Easy choice for HBK. Nice pick though.

Got waaaay more enjoyment out of watching HBK than I ever did out of Bret. As good as the Hitman was he never lived up to being "the best there is. The best there was. Or the best there ever will be" in my eyes.

Bret for me. Bret was always my favorite. I think my first introduction to wrestling was when I was two years old, the 1994 Royal Rumble. Bret going out there with a destroyed knee thanks to his brother and winning it with Lex Luger made him my favorite, and he never disappointed.
Bret gave me my favorite matches out of so many wrestlers. I like the HBK-Diesel No holds barred match from In Your House: Bitter Friends, Better Enemies, but the No DQ match Bret had with him at Survivor Series 1995 was way better. Bret's matches with Stone Cold are still talked about today as some of the greatest matches of all time, and a lot of people think they're better than HBK-Taker at Mania. |

A lot of people think that HBK-Undertaker or HBK-Flair is better than Bret-Austin. Or even both. There's a lot of people in this world.

Voted for Bret hart despite being quite vocal over the years about how much I dislike and find him boring as fuck outside of his Anti-America gimmick. On the premise of wrestler refering to in-ring performance I can't deny his technical greatness sleep-inducing as it is. HBK wipes the floor with him in literally every other regard.
I also tied this bitch up. |

Always thought Hart took the business too seriously. HBK seemed to not. Wish there could have been a middle ground between two of them. Bret was the better mat worker. Matches always looked like a struggle. HBK's matches seemed more like the showcases that people like on the indy scene now. Acrobatics over wrestling. Wrestling wins. Bret gets my vote. Also he didn't bury anybodies career when he was in the ring nor did he ever injure anybody.
He became a prick in later years because he has had a hard life after he retired. Shawn was just a prick because he could be because he was a top guy and threw his weight around no matter if it was his business or not. Also he fucked around with Chris Candido's relationship. Chris was a nice guy who got taken advantage of. No being born again can save him from the fact that he was a total shitbag to anybody not in his junior high fake gang the Kliq. |

Mick Foley is mediocre at best, especially after the shit he pulled with Ryback. HBK and Bret would have not entertained Rick Martel and The Skinner, that's for sure.

Bret and Shawn are my top two favorite wrestlers. 1A and 1B, so to speak.
That said, I was a Bret fan first so he gets my vote |

Love Bret and prefer him over HBK, but HBK is better overall despite being a dick before he "found Jeebus"

Neck and neck, two favourites of all time for me and would have been even if HBK had never come back...But he did come back and his run and those matches with HHH, Taker, Angle, Jericho, Flair in that time period push him into the lead for me.
Just an unbelievable career and his matches always carried so much emotion, which is exactly what is missing from wrestling today... |

Bret is my favourite....how can I not vote for him? He may not have been the best mic man, but made up for it in other areas. And this:

Bret had his moments but HBK was better all around. Slightly better in the ring and miles better as a personality/on the mic.

Really tough choice but gave the slight nod to HBK.
Bret was the better in-ring wrestler while HBK was the better performer. Both had some really great matches and moments during their careers. Ended up leaning towards HBK because of his great 2nd run and Bret's post-WWF years not being as great (not entirely his fault though). |

I've gone with HBK because I've found more personal enjoyment with more of his stuff. I'm waiting for the day that Bret Hart really clicks with me though (I've had to watch his stuff in retrospect) and I regret not voting for him. There are some ways in which he was better.

I remember when I was a kid and I was supposed to hate Bret during the '97 Hart Foundation run, but I never understood why people were booing this guy, he was always right. I never really liked Shawn even when he was face. Not that any of that matters really, but it certainly made my vote a lot easier for Bret

Shawn Michaels.
Bret was always one of my faves when I was a kid. Both men are pretty much equals at everything. They're both great workers, great on the mic, they've both had their "dark sides" and have done things you can fault them for. But they are basically two sides of the same coin. But the second half of HBK's career really did lead to some incredible matches, which is sadly an opportunity Hart had taken away from him. |

Old, broken, past his prime Shawn Michaels spent 8 years somehow still being the best wrestler in the world.
Silly how close this is. Just silly. |

Not really. Using your own what if theory on draw power bret in a what if scenerio could have reasonably had the same or similar second run the HBM had if Bret would have been in good health.

I really don't think he would have. Bret didn't have the personality to draw like Shawn had. The most personality he showed was as a heel and it worked mainly because of Shawn and Austin.

I don't think Destor's point is relevant, except to say that if Bret hadn't been concussed and made a big return to the WWE, he'd have been treated like a god and everyone would bend over praising him like they do Shawn. They don't make them like they used to, even when it comes to alleged "bores" like Bret. I mean, look at Goldberg this year. Tore the place down because he's from that era and knows how to be a man. Keep in mind this is not a guy that was known for his promo ability or savvy to negotiate the business besides be clicked and pointed and look intense while doing it.
You can't really know the minds of others in this voting process, so if people want to imagine HBK's greatest success as being relative to having a longer career in a shittier era of wrestling where he was basically fellated as being God incarnate, with the last remaining wrestling fans at the time being people who grew up with HBK, thus have a sentimental and confirming bias that whatever he does is going to be rated quite highly, it makes sense that this is a little closer. I hope that makes sense. Kind of a stream of consciousness from me. |

Well it wasnt my point really. I was building off #1fans opinion.
He stated that draw power should be subjective to what if variants. Which should extend to others aspects as well. He made an argument a few rounds back that he would look at these more in a if wrestler A was in another other postition in any other era would he still have sucess. It was more of a devils advocate post than my opinion. And i should say its a perfectly valid method. Im more practical personally. |
