UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Mir thread

was just inspired to start this now by the fact that Roy Nelson's just been announced to fight Bigfoot Silva on this card, adding to a bunch of other fights that I'm really looking forward too, including the title fight obvs, Mir/Cain, Mayhem/Dollaway, Hardy/Ludwig, Barboza/Dunham and more. Youth will meet experience at UFC 146, as promotion officials announced Wednesday that featherweights Mike Thomas Brown and Daniel Pineda will square off in an undercard attraction at the May 26 event.

Featuring an all-heavyweight main card, UFC 146 will be headlined by Junior dos Santos’ first defense of his heavyweight championship against Alistair Overeem at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Additionally, former champions Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez will collide to determine the next top contender in the division.

A former World Extreme Cagefighting titlist, Brown, 36, earned his first UFC victory in his most recent Octagon appearance, outpointing Nam Phan at UFC 133 this past August. The victory came on the heels of back-to-back losses for the American Top Team representative, as Brown dropped hard-fought decisions to Rani Yahya and Diego Nunes in January 2011. Known as one the division’s most powerful competitors, Brown holds notable career wins over Jeff Curran, Yves Edwards, Leonard Garcia and Urijah Faber.

Pineda, 26, was a two-division champion in the Texas-based Legacy Fighting Championship before receiving the call to join the UFC’s featherweight ranks. The Texan has not lost since May 2010, when he was submitted with a kneebar by Chas Skelly at Bellator 19. Since that time, Pineda has won seven consecutive fights, including his most recent outing at UFC on FX 2, in which he submitted Mackens Semerzier with a triangle armbar.

Heavyweight Championship: Junior Dos Santos (c) vs. Alistair Overeem
Heavyweight bout: Cain Velasquez vs. Frank Mir
Heavyweight bout: Antonio Silva vs. Roy Nelson
Heavyweight bout: Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve
Heavyweight bout: Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane del Rosario

Main card is pretty sick, hopefully Struve gets banged out.

Jura 03-15-2012 05:36 PM

Struve is probably gonna get banged out. Then his gf will get banged out too.

CSL 03-15-2012 05:48 PM

Pity Party Arnie 03-16-2012 05:10 PM

That's an incredible heavyweight card. I will be ordering this one for sure.

Next Big Thing 04-22-2012 07:47 PM

It's Big Foot Silva vs. Velasquez now. Velasquez is going to destroy dude.

Crimson 04-22-2012 07:57 PM

Who was Silva suppose to fight? Or is this his first ever matchup draw officially?

Crimson 04-22-2012 07:59 PM

Oh just read. Nelson is now without an opponent

That looks like a great fight.

Kris P Lettus 04-24-2012 05:47 PM

It will be good but not as good as Dos Santos/Overeem..

Krimzon7 04-25-2012 02:18 PM

Card saved...sorta

Jimmy King 05-03-2012 04:46 PM

overeem fucked this up

JDS is gonna ko Mir
Cain is gonna beat Big foot
Nelsons gonna win over herman
Shane Del rosario is gonna win over miocic
Mark Hunt will beat Struve
also want Mayhem to win

Next Big Thing 05-03-2012 04:59 PM

I'm calling it now: Mir will submit JDS.

Crimson 05-03-2012 08:39 PM

I can see Mir putting up a good fight..but I just cant see JDS tap. Unless he doesnt tap and just gets his arm broken or something, but not by him actually tapping.

Krimzon7 05-07-2012 08:55 AM

Trust me, if Mir gets a figure four on JDS's wrist....JDS WILL TAP. Nobody wants to be the next highlight appendage snapping on Mir's warpath. With that said, I pray that JDS puts Mir's chin in his forehead. We've never seen Junior in any form of trouble. or off his back or on the ground. THere are a lot of variables. Pfft I just wish Overeem was in this fight.

Kris P Lettus 05-07-2012 07:38 PM

Well, the more I've thought about this this more this makes sense.. Mir has KO'ed and subbed JDS' mentor and coach in Big Nog..

Mir has the skills to tap JDS but no one has been able to take him down and keep him on his back.. Most of Mir's success with BJJ has been off his back.. I really can't see JDS shooting on him for any reason so unless Mir pulls guard or rocks JDS and it goes to the ground, I see Dos Santos winning by KO/TKO..

(JDS could possibly rock Mir and while going in for the kill get an arm or leg caught, but I think this fight def favors the striker)

I love these Primetime & Countdown shows. Especially when it's people who aren't usually featured. Brilliant promotion.

MoFo 05-17-2012 08:25 PM

Mark Hunt is pulled due to injury and replaced by LAVAR "The Rock" JOHNSON

Hope this means Struve gets highlight reel KO'd :D

Crimson 05-17-2012 11:44 PM

lol damn these injuries. But good fight still..either way I guess Struve is getting ko'd

Krimzon7 05-18-2012 05:09 PM

Struve is getting Destroyed!

Stickman 05-20-2012 12:49 PM

Lavar "BIG" Johnson

p.s. prolly not gonna get this ppv.. It'll be a last minute decision on sat..

Crimson 05-24-2012 08:34 PM

Cant go wrong with mostly heavyweights. Hope not anyways

Jura 05-26-2012 07:52 PM

Get hyped.

Mr. JL 05-26-2012 09:21 PM

Fuckin' Mayhem Miller... let me down again

Jura 05-26-2012 11:24 PM

Silva has a weird body. His arms are skinny for a guy his height and weight.

Jura 05-26-2012 11:24 PM

Ridiculous amount of blood. Looks like a murder scene.

Savio 05-26-2012 11:44 PM

over the whole bud light symbol

Savio 05-27-2012 12:00 AM

Should have bet money against mir

Crimson 05-27-2012 01:52 AM

Good win for Cain. JDS looked good. Brock now might come back aparently..and Belfort is out with a broken hand against Wandy

Blitz 05-27-2012 04:17 AM

Oh my God@the bloody mess that was Bigfoot Silva. Can't believe it took Cain as long as it did to finish tbh.

Mir looked embarrassing. Ridiculously out of shape. One of my favourite finishes of any fight ever. JDS just killing him, lets him get up, Mir stumble like a drunk and JDS tags him once like "You dumb motherfucker".
