They're already setting up the next challenger for the US Title after Ryder. That's fine. I'd have Rusev brutalized Ryder at Battleground to keep the belt. Ziggler makes the save in street gear to prevent further damage to Ryder.

Ziggler manages to win the US Title on the first live SmackDown and is drafted to the opposite show to The Miz. Ryder ends up on the same show as Ziggler. Over the next few weeks we get vignettes of Emma waiting on Ryder hand and foot, even though she is injured too. Ryder's gimmick is basically that of a whiny bro that is taking his hot girlfriend for granted. When he returns, he turns on Dolph Ziggler for stealing his spotlight and challenges him for the US Title as a heel.
