If WCW had won the war, what would we call "The Attitude Era"?

Discuss.

Would it have been called the NWO era? Nitro generation?

Another question, if HHH won the King of the ring instead of Austin would WWE have won the war?

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-16-2014 10:40 PM

Yes, WCW's collapse was inevitable because of their business structure. The PPV money went to Turner Home Entertainment and not back to WCW. The structure was flawed on every possible level. AOL would still have bought out Time Warner and they would have shut down WCW.

Had WCW won there would be no major professional wrestling company in America today.

Austin gave WWF a huge boon that Triple H wouldn't have. They'd still win the war because WCW was managed by a bunch of halfwits. They wouldn't have made as much money as they did though.

ECW could have still been around if Paul Heyman could have found a checkbook not made out of rubber.

I agree but could the WWF survived that long? I heard they were pretty close at one point to having bigggg money problems

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-16-2014 11:47 PM

No which is why both companies would have self destructed and scorched earth everything.

Emperor Smeat 07-17-2014 12:01 AM

Probably the "Big Boys Era" as a take on WCW's catchphrase "where the big boys play" or the Bischoff era.

James Steele 07-17-2014 12:14 AM

Look at the adjective.

Heyman mentioned on his podcast with Austin a few months back that ECW was owed $7 million in PPV money from On Demand...but On Demand realized ECW had no means to make any money without a TV deal and so they decided to not pay it cause they knew Heyman/ECW couldn't afford the legal fees to take them to court.

And on the flip side, nobody wanted to give them a TV deal because they didn't have any money, and weren't willing to bank on ECW getting the $7 million they were owed. They were always up shit's creek.

Heyman estimated that if they got the $7 million they could have retained RVD, got a minor but still important TV deal, and continue running PPVs and getting revenue from that. Many of the guys who went on to compose the original ROH roster would have probably been ECW guys instead. Could have been interesting.

You did it wrong. You forgot to include this:

But thanks for steaming my gimmick, buddy

Also, any fond memories of every move being a "SIDEWALK SLAM!!!" would instead us cracking wise on Vince saying "whatamaneuver".

But, to answer the topical question... WCW would have some weak-ass name for it, downplaying both the "Attitude Era" and "Monday Night War" as some kind of one-sided footnote in wrestling history- one where somehow, SCSA was a "cheap ripoff" of Scott Norton.

Hanso Amore 07-17-2014 12:58 AM

Everyone is a cheap rip off of Scott Norton.

Feel like I'm the only one who watched Nitro more than Raw back then....

DaveBrawl 07-17-2014 03:22 PM

I watched Nitro much more frequently.

Typically only watched Raw maybe a couple of minutes a week (whenever certain guys I didn't like were on screen), or whenever the Undertaker and Demon Kane came on screen for my brother until he stopped caring.

Sepholio 07-17-2014 03:33 PM

I was one of those "I watch Raw when it's a commercial on Nitro" guys.

Swear to God, I was too. Then I heard "Austin is the champion! Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!" and everything changed.

Savio 07-17-2014 07:46 PM

In the beginning I would watch Nitro 8-9, switch to raw 9-11 and tape nitro. Then i just stopped caring and only taped raw (When school started again)

Knowing Bischoff he would've denied there was ever a war and Nitro was always in control.

Decided it should be the "On A Pole" Period. Aliteration.

Similar to Savior, only I would flip from RAW during commercials... until I found out they reran Nitro later. Then I would just stay up and watch the repeat or tape it if I went to bed and watch it the next day to get my fix. Easypeasy.

Finding Hardcore TV, on the other hand, was a chore unto itself, with rotating timeslots and days. Took awhile to try watching ECW because it hardly ever on the same time twice, and I occasionally caught it while looking for the cable access rerun of that week's high school football game hoping it was my school (at the time, the home field for all Youngstown City Schools- plus one private school down the street from campus, was YSU, so it was a crap shoot on what team was taped as the "game of the week").
