this isn't my post as I took it from another site

However I agree with what the guy says about Flair

Not that it excuses ANY jerkoff behavior he has committed in his life or will commit in the future, but if this were a woman being constantly abused physically, I'm certain the bent of the article would shift to question why she allows herself to be put in those situations and would likely turn into a sympathetic defense of the rest of her actions based on that alone. Not saying that's right or wrong.

There's something far more defective at play in Flair's psyche. This, and the case in which his daughter's boyfriend beat him up. It's almost like there's a touch of "please punish me, please crucify me" going on. Which is really "please love me." Love me and I'll buy you things. Love me and I'll show you a good time. Love me because I was bought and sold as a baby. Love me because I've been a piece of meat since the day I was purchased (even though I've been taught to respect and honor those who bought me), which also played into his admitted self-esteem issues.

It's complex. Yeah, he's a carny. Yeah, he's a scoundrel. Yeah, he probably should have gone to jail for more than a handful of things. But it's still beautifully tragic in a Citizen Kane sorta way.
