If Rock had been cheered, I imagine we might have gotten Cody agreeing to the Seth match and as he’s about to sign or whatever, Roman starts taunting him. “Go on, you little bitch. We both know why you’re really signing. You’re pathetic, you failed last year, you’d fail this year. There’s only one Royal Family in professional wrestling and it’s mine.”

That sort of shit. Roman tells Cody no one from his family is ever holding his belt. Cody decides not to sign. It might not be the smartest decision, but he’s going after Roman, because his family would be ashamed to see him acting this way. Rock then comes out and in a more shocking version of what actually happened, turns to Cody and tells him to stop talking shit about his family. Boom! Cody was warned what would happen if he went against The Bloodline.

All the pieces are there to get to where we currently are even with a universally accepted Rock.
