I agree--and two other points on that: first off, the vast majority of the destruction that everyone's been whining about was from the World Engine, not from the fight itself--and secondly, after going back and watching it again, most (not all, but far and away the majority) of the building-smashing and whatnot was Zod, with Superman on the receiving end of the damage.
Unfortunately, common perception tends to have more weight than what actually happens in the movie, so the general consensus was that Superman just clumsily smashes buildings and kills everyone without a care in the world.
