Your Honest Thoughts #1 - If you were HHH, would you have done things differently with your career?
I've been listening to a few shoot interviews lately, and HHH is the one name that seems to keep coming up. Depending on the wrestler, and their likeliness of returning to WWE, their opinions do vary slightly. So I'm asking a multi-part question today to get the honest opinions of those here, at TPWW!
Do you believe that: A. HHH's success and marriage to Stephanie McMahon is coincidental, and that being married into the McMahon family had no bearing on what he has achieved as a wrestler. B. HHH's success is ONLY because of his marriage to Stephanie McMahon, and he would not have amounted to anything without having a relationship with her. And the question from the thread title: If you were HHH, would you have done things differently, or would you have taken advantage of the situation you have been put in? I realise that the last question implies that it was his marriage that helped him pave the way to his own success, but I think that the majority of you will have that opinion. Personally, I would have done the same as HHH. It's well documented that professional wrestling is a dog eat dog world, and many others have done whatever they can to push themselves over the years, whether it's being part of the booking committee, or general politicking backstage among other things. While I admit I did get a bit sick of his mid 2000's run where he was the absolute focal point, I think he is given a bit too much of a hard knock at times. And I believe that when he does take over the reigns of WWE, it will create another boom period, his management of NXT shows me he has the right business mind to make it happen. Quote:

It's a business. Why the hell would he do anything different.

Pretty much A.
I lack the information on when their relationship started to judge this fully. I know they got married after Steph lost around the time of the I Quit match. He was already a 4 time champion by 2000. I think it helped him stay on top for as long as he did. He's an easy target for joking because of what he did. I don't he ever saw it like "I'm dating the Boss's daughter things are going to go great for me" I'm sure he saw it as "I'm dating Vince McMahon's Daughter if I fuck this up he's gonna kill me." I would have done it in the same fashion except I probably would have ended my previous relationship before starting things. That's the only thing Triple H did wrong. He cheated on Chyna behind her back dating Stephanie. |

He would have achieved the same success as it is hard to hold down talent and drive, although I am sure marrying Stephanie did not hurt.....

I hate on him, but in the end of the day you want to make as much money for yourself as possible so you don't end up like Ricky Morton wrestling in rec centres 5 nights a week at age 60 to make ends meet.
People have this allusion that wrestlers aren't in it for the money and it's complete bullshit. |

No problem with what he did at all but it was boring as hell 10 years ago when it was the Triple A show and everyone else were essentially sidekicks.

C. I think its a mix of both. He's got talent. He's no scrub by any means. But he, by himself, would not have made it to the spot he's at now, "legendwise" without the family positioning.
If I could do anything differently, I would have laid down for more guys and used it as an opportunity to make more stars. |

Just a random thought on Triple H's career: I think he missed a golden opportunity to turn heel in 2011. He had the chance to make Punk/Triple H the Austin/McMahon of that era, and entrench himself in people's minds as a top heel again. Two years later and he was doing the heel shtick with Daniel Bryan anyway.

I would have spent less time wrestling and more time banging Steph while she was young and hot(ter).
