You're right, but I feel like most NFL fans have an understanding that their team won't win the big one every year. Just being in the wildcard race creates enough excitement to keep people coming back each week.

Baseball might have a different champion each year, but if you're not even in the playoff running it's hard to really give a fuck. It takes a long time for down teams to recover, if they ever do. The Steelers and Penguins have been up down and up again, the Pittsburgh Pirates have had a losing record for 20 years. Kansas City hasn't been to the playoffs since before most people on this board were born.

You follow a team for 170 games and even with a winning record they can still get shut out of the playoffs. MLB is the only sport where 5 or 6 teams with winning records still don't make the playoffs... after playing 170 games that last 3 hours or more... with minimum action compared to basketball and football. That seems brutal.

At least in the NFL, even if you're team is shitty, you have the draft to look forward to or you have one star that everyone loves (like Peyton Hillis in 2010 for the Browns).
