How does the average indy fed make any money?

Whenever I see a clip of an indy show, even the well established ones like PWG/CZW, it seems like theres not many people there at all, and they must only be paying a max of like $20 to get in anyway.

With a card of about 15-20 ppl, a place to hire to host the event, etc, there must be a substantial amount of money to pay so how is this made?

Most of the wrestlers, no matter their name value, probably don't get paid too much. Or they make money from merchandise sales. Along with day jobs.

Sometimes venues don't charge too much, especially if there's a bar, as it basically means they'll be pulling in the punters all evening.

Or sometimes the company just makes a loss.

I DON'T KNOW!!!

Some of the no name talents and younger guys will work for free sometimes.

most of them don't. A lot of them lose money. Especially those run by "workers".

"I'm going to pay more than I'll make from the entire show alone just to fly in Davey Richards so I can tell people I've wrestled Davey Richards".

thing is, it's not that difficult either. Most just either can't be arsed to or don't know how to promote them properly. Put "Wrestling" on the poster and promote it properly and people will come and watch.

to give an example, MoFo is from the same small city as me. I'd like to know if he knows that Seth Rollins/Tyler Black, Finn Balor/Prince Devitt, Sami Zayn/El Generico, Kevin Steen/Owens, Cesaro/Castagnoli, Daniel Bryan/Danielson, Chris Hero, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Adam Cole and a bunch more have all wrestled here, in venues he's been in, over the last 5-8 years

Minus the fly in part this is so true. Had a show bring in davey to work me...last year? Year before? It was right after that twat he runs with dipped out of a show with out working after being paid in advance...made the news...thebdetails elude me.

Thing was it wasnt a smart territory. Booking davey was like booking any other indy worker. The crowd was about 450 the month before him, the month after him and thebshow he was on as well. I had heard tell 10 people drove up from east Tennessee to see him. So her drew 10. LOL

But the "promoter" had a hard on to see that match so he paid to see it. I will say indid good on gimmicks that night. They had sold him as world traveled and yada yada so when they slid me over people where clearling out the gimmicks stand on thebway out the door, so it worked out for me better than it did the show itself. So there's that.

As far how can show generate revenue concessions can and should be the big profit. Lot of shows lose out here but done right that should be money, seen a lot of revenue made with boot legging fed dvds and selling them at the merch stands so theres gimmicks too. a cheap building is big. Find a community center that charges $40 a night and youve got it made,

As far pwg and such they made profit off dvds. The live shows are not profitable at all.

Yah, I remember Davey Richards and a few others being in the Giff after one of them Fight Club Pro events at Planet, seen ppl with pics with Steen too but didn't know about the rest.

That seemed pretty successful, place always looked full even though it's a grotty little shithole, still makes me wonder how they afford to fly guys like that in and put them up for the night. DVD sales can't be THAT good surely.

How do those 'name indys' stay alive for that long losing money though?

Is it just a case of a stubborn promoter with more money than sense and not wanting to give up his dream or something. I can see CHIKARA doing big merch sales as they have a lot of gimmicky masked wrestlers and shit, a nd ECW tribute feds like House of Hardcore sells itself to the drunks who lust for blood and deathmatches, but bland stuff like Dragon Gate & Shimmer baffles me.

The name indies arent losing money
They lose at the gate but they make it back later.
