Brock was one of those instances where the monster gimmick worked further than "Brock smash, Brock get over". He had legitimate talent to back up his push. So while he was out destroying people he looked awesome and when he finally transitioned to the main event (which wasn't long) he was able to more than hold his own.

I'd love to see what Brock would have been like had he gotten a Goldberg-esq push, except more emphasis on wrestling instead of 3 minute squashes. Lesnar could have survived the streak ending.

On the topic at hand, you're right. I'd love for someone to come along with the intent of winning and becoming the best. Honestly, I think we're seeing that subtly with Danielson.
