I feel like Charlotte is a cut above every other diva.

She just seems like she's much better than every single other diva on the roster. Her size, skill set, promo...I dunno. I feel like the ONLY womens matches that I actually find myself caring about involve her. She should probably just keep the title forever.

Is there really anyone who even comes close? Sasha is OK. Bayley is kinda OK. Becky is OK...but Charlotte just seems to be great.

Your thoughts?

Simple Fan 09-20-2016 02:31 PM

Agree, her look is marketable and she's probably the most athletic women on the roster. Being the daughter of Ric Flair doesn't hutt either. She has all the tools to be a 16X WWE Womens Champion.

Fignuts 09-20-2016 02:34 PM

She seems like a jack of all trades. Good at everything, but master of none. I would say sasha and becky are better, in-ring.

Stickman 09-20-2016 02:40 PM

I completely agree. I think a lot of it comes down to maturity as well. Of course she has all the natural abilities but she did start later in life than other women and has lived a life prior to actually getting in the ring. All that talent plus having life experience is a great combination.

What do they do better than her in-ring?

Evil Vito 09-20-2016 03:13 PM

Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. But the actual content of her promos is great, and I thoroughly enjoy her in the ring. Yeah her last name being Flair probably helped her immediately get a super push immediately after being called up, but she's genuinely a really good performer.

Evil Vito 09-20-2016 03:13 PM

Speaking of Flair, I wonder if it's eventually going to be revealed that Ric's been fucking Dana Brooke. WOOOOOOOOOOO!

Black Widow 09-20-2016 03:17 PM

She'd get no reaction if she didn't resort to copying Daddy.

EXCUSE ME, but an annoying voice can be helpful to a heel promo.

Evil Vito 09-20-2016 03:19 PM

It can, but at a certain point it can become the wrong kind of heat.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 03:20 PM

Heat is heat.

Evil Vito 09-20-2016 03:20 PM

Like I eventually reached the point where I would change the channel when Vickie was on because I couldn't stomach to listen to another promo where she had to stand there and yell "EXCUSE ME" a billion times before actually making her point. Great for a live crowd, not so much for someone watching at home.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 03:20 PM

Does Charlotte's voice make you want to change the channel?

Evil Vito 09-20-2016 03:24 PM

Not yet. Amazing what can happen when you give somebody actual substance to their promos and don't rely on a tired out catchphrase.

TheFallenOneX 09-20-2016 03:27 PM

Charlotte's voice is like an combination of early Stephanie McMahon and Vicki, and it is just so so bad, other than that she is the most talented female on the roster. Make her a Paul Heyman girl.

I just don't think she needs Heyman, since she CAN cut a nice promo.

True that, the content is spot on

Funky Fly is back 09-20-2016 03:30 PM

Charlotte reminds me a lot of Umaga and Lita.

Would argue part of it is due to her getting the same benefits every past Divas/Women's champion got for the division in regards to getting the most screen and in-ring time compared to everyone else.

Until recently the WWE was usually pretty bad at building the division outside of the title feud so whoever was the champion ended up improving a lot compared to their pre-title time.

Same was true for Nikki Bella because of her long reign, AJ Lee with her long reign, and others in the past with decent length reigns.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 03:57 PM

They may be true, but I've never heard a really good Sasha Banks promo. Always feels so forced and contrived, whether heel or face. Love Becky, but her promos also tend to try a bit hard.

I think people over rated Vickie's heal heat . I am with you in that she was a channel changer for me due to the annoyance factor.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 05:20 PM

I haven't actively changed a channel on a wrestling show since the Monday Night Wars...and that was only from Nitro to see if Raw had returned from commercial yet.

You're not the world, Thrilla. :p

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 05:35 PM

I understand that. I was just thinking out loud. That's where the "I" quantifier came from.

Mr. Nerfect 09-20-2016 05:36 PM

Completely on-board with how great Charlotte is though. Her look is tremendous. I don't just mean that in a seedy way -- she looks like a fucking champion. She's well built, presents herself well, and looks relatively threatening. Bayley is in shape, but looks so innocent. Sasha Banks is quite thin and looks like she could break. Becky is in tremendous form, but comes off as quite "normal." All of those work for the gimmicks they have found, but Charlotte's is that of the superseding women's wrestling star, and she inhabits it so well.

Some of her matches have been phenomenal. Given her experience level, she's got to be considered a prodigy to some degree. Her promo content is wonderful, and even when she was a face in NXT, she'd tell the fans to "shut up when I'm talking" and it'd fit.

She's not my favorite women's wrestler -- that would easily be Becky #1 and Emma #2 -- but I might have to concede that she is the best. I know people LOVE Sasha, but I'm glad Charlotte won the belt back off her. Babyface Sasha works well in the ring, but is less impressive outside it as a full personality. I also like that Charlotte breaks the Charlotte ---> Sasha ---> Bayley cycle we all saw coming. It feels like all bets are off as to who rises up and takes the belt off her now.

To me, Charlotte and Sasha are the heel characters in the division. One runs RAW and the other runs SmackDown. Bayley and Becky are your babyface contenders. Natalya is your really strong wrestling hand on one of the shows. She's there to get beat by Bayley or Becky and make them look good. Emma is going to be harder to fit, because while I like Evil Emma, she feels somewhat out of place despite looking tremendous lately. It's a shame Paige isn't on great terms with the company, because I feel like they are natural rivals and could be a great supplementary program on RAW to fill those three hours.

I'm razzing ya. It just sometimes come off as you denying that these trends happen because you haven't conformed. You're just more resilient than most.

Mr. Nerfect 09-20-2016 05:42 PM

Oh, can I also just say -- Ric Flair should still be there. That double-act was tremendous. Flair was such a piece of shit and playing it so well. He's somewhat an attraction being there in her corner and he never overshadowed his baby girl. He played the part perfectly.

Another thing I'll say specifically about Charlotte: That she has been champion for pretty much a year non-stop at this point (bar, like, three weeks?) and she still feels fresh is tantamount to what a fantastic champion she is. Compare that to how long in the tooth John Cena and Batista's title reigns got after just a few months in 2005. That's not me knocking either guy -- that's just me praising Charlotte.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 05:43 PM

Ah, I almost forgot about Emma. Her most recent work is probably the second best out of all the women as an overall package, in my opinion.

Yeah, I still hope she retains on Sunday.

Mr. Nerfect 09-20-2016 05:44 PM

Could Charlotte put together a legit Four Horsewomen stable? She's already got Dana Brooke aligned with her. Emma would be a natural fit given her standing relationship wtih Dana. All you need is one more woman and a remixed Horseman theme. Shayna Baszler? Daria Berenato? Tessa Blanchard? Maybe not right now, but down the line I'd to see a faction of heel girls dedicated to keeping the red and white belt on the golden goddess.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2016 05:46 PM

I think onscreen she would have to start respecting Dana first. Not saying that couldn't happen, though.

In the ring, she's always been a gem. She incorporates a lot of Japanese stuff, and she's quite "heavy" as a performer, in terms of style. I believe her beating someone up. I got really upset when the babyface gimmick flopped, but she's grown into that heel persona. It seems she's keeping it around at house shows, but something about it feels a bit "tacked on" and unnecessary given that she's going to be fresh off injury.

I think she could keep the glove, keep the association with "Evil Emma" (they never called her that on the air, but look at how Regal mined being an "Old Villain"), but lose the glasses and be less "I'm bad" when she comes out, and more "I could be bad." Her recent heel gimmick always felt more of a pit-stop through to something more, and less of the final destination for her personality.

It could also turn out that Charlotte and Dana have been in cahoots about this disrespecting stuff all along. Create the illusion of dissension and no one suspects a uniformed front.

Lock Jaw 09-20-2016 07:58 PM

Agree, feel like Charlotte is the only one that "exudes star power".... feel like the only thing that is lacking is her current ring gear, which does not exude star power.

Wishbone 09-20-2016 10:36 PM

Meh, I just don't see it like you guys do. I mean she plays her role exceptionally well, but I just don't see her as being as great as you all are making her out to be. To me she's just a really good heel, not a mega-star. Maybe it's her looks, maybe it's the way she leans on her daddy's gimmick like a crutch, but something just doesn't quite click with me.

I do however like Noid's idea of her being the top heel on one show, Sasha on the other, and Becky and Bayley as the top faces. As much as I love Sasha now she does play a heel too well to waste it, especially when Smackdown! is so lacking in that department at the moment.

Dobby: Speak not the name sir.

Diva is insulting.

Bad News Gertner 09-20-2016 11:19 PM

I wish they'd go back to having evening gown matches

Lock Jaw 09-20-2016 11:48 PM

Have to save that for the big blow off match of a big feud.... maybe at rasslemania.......
