Fallout 3/New Vegas on Steam Startup Issues

I can't for the fuckin life of me get these games to work right on start up. I have been reading the other forums all around the web and I had it going good a few years back, but my desktop PC has given me so much grief with this bullshit.

My trip back to the wasteland is slowly fading from me.

I wanted to do a full heel run on any of the two games, but I'm stuck at the screen just before the start menu.

I have fucked with the .ini or .uni files(sp?) and even did all the other shit.

I have a Quad-core processor and have tried the route of modifying the code to start in dual-core.

It sucks that I have this going on, I might have to repurchase this shit on console again.

I will hear out anything that isn't already on the other forums, or advice to just drop the piss and go play another game.

Update your graphics card drivers, maybe? If both games have broken then it's not anything with the configuration of just one, I assume

That may be what I did last time. I remember 2012 when I had both of them operational

Did you try running it directly from the steamapp folder in compatibility mode? Newer OS don't like New Vegas a whole lot.

I have Windows 7 and I've seen multiple ppl dedicate threads to this issue. I'll try that when I get home.

This is all stemming from me having to reinstall everything on my PC after getting a blue screen malfunction and losing all my settings

You want to make sure you have "games for windows live" installed. Need to get the standalone installer for it.
Also, try running it in compatability mode, and as administrator, you will need to do that from the directory c:\program files\steam\apps\common\fallout etc. That probably isn't right, but its like that, I cant remember.

Old news, Games for Windows Live is now discontinued and has been patched out on most things. Actually, that might be an issue now I think of it. FO3 had GFWL, NV doesn't.

I wish I could disable it. Fallout looks sooooo much better on PC
