BORAT
Who is going to see this opening weekend? I can not wait. The only thing that saddens me is that now that everyone knows who he is, this is the end for Borat

I really wanna see it, but I don't think it will be the next Napoleon Dynamite. It's relatively smart satire, and Fox has dropped it to 800 screens with potential to give it a larger release. It won't hit the small towns like Dynamite did.

Trust me... no matter how many people know who he is, this was going to be the end of Borat anyways. Cohen is moving on to work on "BRUNO" sometime next year (based on his gay austrian fashionista character).
And don't fool yourself into thinking that everyone knows or cares who Borat is. Outside of the 3 major film centers in the US (NY, LA, Chicago) this movie is testing horribly and Fox has already pulled it down to about 800 screens nationwide for the opening. |

Where you sit isn't too pretty then. SOAP Opening Weekend:
The next weekend:
Not even touching the top 5 just one week later. I'm sorry man... it was a failure. From where I sit (inside the business) that doesn't look to good for BORAT to be compared to SOAP. |

Napoleon Dynamite opened in literally like two theaters. It didn't spread to smaller markets until months after its original release.

All the reviews I'm getting are saying this is the funniest movie ever. I'm worried that it won't live up to the hype.

Joey Slugs, what do you do "inside the buissness"??
Also, you are retarded.. I haven't been able to turn on the tv without seeing him on a show or seeing an ad for this movie.. Fucksake, I've heard it called "the funniest movie of all time" on some pretty mainsteam shows.. |

Good for you. It's not like that all over the country as it would be for a movie like Spider-Man. |

I want the movie to succeed, it will make our work over the past 6-8 months worth it.
But I'm being realistic. Thanks to the horrible job SOAP did (there was mainstream outlets predicting a $40-60 million dollar opening) you can never be sure how a smaller movie will do. |

Again, what do you do in "the industry"?? By "our work" do you mean you worked on it?? (cause I know some camera operators that did)
Also, national news and entertainment stations are broadcast all over the country.. Just this morning, I've seen him on Mtv, CNN, and E!.. These channels are nation wide.. I don't see where your argument is coming from.. |

ALSO, I currently live in Jackson, MS.. If it was going to be ignored anywhere, it'd be here..
Again, your argument is rather pooy.. |

No, I did not work on the movie directly but I did help market it. And you are a fool to think that just because it is being shown and talked about on CNN, E!, and MTV that everyone cares about this movie and is going to rush out and see it.
Like I said, I saw it last month and thought it was very funny. Funniest movie ever? No. But funniest movie to come out in quite some time? Yeah. How much do you think it will make this weekend? Last edited by Joey Slugs; 11-04-2006 at 12:21 PM. |
