Computer DVD-RWs

OK... how do these things work?

For example, if I have a bunch of Seinfeld episodes downloaded to my comp in AVI format or whatever, could I burn them onto a DVD and watch them in a DVD player?

And how much do they go for these days anyway

hhhhhmm is really depends on the dvd player you got. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

go to that link and type in your dvd player: The company that made your dvd player and the model number. I don't personally have a dvd player but to my knowledge if you do burn an avi file on a dvd-rw it should play it on. Plus even if you burn a .avi file on a dvd-rw and it doesn't work it doesn't really matter cause the dvd is a re-writeable dvd, so as a result you can record on it and erase it as many times as you want. Mind you if it doesn't work i would convert the avi files you have to vcd and then burn.

AVI will definatly have to converted to a dvd compliant format.
www.dvdrhelp.com will go through all you need to do to get an avi into a dvd playable file.

you have to burn em like a cd

like theres 80 mins on a cd

theres 120 mins on a dvd

so youd only get like 4 episodes on it

Episodes are only 30 minutes because of commercials. He could probably fit at least 1 or 2 more.

As for the prices, if you want to look for some try newegg.com or pricegrabber.com and you can probably find some good deals.

So your saying that a cd (around 700mb) is 80 min and a dvdr (around 4gig) is 120 mins?
That dont sound right to me.

Fine, but I have a ripped copy of "the ring" (1 hour 52 mins long 1.07 gig ) "spongbob squarepants dvd (1 hour 54 mins long 1.11 gig ) "queen live in concert (1 hour 36 mins long 948 mb) "the lion king" (1 hour 28 mins long 886mb)

so thats 4.014 gig of video (these are vcd compliant mpeg ripped from dvd) total time : 410 mins, around 7 hours of video that will fit nicely onto one DVDR disk.

from wwwdvdrhelp.com

A recordable DVDR/W stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, If you choose to lower the video quality it is possible to store several hours video on a recordable DVDR/W

yeah i think it's like when you burn a vcd, you could go over 700mb but not over 80 minutes. i dunno if it's different for dvd though.

Eddie 3:16 does not have that much rep yet (10+)
Download a program TMPGEnc, using this program you can convert avi and divx files into Mpeg2 so there ready to burn on to DVD. This program also lets you compress the video, so instead of only being able to fit 2 hours on a DVD, you can fit about 8 hours.

As for making DVD's, download a program called DVD-lab, it's one of the best and easiest DVD creators I'll found.

Hope that helped
