What year should some of these wrestlers have won the WWE/World title or been pushed to it

I've been listening to some of these interviews on YT from former/current wrestlers and it got me wondering about wrestlers who, if "pushed right", should've at least been in the title scene or won the gold.

For example, IMO, i feel that DDP should've won the title somewhere in late '97/early-mid '98. I just think he was one of the, if not, THE most over person in the company at the time. I also think Goldberg had alot to do with him possibly not getting the belt until later on, but i think that the roof would have blown off if Hogan would've caught the Diamond Cutter for the title on a Nitro or PPV.

Thats just one example, there are WAYYY more obviously

Christian 2005. 'Nuff Said!

Rammsteinmad 05-19-2015 08:16 PM

Most of the roster today who were around in 2011 probably should have won it then.

Hassan but UPN screwed him over!

I actually agree with you there.

Maybe a bit of a weird one, but Ken Shamrock after his KotR win or after one of his IC title runs could have easily been pushed to that level. He was legit and extremely over. Think he would actually fare a lot better today without such a heavy main event scene.

As a heel to the top guys, or the corporate chosen bodyguard of THEIR title, I would have definitely bought into it

Jazzy Foot 05-19-2015 10:52 PM

Goldberg v DDP should have been the main event at Starrcade 1998 with Goldberg retaining and having his "Starrcade Moment" as it were which he actually never got if I am correct?

A face would have been the best person to drop the belt to but without interference e.g. Nash, DDP or Sting.

Personally I'd have chosen Sting.

KaosDarksol 05-19-2015 11:25 PM

Wade Barrett in the Nexus storyline

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-19-2015 11:31 PM

Rowdy Roddy Piper deserved a heel reign for how he got WrestleMania over. Could have had Hogan lose the title somewhere near WrestleMania 2 and had Hogan regain the title at the PPV instead of the shitload of fuck they had.

Or at least it should have been Piper/Hogan for the Championship in a Hogan defense. Piper deserved better than fucking around with Mr. T.

Johnny Vegas 05-20-2015 11:53 AM

I would say that RVD around right when the InVasion angle started. He was OBVIOUSLY well known in the WWE universe, but i know since he was an ECW guy, that would've never happened (i can dream though).

I think DDP should have been winning it a couple of times after beating Curt Henning at Starrcade '97. He was always one of the most over dudes in WCW from late '96 - early '99 so he should've gotten a clean Diamond Cutter on Hogan or Nash and a win.

Also, i think that the Ken Shammrock mention is VERY legit during '97- early '98

Rammsteinmad 05-20-2015 01:32 PM

Rob Van Dam should have won at Unforgiven 2002. When he mocked Triple H by doing that water bottle spitting thing and the crowd popped... man that was awesome.

Lock Jaw 05-20-2015 07:54 PM

Rob Van Dam should never have won ever.

DAMN iNATOR 05-20-2015 09:49 PM

Cena probably should've not been elevated until mid-2006 to early 2007.

Dukelorange 05-21-2015 09:47 AM

John Morrison could have been up there. I have to think some more on this one though...

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 05:31 AM

Christian and Matt Hardy in 2005. It would have been worth a real good shot.

Dukelorange 05-22-2015 08:03 AM

Damien Sandow could have been real good and feud with Cody Rhodes while the titles were still separate.

Nicky Fives 05-22-2015 11:10 AM

Barrett during Nexus storyline is the only one that leaps to my mind....

Simple Fan 05-22-2015 11:16 AM

Agree with Barrett, Matt Hardy, Christian and Morrison. Another that should have got a shot is Bobby Lashly when he was doing the dominate gimmick.

Ruien 05-22-2015 11:18 AM

Ryback when he returned from his injury and was the "HUGE" free agent for the Survivor Series match.

Ruien 05-22-2015 11:19 AM

Or Ryback now. Or Ryback when he was going against CM Punk.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 08:47 PM

I don't think Barrett should have won the title in '10. He was over and the Nexus stuff was working, but there were ways around that feud that didn't require him to win the title. I do think that he should have been The Undertaker's opponent at WrestleMania XXVII though.

Hogan losing the belt would have killed Hogan. It's what was part of the allure. Plus, Piper didn't need the belt.

Morrison couldn't and can't cut a promo to.save his life.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:16 PM

As a face, you're right. He could talk as a heel though. Maybe not promo in the sense that he could talk people into a buildng. That being said, his charisma was all in the ring, and he was phenomenal. Stole the show at that chain of PPVs. Amazing performances.

#1-norm-fan 05-22-2015 09:23 PM

I remember his promo on ECW the night he became John Morrison being pretty great. I always thought they could have done more with that psychedelic rock star gimmick.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:38 PM

I think they should have stayed with that vibe. When he turned face he was more "Yeah! I'm a good guy!"

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:39 PM

The parkour stuff they showed him doing was great, but they also should have shown him being worshipped by legions of women waving palm leaves around him and rubbing his glorious abs. The man was a god and should have been presented as such.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:42 PM

Dude got in the way of his own push, I guess. The stuff with Trish Stratus at that WrestleMania was pretty embarrassing. If the dude had embraced it, he could have potentially hooked up with Trish Stratus on-screen and been the dude that not only steals the show and has now started winning, but even the guy that Trish wants to bang. Money, money, money.

His feud with R-Truth was surprisingly quiet too. They were at least deserving of a SummerSlam blow-off, but they can kind of just threw them together into a tag match. When you think about it, John Morrison should have been the arch-nemesis of The Awesome Truth -- he hated both guys and had failed partnerships with them both.

Bad News Gertner 05-22-2015 10:00 PM

Morrison's promos during.his feud with Drew McIntyre were beyond bad. Lol remember when he dressed up as William Wallace from Braveheart?

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-22-2015 10:11 PM

No lol

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-22-2015 10:12 PM

Remember when he tried to make Mr. Ziggles a thing?

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 10:17 PM

Drew McIntyre should have feuded with Dolph Ziggler heading into that WrestleMania. I get that we were just talking about Morrison, and he was in that feuding slot, but a McIntyre face turn to stand up for Kelly Kelly against Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero would have been pretty good. It was around here that he started to really lose momentum.

This was in 2011, I believe, so that would have been WrestleMania XXVII again. This was the first WrestleMania without a Money in the Bank since the matches' inception, but Morrison would have made a great hypothetical winner of it if they had chosen to hold it.

LOL, there's no ol' Fat Lardy should've EVER been WWE Champion. He was only mildly entertaining at best and they were absolutely right to leave him in the mid-card.

The Condor 05-24-2015 11:16 AM

Owen Hart in late '94. He should have won it from Bret and been the guy to job it to Diesel since they were dead set on giving Nash the title. Of course, it should have been a much more competitive affair than the Backlund angle, but that was Owen's time.

Heyman 05-24-2015 03:41 PM

2000 - Chris Jericho
2001 - Rob Van Dam
2005 - Christian
2007 - CM Punk (can't remember if he actually was as my memory post 2005 of Wrestling is extremely fragmented).
2014/2015 - (if built up properly) - Cesaro

Heyman 05-24-2015 04:02 PM

Bray Wyatt 2014.

Mr. Nerfect 05-25-2015 10:36 AM

In retrospect, Rob Van Dam would have made a great choice to win the 2002 Royal Rumble. I know Triple H coming back off his return was a huge deal, but I think him teaming up with Austin & Rock to face the nWo would have been HUGE. I know Hogan vs. Rock made people gush, but when you think about it, it was for wonky smark reasons (the crowd being so pro-Hogan and so anti-Rock). Just throwing that out there.

Mr. Nerfect 05-25-2015 10:37 AM

Instead of doing Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger for the World Title at WrestleMania 29, I think it should have been Jericho challenging Ziggler. Del Rio vs. Swagger would have fit the US Title better.

Mr. Nerfect 05-25-2015 10:37 AM

Kane also seemed like the obvious choice to win the vacant World Heavyweight Title when they gave it to The Great Khali too.
