E-Readers

Does anyone have a recommendation for which e-reader I should buy?

I'm aware of the popular ones like Kindle and Nook, but I'm wondering if there are also others out there that are just as good, but not as well known. I'm looking to spend under $200, but I'm pretty flexible.

I got the original Nook, pretty handy thing. If you can afford it, definitely go for the Nook Colour. It runs Android and you can jailbreak it to make it a decent tablet.

Or you can buy a book. I hear those are alot cheaper.

I'm not opposed to jailbreaking the device. Does the Nook come with a good warranty?

No, the actual real name is Nook Color.

My first Kindle just randomly died a few days ago after about 2 months of ownership. But, Amazon shipped me a new one free of charge that took about a day to get here.

Other than that, it's been good for me.

Kindles are awesome. I'm on my second, but to be fair my first only died because it was drowned under half a million gallons of water. And it still sorta worked....

The only catch with the Kindle is it won't do the snazzy stuff the Nook colour will because it's e-ink. Which is why I like it, really. I don't like reading books (or anything long) off a computer screen, so "reads like paper" is awesome.

The only thing that's pissing me off now is the "publisher set prices" that are happening more and more. Pay as much for the digital as for the print version of the book? Fuck you.

Love the new e-ink Pearl display on the newer Kindles.

But again, it depends on what you want an e-reader for. Amazon and Sony do e-ink, but if you want bells and whistles, you do have to look elsewhere.

Yeah I'd primarily be reading e-books, so maybe Kindle is the way to go. I have a smart phone so I don't really need the snazzy stuff.

I have a smark phone. It thinks it's smart, but it's really just a retard.

E-Ink is really awesome for reading, since it doesn't cause the same kind of eyestrain as staring at a screen. I always kinda figured I'd skip the e-reader thing because I didn't want to spend all my time staring at yet another screen, but with the option of a display that reads like paper, I read a lot more than I used to even.

I can certainly see the benefit to multifunction devices, but I don't think I'd read anything for very long on a LCD display.

Sounds like this might be good for you. Long as you know the limits of the e-ink display and Kindles as a result.

I have a Kindle and I enjoy it. One of the biggest reasons is what KK has already said: the e-ink. I don't even really know what the Nook has to offer in comparison but I can say that the Kindle is solid if you just want to read some books.
