Public Enemy and WWF
Don't know if anyone would know the answer to this, but how come Public Enemy were released from WWF in 1999? In storyline they were 'not wanted backstage because they were from WCW', but wondered if this was actually for real.
From wiki: The Public Enemy signed with the World Wrestling Federation[4] in early 1999. They weren't accepted "backstage" by veteran WWF wrestlers and backstage personnel, however, due to animosity over the fact that The Public Enemy chose WCW over the WWF when the two companies were pursuing the tag team in late 1995.[8] Rocco Rock was also forced to change his name and go by the shortened name "Flyboy" Rocco, in order not to "cause confusion" with The Rock. They made their WWF debut on the February 22, 1999 episode of Raw is War. In the two months they lasted in the WWF, their only feud was against the APA; following the feud and The Public Enemy's subsequent release, the APA claimed that they "ran The Public Enemy out" of the WWF. |
They were fucked from the beginning in the WWF. I think they were just brought in to be jobbed out tbh. Vince offered them a deal when they were in ECW and they declined but then went to WCW for more money. They failed in WCW and ECW didn't really want them back so they begged Vince for a job and he pretty much buried them.

RIP Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge

APA did the same with the Dudleys when they started in the WWE but the passed the 'test' and look what happened to them.
|
Multiple tag team titles, epic TLC matches and a brief push for Bubba Ray? What dreadful treatment they received.
|
Missed the boat Funky. He was saying what you did. Dudleys passed the WWE test and were embraced and made it. Enemy didnt. Or at least so that poster is saying.
|
I dont think it was anything other than they sucked in the ring, were old, had a shitty look and did not fit in the WWE in 1999.
|
Lets be honest....Public Enemy didnt work anywhere but ECW.
|
Public Enemy probably had the most Japanese tables in WCW history. Ouch!

Indeed. But it was before the Outsiders got the belt, and they were over at that point.

I actually enjoyed Public Enemy in WCW, granted this was when I was a mark 14 year old kid at that point.
I mean, they wasn't anything super great, but atleast had a entertainment factor to them, and this was before I really seen some of the crap ECW did back in the day, But I remember them putting Disco Inferno thru three tables at Road Wild 98 |
They won the titles to try to get them over. Then they had matches with the Amazing French canadiens.
More of a fluke run than anything else. |
Public Enemy had a pretty good WCW run. I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about.
|
The match is on Daily Motion. Fans popped when Public Enemy were handed the titles.
|
Back in the day I only got WCW Saturday Night but I really enjoyed Public Enemy.
|
Remember when Public Enemy teamed up with Anthrax? That was epic.
