More sci-fi elements doesn't mean balls out future setting, you're getting extreme here. There's a lot of ground between Nolan-Batman and Batman Beyond.
And actually yeah, I'd wager people would dig Terry McGuiness in his own movie. Take the season two tone with the high school life, cast a modern teen idol as Terry, go for some stunt casting for an elderly Bruce (Keaton), and go for stylish instead of mystery. You give the kids too much credit thinking they'd have a problem with a non-Bruce batman, and you also underestimate how much people actually liked Beyond. lol
But I digress; we can have it more comic-book like without going to the future.
