The details of Bungie's contract with Activision have been made public as part of the legal action with the former IW heads.

They're going to make 4 "sci-fantasy" action shooters under the code-named "Destiny". The first should drop fall 2013 and be 360 (or it's successor) exclusive for one year. Follow-ups will then be on Sony, MS and PC in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

Then you have 4 DLC expansions code-named "Comet" coming out in the falls of 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020. Activision are allowed to take over all these projects if Bungie cannot meet their requirements, but they cannot make spin-offs or sequels until all of Bungie's work on the franchise is complete.

Finally, 5% of their team are allowed to work on a new Marathon game with that team allowed to grow once they reach a certain level of operating income.

Not mentioned in the Joystiq article is the promise of large cash bonuses if a game gets a metacritic ranking of 90 or above.

I was hoping to see something fresh out of Bungie personally that wasn't a sci-fi (or sci-fantasy, I guess) shooter, but stick to what you know seems to be the credo here.
