I'm convinced that the fanboys of the world have gone soft. I just hope the movie has quality. The interesting nature of the robots hasn't been comprimised.

As we were talking about in the GI Joe thread, I don't know why anyone would have a problem with changes as long as the basic ideas are kept in order.

So, when Transformers are new outlandish designs, rather than old outlandish designs: no harm. It's an update, and a freshening for the sake of translation to film.
Let's be honest, jets and fast cars lend themselves to an action movie more than tape recorders and volkswagens.

When what makes the material compelling is utterly ignored, then there's an issue.

I'm pretty sure Transformers still features a range of different cool shit transforming into other cool shit, with colorful and diverse characters.
