Good movie. It was heavy on story but they did a good job of not wasting too much time on exposition. Opening scene was amazing, some guy in my theatre yelled to dead silence "now that is how you start an X-Men movie" It might not have been the best way to express his opinion but he was right.

Charles transplanted his mind into his twin brother's comatose, mentally dead body. Even outside of the X3's stinger, it was also foreshadowed early in the movie during his lecture to his class.

Mmmmmmmm, nope. I also need something more than "foreshadowing".
Look, I'm a nerd. I'm not saying I'm not. But I've never really been the type of nerd to point out continuity errors and whatnot. Every time someone would say (use your best nerdy voice for this next part) "UMMMMM, in scene 26a at the 47 minute mark you CLEARLY see the pen she is using as red and then in the following scene, 26b, the pen turns BLUE!" Normally I would just roll my eyes at people like that. The last moment we saw of a very major character was him getting killed. Horrifically. Every molecular atom of his being exploded. I need a better explanation of why he's here now. And that's coming from me, a nerd. Who only kind of knows his shit about X-Men. I can't imagine what the casual movie-goer is thinking. |

I don't know what to tell you. He transferred his mind; it is what it is.
Just bear in mind that it's a stinger to the weakest written X-movie, and perhaps they didn't give any more thought than 'he's a psychic, he transferred his mind, and he looks the same because that's his twin'. There's nothing more, man. I'm sorry. |

Did they specifically say it was his twin? I remember the guy in the coma and him waking up, but no recollection of anything about a twin.

The idea was sourced from Charles having a twin sibling who was born absent a mind. It was handled way different in the books but that's the only possible explanation.

I think after a long time his lack of legs was tied to his powers, intrinsically. His powers just depended on his legs not working for him. That's just speculation on my part, though.
It would be hilarious if he was just destined to get messed up and paralyzed no matter what. |

Wasn't his twin just some young guy, HOWEVER, charles can make himself appear however he wants to whomever he wants. FFS he can make you eat your own foot and have everyone around you cheer you on if he wants.
Will have to see the movie I guess. As for his legs thet could have gotten messed up or it just could have been psychological in nature and I think they may have addressed it as such after the first time he was cloned. |

Let's not even get into how Juggernaut and Xavier's relation was deep throated in the movie series.

I'll be seeing this in a fancy manner, at the Chinese theater in Los Angeles. Can't wait. All the talk in this thread, and the talk in general, has me fucking pumped.

Charles relationship with Cain wasn't essential in the grand scheme of things. We're not missing a cool narrative dynamic there.

Says the guy who thinks paralysis linked to psychic mutation is destiny and hilarious
Let me guess- you loved the last Wolverine movie as well. I am still pissed that the theater I went to yesterday was sold out the entire day despite Fandango having said otherwise. I will try again this weekend. |

What are you trying to create here? I did not outright say Xavier's condition is fate. And no matter who says it, your job is to explain why them being brothers would have been important to X3's story. No matter what movie I like or what you wanna believe I said, you gotta do better than attacking me.

He was paralyzed from a bullet - damage to the spine.
The medicine beast gave him helped reconnect the nerve endings in his spine and in turn cost him the ability to use his powers. Its a side effect. its like saying one of those stupid medicines you see as a commercial has plot holes because while its supposed to help your allergies, it also gives you anal leakage. |

The "He" I was referring to was the twin brother who was comatose till Xavier died.

That is how he gets the sentinels to defend Kings Landing from Stannis Xavier and the Magnet Knight. I was really drunk when I watched this movie.

Just came from the movie. Quite enjoyed it. Not as good as First Class, but at least the second best of all the X-Movies. Maybe. Been a long time since I seen X2.
One thing that disappointed me was the film's score. First Class had an amazing score. Dunno. Small thing. Quicksilver was cool, but it felt more like it was an adaptation of Speed from the Young Avengers. Feel like if he stuck around, he could have saved the day single-handed. Pretty much can freeze time. Also really liked Blink, especially in the opening scene. Her powers looked really cool, especially in 3D. |

By the way, what the heck is up with that post credit scene in The Wolverine that had Xavier and Magento show up? What is the story/continuity about that?
Unless that is like the start of their alliance/war against the sentinels..... or something.... |

That set up this movie, it followed up directly from X3 (Where the Sentinels were teased in the beginning training session).

I just watched this movie. I absolutely LOVED it! It brought both worlds together, and told an awesome tale. Seeing all the faces together brought me back to when the first one came out. Just a whole whirlwind of emotions in that flick. Bravo!

Just got back. Really enjoyed it, preferred it to First Class personally. Probably about level with X2 for me. The main Quicksilver scene was great, good comic relief in an otherwise entirely serious film. Loved seeing everyone back again as well, James Marsden got a bit fat. I'm kinda "meh" on Mystique in general so wasn't all that interested in her being so central to it all but whatever. I quite liked that they kept wolverines action quite minimal, it helped make the film feel bigger than the character which a couple of the others suffer from.

I'm really glad to see all the praise this film has gotten. Along with Captain America and Spider-Man 2 (which still did reasonably well), this has been a fantastic year for Marvel. Just hoping Guardians of the Galaxy does as well now.

Is Mystique as pivotal to the whole thing in the comics as she was in this, or was she just pushed to the forefront of it all due to Jennifer Lawrence's popularity?

In the cartoon she disguised herself as Gambit to kill the senator, right? But it was more of a "twist" rather than her openly being the villain from the get go.

What? What doesn't matter? That I was wondering if they made a characters role more prominent due to the actors popularity? I guess that settles my curiosity then.

I get that it's a completely new take on the whole story and all that, but I'd guess if it was a lesser known actress portraying Mystique then she wouldn't have been so pivotal to the movie. All I'm asking is how important was the character in the original story.

Never read the comic story, but according to wiki Mystique does have a large role. Instead of trying to kill Trask, she is trying to kill Senator Kelly.
