I never said guys like Jackson, Rice, Gore, etc. were not franchise running backs, nor did I even mention who I thought was or wasn’t. Having a guy who has had a couple of 1,000 yard seasons, though, doesn’t automatically make him a player you can suddenly revolve your team around. You usually have 10-15 guys who have 1,000+ rushing yards in a season, and most of them fizzle out after a couple of years. My original post stated that from a rough statistical standpoint this has been a weaker year for running backs in general. I also said that in recent years more successful teams have been less dependent on having a one man 1,500/1,600 yard rusher in the backfield, and players who rack up those sorts of numbers are usually on more meager teams. I never commented on if those numbers reflected the quality of the player.

I don't even know if this has been that weak of a year for running backs to be honest with you. I just quickly looked at the top rushers and at the time the numbers looked a little low for Week 13 or 14 in terms of the leading rusher and attempts per game. Add in that you have a lot of big passers this year and it just seems like rushing has been lagging a bit.

Bears receiver Sam Hurd currently has serious legal issues. He soon may have serious employment issues, too.
Apart from the question of whether the Bears will simply cut Hurd, who has made only eight catches for 109 yards in 12 games this season, the NFL likely will take action against Hurd, under the personal conduct policy.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells PFT that the league is “looking into” the situation.
The league has applied different approaches to players facing prosecution for serious crimes. Former Falcons quarterback Mike Vick promptly was suspended after being indicted for dogfighting in July 2007. In contrast, the league took no action against former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox, who was charged last year with raping a woman who had passed out in his apartment.
Some would say the league’s response depends on the profile of the player and/or the attention the allegations receive.
In Hurd’s case, the league likely will ask questions first and shoot later, especially in light of the report that Hurd’s customers included a double-digit number of NFL players. The league could give Hurd a chance to come clean regarding his customers before making any decisions about Hurd’s status pending trial.
Regardless, any players who were buying cocaine or marijuana from Hurd need to be nervous, because there’s a pretty good chance the league will find out about it — and then do something about it.

OOOH an NFL drug ring..gonna get interesting

DrA 12-16-2011 01:16 AM

I feel bad about that. Sam Hurd always seemed like a nice guy. I hope it works out for the best.

Droford 12-16-2011 01:18 AM

Wonder who hes gonna bring down.

Reavant 12-16-2011 02:51 AM

Nark Order 12-16-2011 10:16 AM

Ben Roethlisberger raped 2 women and the league said it was fine.

What a fucking ridiculously epic video. I don't know if there's ever been a guy that I want to cheer for more than Tim Tebow.

Innovator 12-16-2011 11:00 AM

He congratulates Urlacher on a great play while he's still on the ground.

Nark Order 12-16-2011 11:05 AM

I would like to make a wager and a proclamation. If Tebow and the Broncos beat New England this week, I will skip watching football next weekend and go to church.

Nark Order 12-16-2011 11:06 AM

And I'm serious.

DrA 12-16-2011 01:59 PM

You're on

FearedSanctity 12-16-2011 02:16 PM

Cutler

Emperor Smeat 12-16-2011 02:26 PM

Not sure what the Browns are doing with McCoy as he got sent home for the 4th time this week from practice with the issue being related to his concussion.

They keep rushing him back out to practice and every time he needs to be sent back home to recover.

Not sure if they waited until the 4th time or announced it earlier but took them awhile to state McCoy won't be playing this week against Arizona.

SammyG 12-16-2011 02:32 PM

I love Tebow so much. Respect the kid a ton, hope he makes the playoffs.

FearedSanctity 12-16-2011 02:48 PM

If you guys like Tebow mic'd, then I'd recommend the one from the comeback everyone who's not a Bronco fan forgot about

He will because the rest of that division is on a skid and the Chargers will choke at the end.

Is that a midget? Her arm looks ridic short.

FearedSanctity 12-16-2011 07:18 PM

Think it's probably just the jersey being too big for her

Nark Order 12-16-2011 07:19 PM

I would much rather believe that it is a Tebow endorsing midget next to a horse.

FearedSanctity 12-16-2011 07:28 PM

Not just any horse apparently. According to the article posted with the picture that horse is a descendant of Secretariat. Pretty interesting I guess

Nark Order 12-16-2011 08:34 PM

Guess I need to brush up on my horse lineage.

You do realize that football next weekend is on Saturday because of Christmas on Sunday right?

Droford 12-16-2011 11:02 PM

Also, I took the Broncos +13.5 on a teaser only because they'll probably manage to keep the game close but I dont expect them to win.

Picked up Felix Jones in fantasy. Feeling pretty good about my matchup.

Did the Packers untying Ndamukong Suh’s shoes set him off?

http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/editorial_i...et_him_off.jpg

Was Ndamukong Suh's Thanksgiving outburst caused by a juvenile prank ordered by a Green Bay Packers coach? According to former Packers offensive lineman Matt Brock, that's exactly what happened.

Brock was being interviewed on KXTG in Portland, Ore., when he floated the theory that his former teammate, current offensive line coach James Campen, may have told Evan Dietrich-Smith to untie Ndamukong Suh's shoes during the game as a way of getting under the skin of the volatile Detroit Lions star.

This is the sort of tale that's best served straight from the horse's mouth, so here's a transcript of Brock's interview, courtesy MLive.com:

The center, or one of his guards, he's had like one or two starts in his career and he's got to play against Suh. So he's pretty puckered, right? So, he talking to James, the offensive line coach, going, "What do I do? What do I do?"

James is just in his mind going, "This guy is going to get killed. I got to take his mind off it, give him something else to do." So he says, "Ok, every time you're in a pile, I want you to focus on something. I want you to untie his shoes."

He goes, "What?"

"Anytime you can, just reach in, he's got floppy shoe laces, he doesn't spat or anything, just untie his shoes. It will irritate him."

He untied his shoes three times in the game. That's why he stomped him. That's why he banged his head on the ground and he stomped him. When (Suh) went to the sideline it looked like he was telling the coach, "I didn't do anything" and he put his foot up like, "I didn't stomp him. I didn't do anything." He was actually going, "The damn guy keeps untying my shoes."

That's a heck of a tale and it's just plausible enough to be true. Suh is so temperamental that you can see him getting aggravated by some scrub messing with his shoes. It's something that's easily checked, I suppose. All you'd have to do is go back and look at the game tape to see if Suh was bending over in between plays to tie his shoes.

Even if it's not true, I'd imagine Oakland Raiders coaches will be whispering to their offensive linemen about how to antagonize Suh during this Sunday's game. Sure, they could suggest they untie his shoes in a pile, but where's the originality in that? Come up with a new way to annoy him. Try tickling his feet or blowing gently in his ear or singing that Mariah Carey Christmas song at full volume all game. Dude will snap in no time.

Triple Naitch 12-17-2011 08:13 PM

How long has wrestling legend Kevin Greene been the Packers' linebackers coach?

ClockShot 12-17-2011 09:04 PM

Is my biological clock off a day, or is NFL football airing on a saturday?

FearedSanctity 12-17-2011 09:06 PM

Boy, are you in for a shock next Saturday :p

Droford 12-17-2011 09:36 PM

In the not too distant future they're will probably be a game on every damn night

and you'll watch that LA Vikings/London Jaguars Wednesday Night game!!

Emperor Smeat 12-17-2011 10:35 PM

Doesn't the NFL usually play Saturday games during the playoffs and once every few years near the end of the regular season?

Usually depends on when Christmas and New Years fall on for a certain year.

Doubt the NFL will ever play on a Saturday early in the season unless the Anti-trust laws get changed or college football moves to a different day (won't happen due to tradition).

FearedSanctity 12-17-2011 10:52 PM

Pretty sure they start on Saturdays in December while the majority of college teams are off until the bowl games. And yeah, anti-trust keeps them from playing Fridays and Saturdays otherwise. No way the NFL expands outside it's current days. The advantage teams get the next week after playing on a Thursday is bad enough

Droford 12-17-2011 11:23 PM

there was a college bowl game no one cared about tonight too..the NFL could get away with doing games every night if they wanted to. How much different is a Tuesday Night game from Monday? Wednesday would probably be the worst/hardest..

FearedSanctity 12-17-2011 11:29 PM

Because the NFL is more about game plan and strategy than leagues like the NBA and MLB, where in game strategy and adjustments are nothing. You take away the preparation and the games will go to shit. Playing every day is retarded. It'd be almost impossible to avoid situations where Team A gets destroyed by Team B because A played 2 days ago while B had almost a full week to prepare. The NFL manages it just fine now (you play Monday, you don't play Thursday) but a full 7 day schedule is almost impossible to balance fairly. It'll never happen

OssMan 12-18-2011 09:22 AM

I really don't think the NFL gives a shit about fairness. Having a game on every night would make them a lot more money even though it would be retarded.
