Spyware/adware program with scheduler or live scanning?
Yo,
So I've been fixing a woman's computers and trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. I normally use Ad Aware for Spyware programming, but I'm pretty sure she won't actually, you know, scan regularly. She doesn't run her antivirus and I had to set it up to scan because nobody ever did. I know the paid version will do realtime protection, but as I'm trying to save her money I'm looking for a good free program where I can "set it and forget it." Any help would be much appreciated. There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs. --John Rogers |

AVG, Avira and Avast have realtime protection.
Only AVG and Avira have schedulers, I believe. |

^ Yep. I use AVG. Is simple to schedule and appears to work well.

Is AVG light on system resources? That was my other concern, which I forgot to mention. I mean, I saw the recommended specs on the page, but is it a resource hog?

Nowhere near as resource-hungry as aps like Spybot Doctor etc.
In fact, out of all the ones I have used (and believe me since my Malware Defender troubles earlier this year I've used a few) AVG is probably the least hungry. |

I have AVAST! for Virus
Spybot Search and Destroy & Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for Malware and Spyware. I also would NEVER install a system without Crap Cleaner (www.ccleaner.com). We all have our likes etc, those 4 above I live by and have always done me proud. Hope that helps mate. All are free, but I run them nightly when brushing my teeth before I turn PC off. CCleaner then Spybot. Virus checker only if I feel something is wrong as it picks up things instantly if it finds an infection. Malware I scan every file I download with before opening. |
