Tough call here. Both bands have had hits, misses, and bad covers. I suppose it depends on what era of Metallica. Eh, catch me on a different day and I probably would have voted for GNR, both are sweet.
But really Cliff Burton > everyone in those bands |

Haha, I said this before the votes really got going anyway, and i stand by it. I could link you to a lot of live performances from GnR on youtube which would show you why i like them, but i dunno if you're bothered to check them out?

I'm not gonna get involved in your little arguement here, but I'll straight up say I prefer Guns N Roses, although I still like Metallica, just not as much. Just whatever I'm in the mood for really.

^ Yeah guess you could say it depends on the mood for me aswell, i can get into Metallica but only in a certain mood. Anyway, found a link to an old peformance of knockin on heavens door..many more performances to check out so i wont bother with anymore this was 1988.

In other words, saying "Only Metallica could have pulled it off" is so intrinsically fucking stupid, it defies all reason or logic. |

Out of curiousity, how many people have actually listened to the full Use Your Illusion 1+2 albums? Because they are fucking amazing.

GNR was supposed to play in Vancouver a few years back (Axl no showed thus a riot broke out) but I didn't get tickets as I didn't want to go alone. Couldn't find a single person interested in the concert. All the same people I asked went to the Metallica concert (about 50/50 on close friends to just aquantences). Obviously not a scientific poll, but getting laughed at when asking if they wanted to go to GNR was kind of interesting.

That's because the new GnR is pretty shite. The old GnR would never be laughed at. But they're is still popular with people I know.

Also, a band can hardly be called the greatest band ever if only some of their music was good.

I'm not saying that they're not popular, but my unscientific poll concluded that getting laughed at when talking about GNR is pretty common.

Being good live and being good on CD is a completely different thing. A lot of bands are complete SHIT live, but amazing on CD. Granted if I don't like a band after hearing a CD, odds are that I'm not going to like them live either, because I just plain don't like the music.
For instance, Guns N Roses.. I don't care for them. So my opinion probably wouldn't be changed if I saw them live, simply because I don't like the sound of the music, or his voice. |

I'd probably like GNR more if Axl didn't sing like his balls were in a vise.

OK close race. TL let's squash this. We love both our bands so lets just listen to them and go on.
