WWE has come terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch.

Watched NXT from the beggining to now. Really enjoy him in a comedy jobber kind of way.

Evil Vito 04-05-2017 02:16 PM

Can't say I blame Gotch for wanting out. It's been clear as day WWE lost faith in him after the Enzo injury.

He fought with Sin Cara too but I chalk that one up more on Cara given that he's had a history of fights with other talent dating back to his Hunico days.

The CyNick 04-05-2017 02:24 PM

That gimmick had a limited shelf life. This is a lesson for younger workers who are reading this. You can have a gimmick like that and make it work, but at some point there has to be an evolution to get to the next level. I never felt like these guys got that.

Evil Vito 04-05-2017 02:27 PM

I never thought the gimmick would work on the main roster.

To Gotch's credit though, he used the same gimmick on the indies under the name of Ryan Drago with success and he can now go back and use it again in proper fun matches as opposed to two minute squash matches. I'm sure he'll do fine for himself. He won't be making WWE level money but I'm sure he'll get regular bookings just like most ex-WWE guys do.

At 34 years old and barely being used, it was probably the right time for him to head out.

The CyNick 04-05-2017 02:56 PM

Yeah it just depends on your goals. Some guys are better suited for the Indy life. Other guys want to be worldwide stars. Good to understand your limitations early. I wish the guy well.

Is there any word that he is the one who asked for his release?

Everything I see just says WWE released him.

Heisenberg 04-05-2017 03:08 PM

omg eat me out

Evil Vito 04-05-2017 03:10 PM

It says "mutually agreed upon release" which makes me think he may have asked for it. They don't usually use that verbiage.

Given the relative lack of teams on SmackDown currently they probably would've kept them around as enhancement guys to put others over.

Aiden English seems like he'd be useful as a solo comedy heel act. I can see him going back to the singing gimmick he had in NXT. There is value in being a comedy heel.

Agreed, not sure WWE would pull a "spring cleaning" with the "superstar shakeup" and needing to stack the rosters.

Oh damn I didn't even read that... just assumed it was going to be the standard generic message they use

well that was nice of them to let him work mania before booting him

Destor 04-05-2017 03:27 PM

Lower card guy like gotch will usually see a steep increase in $ once they gt out of the company. Lower card guys are only seeing about 35k before travel expenses and Gotch clearly was moving up the card anytime soon.

Most guys ge about 2 years to get into one of the bigger markets before they lose the ability to move merch. Gotch probably a bit less.

You should be tweeting that to Roman Reigns although to be fair he doesn't enter from the crowd anymore so that's something I guess.

Cool King 04-05-2017 03:46 PM

Well, the news was a surprise but good luck to him.

With The Vaudevillains now finished, I'm slightly worried for Aiden English now. He was part of a jobber team with a gimmick that could only go so far. Now, his partner is gone and he's on his own.

If he sticks around on the main roster, either still using the same gimmick or getting a new one where he his just himself, I can't really see him being anything other than a jobber.

Maybe going back to NXT and debuting a new gimmick and working on it for a while will do him good and who knows, maybe this time next year he'll be re-debuting to a hot reaction?

Juan 04-05-2017 04:01 PM

Now is the time to move Jack Gallagher to SDL

Emperor Smeat 04-05-2017 04:12 PM

Best for both him and Aiden English. Gotch has a chance to be more productive on the indies now while Aiden English no longer gets dragged down because WWE soured on Gotch.

Unless WWE is really serious about Smackdown's tag division, they probably should trade a few teams to RAW and then disband the rest. RAW's done a better job with their tag division while Smackdown would get a boost by having more depth for their midcard.

Really think they should make a deal next week and trade the cruiserweights for the tag teams. Smackdown Tag teams barely get featured already and didn't even get defended at Wrestlemania or the Smackdown afterwards. Let the Hardys unify the titles and be exclusive to Raw. Cruiserweight probably wouldn't get two matches like on Raw but one on Smackdown should do.

That would be a really good trade considering 205 Live is on Tuesdays and it would cut back on the traveling the Cruisers have to do. Also gives both shows something exclusive to entice people to watch.

With The Vaudevillans now broken up, Smackdown pretty much has just 5 teams and 2 of them can easily be split up to beef up the midcard. All RAW really needs is Alphas, Usos, and Ascension for new teams.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-05-2017 09:50 PM

Vaudevillians Away :wavesad: :nono: :( :'(

Maluco 04-05-2017 10:00 PM

Could be good for English. Rumours suggested that he had heat with more guys than Sin Cara and a big mouth was getting him into trouble.

English is probably glad to see the back of him tbh

Evil Vito 04-05-2017 11:32 PM

Yeah I'm reading now that Gotch even had heat with English himself and they didn't like each other. English asked to be split from Gotch and they had a fight backstage at Mania.

Triple A 04-05-2017 11:51 PM

I think that was confirmed to be a fake post made by someone on Reddit (Reddit mods deleted it)

RP 04-06-2017 12:44 AM

I liked the Vaudevillians entrance, but after that I didnt care.

DAMN iNATOR 04-06-2017 02:50 AM

In all seriousness, I don't know how Vince expected the gimmick of basically the 2 c.1900 bodybuilder guys from old FG episodes to translate to the main roster. I was down with them at first, but once they lost their first opportunity to become #1 Contenders I stopped caring.

Bad News Gertner 04-06-2017 03:06 AM

He had an indie gimmick

Simon Gotch (John Smith, 34), has been released. He was signed in the summer of 2013 after the company saw him do his early 20th century gimmick for Harley Race’s World League Wrestling where he used the name Ryan Drago. His actual inspiration was the old-time pro wrestling circus strongmen types, in particular George Hackenschmidt, but was given the Simon Gotch name after Frank Gotch. He was put together with Matt Rehwoldt, as Aiden English, as the Vaudevillains in developmental. It was the kind of a gimmick that got them noticed at first, but also had a very low ceiling and shelf life. They debuted one year ago and were given a quick initial push, and then quickly forgotten about and were essentially an enhancement team.

At the time of his incident with Sin Cara, there was at least speculation both would be gone but neither was let go, but it was clear his situation wasn’t strong. His personality rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

English is supposed to be getting a singles push coming off this. The most over English ever was really was the period when he did the singing gimmick in NXT shortly before the creation of the Vaudevillains. He was a heel, but a lot of people cheered him because he was such a good singer. Then they did a feud with him and Cass, who can also sing. Rehwoldt used to do musical theater. He’s very good at that music theater style of stage singing. That role, if they do it, will either make him a star or people will crap on it bad and they’ll give up on it. Until he does it, you don’t know which it’ll be.

Huh, interesting @TheREALGameTripleA.
