

I was thinking about a fight like that when I made the thread but without the huge gash.
|
Getting rocked in 10 seconds, that way I can try to say that he pulled my hair
Or you can be like Tito and say you got poked in the eye |
BDC would win by submission in the second. Duh.

theres always something with him
|
Or maybe it's because, he got poked in the fuckin eye.
Not Tito's fault your hero fights like a girl. |
whether tito got poked in the eye or not he always has some big excuse why he loses a specific match
|
If you get knocked out in the first ten seconds you can get away with saying that it was a fluke, but if you get dominated for an extended amount of time then the other guy has proved that he is legitimately better than you.

|
eh not really
|
it depends on how you "survive" and who you face, but if you are supposed to be at the same level of the guy your fighting, it is never good to be dominated
