'Monster Movies'

So I wanna watch a monster movie tonight. Something along the lines of Cloverfield or War of the Worlds or something.

Help me out.

Like destruction Monster movie, or any type of monster movie? Are you only counting movies like Godzilla and Cloverfield, or do movies like Predator and Alien count?

I'll go ahead and reccomend Pumpkinhead and "Them!"

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 09:35 AM

Yeah Preditor and Alien count, but I think I'd prefer the 'destruction' type movie.

Downloading those two now for a start, thanks :y:

Them is cheesy as hell. It's a 50s B-movie, but it's both funny and awesome. It's about giant radioactive ants terrorizing people. It's pure 50s nuclear paranoia and some amazingly hokey monster fare. It's worth a watch if you love horror and stuff like that.

It's also the movie where the "wilhelm scream", the one you hear in tons of movies (ie star wars) comes from originally. It's a fanboy thing.

A Daniel Stern/John Heard classic.

Depending on your "Meh" tolerance you could watch Dragon Wars.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 01:08 PM

Is that the film with a load of dragons in a modern setting? Not seen it but heard of it

Yes, it is that. It's kind of Godzilla-ish.

Then there is "The Core," which doesn't have a monster unless you count the concept of the movie. The earth's core stops spinning so a team of scientists have to drill to the center of the earth to shoot a missile at it or else we will all die. It's basically Armaggedon meets Journey to the Center of the Earth...let's just say you have to really, really like bad movies.

Well I thought Cloverfield was pretty cool, and nobody I know likes it.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 02:01 PM

If that gives any indication

I've seen that. It was okay and then it got lame, I thought.

Thank you. I don't feel so alone now :'(

I loved Cloverfield.

As far as monster movies go, I love the original King Kong, but I imagine that's not too up your alley.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 04:36 PM

I enjoy CGI with horrors and monster flicks, I guess because of the limitless imagination that can be put into the monster etc.

But I'm always willing to give older stuff a go. Never seen the original King Kong, I think I'll give it a go.

Depending on what level of cheese you like, ya can't go wrong with Godzilla himself. The original 1954 one is surprisingly dark (if you can find the Japanese version, not the US cut), as is 2003's GMK, and the rest is MST-worthy hilarity.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-14-2008 05:51 PM

Someone recommended me Megalodon. Anybody seen this? Any good?
